Summary

A square-face fitness smartwatch with a stainless steel bezel, sapphire glass and a bright 1.32-inch AMOLED display. Check the health-tracking limitations before you buy: sleep tracking assumes in-bed means sleeping, and strength-training auto-recognition misses common exercises.

Strengths

  • The sapphire glass and stainless steel bezel give it a classic-watch look at a low price.
  • The 1.32-inch AMOLED is bright (2,000 nits peak) and readable in direct sunlight.
  • Battery life stretches to about five days with all monitoring on, and longer with lighter use.
  • Five satellite positioning systems and 164 workout modes cover most sports.
  • The Zepp Flow AI assistant is more capable than expected, though it needs a phone connection.
  • The vibration motor is powerful.

Weaknesses

  • Sleep tracking assumes in-bed means sleeping; it is less sensitive than the Oura Ring.
  • Strength-training auto-recognition fails for pull-ups, bodyweight squats and push-ups.
  • GPS lock is slow, and notifications can be delayed or missed.
  • The proprietary charger is small, easy to lose, and the magnets do not hold the watch firmly.
  • Voice commands require more enunciation than other smartwatches.
  • The Zepp app persistently upsells Zepp Aura Premium and Wild.AI subscriptions.

Battery and daily use

The claimed 10-day battery assumes typical use. Both WIRED and Digital Trends measured about five days with all 24/7 health monitoring enabled. A battery-saver mode extends to 19 days, and continuous GPS use drains the battery in about 21 hours. Charging takes about two hours on the magnetic base.

Health tracking and the Zepp app

The BioTracker 6.0 PPG sensor handles heart rate and sleep, but sleep tracking is passive — it assumes that if you are in bed, you are sleeping. Strength-training auto-recognition covers 25 movements but misses common bodyweight exercises like pull-ups, squats and push-ups. The Zepp app provides readiness scores and sleep insights without a subscription, though Zepp Aura Premium ($50 a year) and Wild.AI ($6 a month) are heavily advertised.

GPS, notifications and connectivity

Five satellite systems sound thorough, but GPS lock takes a while to acquire. Notifications can be delayed, and the watch does not always connect to the phone when nearby. Many features — including Zepp Flow AI and weather — require a Bluetooth connection to the phone to function.

Is it worth it?

Amazfit listed the Premium at $130 at launch in February 2025 (WIRED, Digital Trends). At that price it offers strong value if you want a classic-watch design with modern fitness tracking: sapphire glass, a stainless steel bezel, a bright AMOLED display, 5 ATM water resistance and 164 workout modes. Above $130, competitors with more reliable GPS, better health tracking and stronger independent test data become harder to ignore.

Which model this is

This page covers the Amazfit Active 2 Premium, model A2440, with a square face, black leather strap and sapphire glass. The Amazon listing is ASIN B0F94KYCQX. The standard Active 2 has a silicone strap and 2.5D tempered glass instead. Do not confuse it with the round-face Amazfit Active or other Amazfit models.
