Summary

A compact mini PC for productivity, light gaming and multi-monitor setups, built around AMD’s Zen 4 Ryzen 7 H 255 APU. Check the RAM before you buy: the 16GB LPDDR5 is soldered to the motherboard and cannot be upgraded.

Strengths

  • Zen 4 8-core CPU and Radeon 780M iGPU handle productivity, light gaming and multi-monitor work.
  • USB4 at 40Gbps plus triple-display output over HDMI 2.0, DP 2.0 and USB4 Type-C.
  • Dual M.2 2280 NVMe slots behind a magnetic cover — tool-free SSD access.
  • WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2 and 2.5GbE in a 135 × 162.7 × 71.8 mm chassis.
  • Three-mode fan control (silent, balance, performance).

Weaknesses

  • The 16GB LPDDR5 RAM is soldered and cannot be upgraded or replaced.
  • Single 2.5GbE LAN port; other ACEMAGIC models such as the F5A and AM18 have dual.
  • The H 255 has no NPU; the 8945HS variant adds one with up to 16 TOPS.
  • No credible instrumented test of the exact S3A H 255 model exists.
  • One S3A owner (5835U variant) reports the Performance Mode button “didn’t seem to function reliably”.
  • One Trustpilot review reports a defective, non-working S3A unit (5700U variant).

Performance, power and noise

The H 255 is AMD’s Zen 4 H-series APU: 8 cores, 16 threads, 16MB of L3 cache, a 3.8 GHz base clock and a 4.9 GHz boost, with a Radeon 780M iGPU (12 graphics cores at 2600 MHz) handling graphics. Nobody has published an instrumented test of the exact S3A H 255, so the closest evidence comes from reviews of the ACEMAGIC W1, which shares the CPU platform in a different chassis (128.2 × 128.2 × 41 mm). Michael’s Tinkerings measured Cinebench 2024 multi-core 943, Geekbench 6 multi-core 12943, 11W at idle and 84W under load, with noise between 38 and 44 dB. Techxreviews measured Cinebench R23 multi-core 16168, CPU temperatures of 68–78°C under load, SSD temperatures around 35°C and noise near 30 dB, and recorded a 3DMark Time Spy score near 20000 from an eGPU over USB4. Treat those numbers as platform context, not measurements of this chassis — the taller S3A may cool and throttle differently. In r/MiniPCs, the 780M iGPU is described as “somewhat limited” and the dynamic RAM adjustment as “seems not optimal” — W1-specific, but the platform is shared.

RAM, storage and upgrades

The S3A H 255 ships with 16GB of LPDDR5 6400 MT/s soldered to the motherboard (8GB × 2, dual-channel). It cannot be upgraded or replaced, and the “DDR5” wording in some listings is misleading — DDR5 SO-DIMM would be user-replaceable, soldered LPDDR5 is not. Storage is the upgrade story: two M.2 2280 NVMe slots (PCIe 3.0/4.0, no SATA) sit behind a magnetic cover, so adding or swapping a drive takes seconds with no tools. ACEMAGIC rates the pair for up to 4TB total.

Ports, display and network

Triple-display output over HDMI 2.0 (4K@60Hz), USB4 Type-C (8K@60Hz, DP 1.4) and DP 2.0 (8K@60Hz). The port count is practical: one USB4 Type-C at 40Gbps with PD output, two front USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A at 10Gbps, four rear USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A at 5Gbps, one 2.5GbE RJ45 and a 3.5mm audio jack. The single LAN port is the compromise — other ACEMAGIC models such as the F5A and AM18 have dual 2.5GbE, the S3A does not. WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 cover wireless.

Is it worth it?

ACEMAGIC’s official US store lists the H 255/16GB/512GB configuration at $499 (sale from $799); a collections page shows $349 (sale from $599). Under $350 the package is strong: Zen 4 CPU, Radeon 780M, USB4, triple-display and dual NVMe in a compact chassis, with soldered RAM an acceptable tradeoff. From $351 to $450 it stays fair. From $451 to $550 the soldered RAM and single LAN get harder to justify. Above $550, look elsewhere. An r/MiniPCs thread discusses the S3A (5835U variant) at about €230. Warranty is two years for products purchased after August 1, 2025 and three years before that date; the EU page adds lifetime technical support. Brand caution: ACEMAGIC shipped mini PCs with pre-installed malware in 2024, subsequently addressed — budget time for a clean OS install and driver updates.

Which model this is

This page covers the ACEMAGIC S3A with Ryzen 7 H 255, 16GB LPDDR5 and 512GB SSD — the same chassis ACEMAGIC has sold as the AMR5. The Amazon listing is ASIN B0FFSRPK32. It is not the ACEMAGIC W1 (128.2 × 128.2 × 41 mm) or the F5A (130 × 132 × 62 mm), which are different chassis; the W1 reviews cited here are platform context only. ACEMAGIC’s pages specify WiFi 6E while Best Buy’s listing says WiFi 6 — confirm the radio if it matters. Newegg and Best Buy also carry the S3A.
