Strengths

  • 21-day battery life is the headline; Consumer Reports measured 446 hours, about 18.6 days, of typical use.
  • Dual-band L1+L5 GPS across six satellite systems; Consumer Reports called it among the most accurate it has tested.
  • 10 ATM water resistance with 40m recreational scuba and 45m freediving certification.
  • Sapphire glass over a 1.5-inch AMOLED display running at 480 × 480 and 2,000 nits.
  • 32 GB storage, NFC payments, and offline maps with golf courses and ski resorts.
  • 170+ sport modes including HYROX and golf, with accurate heart rate in Consumer Reports’ lab test.

Weaknesses

  • Owners report software bugs: a UV Index that reads completely off, calendar events that never reach the watch, and the missing BioCharge feature.
  • One long-term owner reported the heart-rate monitor stopping after extended use; nobody has published a failure rate.
  • The magnetic charger ships without a cable, and Consumer Reports measured a 107-minute full charge.
  • TechRadar criticizes slow map loading, the thin third-party app ecosystem and the lack of an LTE option.
  • Amazfit provides only about two years of software updates, and the original Balance is already end of life.
  • There is no music streaming integration; only files you own can be synced.

Battery and charging

Amazfit rates the 658 mAh battery at 21 days of typical use, 10 days of heavy use, 33 hours in accurate GPS mode and 67 hours in power-saving GPS mode. Consumer Reports measured 446 hours, about 18.6 days, under typical daily usage. Wareable saw roughly 10% drain a day under heavier use and about 6% an hour of outdoor running; raise-to-wake costs little, an always-on display costs more. Wareable clocked about 1 hour from 0%; Consumer Reports measured 107 minutes. The magnetic charging head ships without a cable, so you provide your own USB cable.

GPS and training accuracy

Dual-band L1+L5 GNSS covers six satellite systems through a circularly polarized antenna. Consumer Reports rated fitness tracking “excellent”, with “very good, accurate measurements for BPM, Pulse Oximeter, and Heart Rate”, and put the GPS among its most accurate measuring devices. Wareable’s BioTracker 6.0 readings compared well against a Garmin HRM-600 chest strap, though the watch occasionally underreported distance slightly next to a Garmin Forerunner 970. Owners in r/amazfit praise the GPS and heart-rate accuracy; one reports about a week of battery with every sensor on and a 20KM GPS session, and another needed about 3 minutes to reacquire GPS after a 300 km trip with GPS off.

Software, maps and updates

The watch launched on Zepp OS 5; Amazfit’s own pages now describe Zepp OS 6 features. Zepp Flow takes natural-speech voice commands rather than rigid phrases. Offline maps include golf courses and ski resorts, with route planning that works without a connection. Owners report calendar events that show in the Zepp app but never reach the watch, a UV Index one owner calls completely off, and the missing BioCharge feature. There is no way to turn down voice prompt volume during workouts, and one owner reports the watch simply stopping when a strength-training timer ends instead of prompting a cooldown. Amazfit provides about two years of software updates, and the original Balance is already end of life. One owner’s verdict: “Balance 2 is to 90% a Balance 1 and very expensive.”

Is it worth it?

TechRadar lists the Balance 2 at $299.99 in the US. At that price it undercuts premium offerings from Garmin, Apple and Samsung while covering the core fitness features, competing with the Samsung Galaxy Watch8, Huawei Watch GT 5, Garmin Venu 4 and Coros Pace 4. Below $250 on sale it is strong value, fair from $250 to $300, weak from $300 to $350 and poor above $350. No subscription is required for core features, so running costs stop at accessories: Tom’s Guide lists the Helio Strap at $99 and a watch-plus-strap bundle at $379. Amazfit says the watch is FSA/HSA eligible, and the Amazfit store lists a 2-year warranty.
