Summary
A rugged outdoor GPS smartwatch with a 3000-nit sapphire AMOLED, Grade 5 titanium bezel and a manufacturer-rated 17-day battery, built for hikers and runners who want Fenix-class hardware without the Fenix price. Check the navigation software before you buy: multiple reviewers found route guidance unreliable as of early 2026.
Strengths
- Sapphire glass and Grade 5 titanium are materials you normally find on much more expensive outdoor watches.
- The 3000-nit AMOLED earns repeated praise for outdoor visibility.
- Battery life is the most consistently praised owner attribute, with multi-week real-world endurance reported.
- Dual-band GPS is praised for accuracy, including in high-rise urban canyons.
- It undercuts the Garmin Fenix 8 and Enduro 3 on price while matching core outdoor features.
Weaknesses
- Route guidance is the weak point: WIRED saw navigation fail about 90% of attempts, and a December 2025 firmware update left full auto-rerouting untested.
- There is no Wear OS or Google Play app support, the most common structural complaint.
- Zepp Pay does not work in the United States, confirmed by both WIRED and Wareable.
- Heart-rate accuracy is activity- and fit-dependent, and Zepp Flow responses can lag up to 8 seconds.
- The 44 mm case is still a large watch, and the USB-C charging cable is not in the box.
- The Zepp app and watch software are described as confusing to customize, with no clear timelines for fixes.

Battery life and charging
Amazfit rates the 44 mm at up to 17 days of typical use, 8 days of heavy use, 26 hours with accurate GPS on, and 14 days in low-temperature mode with GPS off. Consumer Reports ran the watch through its smartwatch lab protocol and measured 494 hours, about 20.6 days, of typical use, with a 124-minute full charge; the display passed a scratch test and the case passed a dunk test. Wareable’s real-world test, on the larger 48 mm, saw 18 days per charge with about 14 hours of accurate GPS, a 5-hour hike using 17% and a 30-minute run about 2%. On r/amazfit, battery life is the most consistently praised attribute, with owners reporting multi-week endurance.
Navigation and software
Navigation is the most consequential caveat. WIRED’s 3/10 review, “An Outdoor Watch That Doesn’t Work,” reported route navigation failing about 90% of attempts and once advised running on Interstate 405; a Zepp Coach run froze with a “Training Completed” trophy one mile in, and downloading maps took five minutes for one-third of Los Angeles. Wareable found auto-rerouting undelivered — only route-deviation alerts worked — and a December 2025 firmware update (v4.1.6.7) refined deviation handling, though full re-routing remained untested as of the February 2026 review. Android Police called the map download process messy and time-consuming.
Sensors, software and Zepp OS
The BioTracker 6.0 PPG sensor (5PD + 2LED) tracks heart rate, SpO2 and skin temperature, alongside a barometric altimeter, geomagnetic sensor, gyroscope, accelerometer and ambient light sensor. Heart-rate accuracy is activity- and fit-dependent: one owner reported accuracy close to a Polar H10 chest strap during weightlifting when the watch was worn higher and tighter, while a 6-month review of the non-Pro T-Rex 3 reported consistently inaccurate readings. Wareable called heart rate “pretty good” against the Coros Nomad, Coros Pace 3 and Garmin Fenix 8, and Consumer Reports rated fitness tracking excellent for heart-rate measurement, with GPS among the most accurate.
Zepp OS 5 means no Google Play or Wear OS apps, the most common structural complaint among reviewers. The speaker and microphone support Bluetooth calling, but TechAdvisor notes feature support — contactless payments, Zepp Flow AI — varies by the paired phone, and WIRED reported Zepp Flow responses lagging up to 8 seconds or not arriving. Wareable found the workout start and end voice announcements cannot be turned off, unlike on the T-Rex 3. The two-color LED flashlight, specified at 200 lux with Boost and SOS modes, earned praise from both WIRED and Wareable. Isolated owner complaints on Amazfit’s own collection pages include a stock strap that barely fit, MP3 downloads that repeatedly failed, and a Zepp Flow widget stuck in Spanish while the rest of the watch was in English. The Aura Wellness Advisor add-on, which unlocks in-depth sleep reports, assessment and relaxation tools, requires a monthly or annual subscription.
Is it worth it?
Amazfit launched the T-Rex 3 Pro at $399.99 in September 2025, the same price for both case sizes; TechAdvisor’s review carried a $379 price, and REI lists the watch at $400.00. At $350 or less it is a strong buy for outdoor use — sapphire, Grade 5 titanium, the 3000-nit display and dual-band GPS undercut the Fenix class on price. At the launch price the value is fair, with the buyer paying for rugged hardware rather than a polished smart platform; above $400 the value is weak. Wareable’s launch coverage put the Garmin Fenix 8 from $999 and the Enduro 3 at $899.99, with Suunto’s Vertical 2 about $300 more and Coros’ Nomad cheaper but lacking the AMOLED display, flashlight and premium materials. Two costs to plan for: the USB-C cable is not in the box, and the Aura Wellness Advisor sleep features need a paid subscription. If offline routing matters to you, wait for proof the navigation software works — that is the deciding factor at any price.
Which model this is
This page covers the Amazfit T-Rex 3 Pro with the 44 mm case in Tactical Black, announced in September 2025 as the successor to the T-Rex 3. Amazfit sells two case sizes — 48 mm with a 1.5 in display and 44 mm with a 1.32 in display — and the 44 mm comes in Tactical Black, Black Gold and Arctic Gold. Do not confuse it with the non-Pro T-Rex 3, which uses Gorilla Glass, a 2000-nit display and has no speaker, or with the older T-Rex 2 and T-Rex Ultra lines. The 44 mm takes a 20 mm quick-release strap, not the 22 mm strap of the 48 mm. The US listing is ASIN B0G2D39481.
