Summary

The Amazfit Bip 5 Unity is a budget smartwatch with a big TFT LCD, a stainless steel frame and a rated 11-day battery, aimed at first-time and casual buyers. Check one thing before you buy: unlike the standard Bip 5 it has no built-in GPS, microphone or speaker, so it leans on your phone for both location and calls.

Strengths

  • Stainless steel frame and a large 320x380 TFT LCD at a low price.
  • Rated up to 11 days of battery, and 26 days in saver mode.
  • Zepp OS 3.0 with more than 120 sport modes and automatic detection for 6 activities.
  • BioTracker 3 sensor tracks heart rate, SpO2, stress and sleep.
  • IP68 for splashes and snow, with a magnetic charging base in the box.
  • Owners call it a good first smartwatch with lots of functions and a big screen.

Weaknesses

  • No built-in GPS, so outdoor distance depends on your phone.
  • No microphone or speaker, so you cannot take calls on the watch itself.
  • Owners report about 6 days of real-world battery with everything enabled, well short of the 11-day rating.
  • The TFT LCD is a step down from the transflective screens on older Bip models.
  • No independent instrumented test of the Unity exists; reviews of the standard Bip 5 only point the way.
  • Advanced health metrics sit behind the Zepp Aura subscription.

Battery life and charging

Amazfit rates the Bip 5 Unity at up to 11 days in typical use, 5 days with heavy use and 26 days in battery saver mode. An owner in r/amazfit reports about 6 days with everything running, so treat 11 days as the best case. The charger is a magnetic base and Amazfit does not document the charge time; the standard Bip 5 takes about 2 hours.

GPS, calling and the missing hardware

Unlike the standard Bip 5, the Unity has no built-in GPS, so outdoor runs are tracked through your phone’s location. It also has no microphone or speaker, and Bluetooth calling is handled by the paired phone. Amazon Alexa works through the phone link rather than on the watch. Buyers who expect Bip 5-level connectivity are the ones most likely to be disappointed.

Health and sports tracking

The BioTracker 3 PPG sensor covers heart rate, SpO2, stress and sleep, and the watch tracks more than 120 sports modes, though automatic detection only covers 6 of them: treadmill, outdoor running, elliptical, indoor walking, rowing machine and walking. For the standard Bip 5, TechGearLab measured heart rate within about 3 percent of a control and GPS within about 10 percent, and scored it 54 out of 100. Those numbers are directional, since the Unity lacks GPS entirely.

Water resistance and care

The Unity carries an IP68 rating good for splashes and snow, and Amazfit rates it to 1.5 m of water. Amazfit warns against swimming, hot showers and sauna, and says steam can degrade the seal over time.

Subscriptions

Zepp OS 3.0 gates some advanced metrics behind Zepp Aura, which Tom’s Guide puts at $70 a year for the standard Bip 5. Subscription pricing for the Unity itself is not documented.

Is it worth it?

Amazfit launched the Bip 5 Unity at $69.99 in the US in May 2024, about $20 less than the standard Bip 5 at roughly $90 (TechGearLab). The value rests on the low price, the large LCD and the 11-day battery, not on GPS or calling. If you need GPS, the standard Bip 5 is worth the small premium; if the price climbs much above that, the case weakens.

Which model this is

Amazfit sells this as the Bip 5 Unity, model A2324, in Charcoal at 46 mm. It is a distinct model from the standard Bip 5: the Unity drops built-in GPS, microphone and speaker, and ships with Zepp OS 3.0 instead of Zepp OS 2.0. The US Amazon Charcoal listing is ASIN B0CZP6V3MN.
