Summary

A compact external vacuum sealer for sous vide and freezer storage, with a 4 L/min pump and a single 12-inch seal bar. Check the suction and the lid before you buy: owners report less pull than older sealers and a lid that needs a firm push to close.

Strengths

  • The compact 16.73-inch body stores easily in a drawer.
  • Seals in about 21 seconds, the fastest of the models tested.
  • Among the quietest models tested.
  • One-button operation with a pulse mode for wet contents.
  • The 2-year warranty exceeds the 1-year industry standard.
  • 10 starter bags are included.

Weaknesses

  • Modest suction: measured 14.77 inHg, against 25.1 inHg for the Anova Pro and Nesco VS-12.
  • Single seal only; no double-seal mode.
  • The lid needs more force to close than competing sealers.
  • No bag cutter, bag storage slot, accessory port, or cancel button.
  • One owner reported the foam seal separating from the unit after about 11 months.
  • Repairs stop at consumables: gaskets, bags and rolls.

Vacuum power and sealing

Wirecutter measured vacuum strength at 14.77 inHg and a seal time of about 21 seconds, the fastest of the models it tested, and named the Anova its budget pick in September 2026. CNET called it the quickest and easiest to set up and seal with among the models it tested in January 2026. Wirecutter still treats 13–25 inHg as enough sealing pressure, so the lower reading is a preference for heavy freezer use, not a defect. Both outfits note the same gaps: no double seal, no bag cutter, no bag storage and no accessory port.

Owner reports and durability

Owner reviews on the Anova product page praise the compact size, easy storage and one-button operation, and several call the pulse option useful for wet food. The recurring complaints are lighter suction than expected or than a previous sealer, the single-seal design, and long-term durability; one owner reported the foam seal separating after about 11 months. That is a single report, not a failure rate. One reviewer noted a humming sound when the unit is powered on, another reported trouble sealing half-sized bags, and one owner went back to a cheaper sealer. Wirecutter has run its unit since 2019 and reports seals intact after more than 2 years in the freezer, and its care notes say to leave the lid unlocked between uses, wait up to a minute between sealings to avoid overheating, and use only channeled vacuum bags.

Bags and running costs

The sealer takes Anova pre-cut bags and 8 in / 11 in rolls, all sold separately. Anova lists 11 in × 19.6 ft rolls at $23.00, down from $27.00, and offers a bag-and-roll bundle at 10% off. Third-party channeled bags, such as FoodSaver, also fit. The only parts worth replacing over time are the bags, rolls and seal gasket. Reviews on Anova’s bags page complain about wrong items shipped, difficult returns and long refund delays.

Is it worth it?

Anova listed the sealer at $74.00 on 2026-10-10, down from its $89.00 regular price; Best Buy showed $90 in January 2026 and Walmart $74 in September 2026, per CNET and Wirecutter. At $74 it is a reasonable compact pick for a sous vide household already stocked with Anova bags; at $89–$90 it faces stronger competition from FoodSaver and Nesco models with double-seal modes and more suction. The single seal and modest pull limit confidence for heavy freezer work.

Which model this is

This page covers the Anova Precision Vacuum Sealer, model ANVS01-US00, the compact external sealer, not the Precision Vacuum Sealer Pro or the Chamber Vacuum Sealer. It runs on US 120 V and takes Anova pre-cut bags and 8 in / 11 in rolls.
