Summary

A compact 2K indoor security camera sold as a two-pack, aimed at Aqara and HomeKit households that want local microSD recording without a monthly fee. Check your Wi-Fi and your patience first: owners report frequent disconnections, firmware that can brick cameras into a restart loop, and false person alerts.

Strengths

  • Owners report good picture quality and a compact form factor for the price.
  • Aqara, Apple Home and HomeKit Secure Video work reliably once the camera stays connected.
  • microSD recording up to 512GB and RTSP streams mean no subscription is strictly required.
  • The G100 is reported to see better in complete darkness than the pricier Aqara G5 Pro.
  • Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth fit modern home networks and phones.

Weaknesses

  • Owners report frequent Wi-Fi disconnections that need a full hardware reset and re-pairing.
  • Firmware v4.5.20_0006 left cameras stuck in restart loops that a factory reset would not clear.
  • The main RTSP stream can stop emitting valid keyframes, breaking recorders such as Frigate, Blue Iris and Dahua.
  • Night vision can flip between modes even in complete darkness.
  • Frequent false “person detected” alerts make the guard function unreliable.
  • The pairing QR code sits on the bottom of the mounting base, so re-pairing means taking the camera down.

Wi-Fi, firmware and reliability

Owners describe a camera that works well until it doesn’t. Multiple threads report frequent disconnections that require fetching the camera, holding reset for 15 seconds and setting it up from scratch; one owner says 9 out of 10 disconnections end that way. The pairing QR code is printed on the bottom of the mounting base, which adds a trip up the ladder for anyone with the camera mounted high. Other owners report repeated offline events that may track 2.4GHz signal instability.

Firmware is the sharper worry. Version v4.5.20_0006 left cameras in a restart loop with a flashing yellow light, never finishing boot; a factory reset does not fix it, and Aqara’s recovery files did not always work. Rollouts are staggered, so two cameras in the same home can sit on different firmware versions. Aqara support is reachable through the forum, which auto-creates tickets, by email at support@aqara.com, and in the Aqara Home app.

RTSP and NVR use

The G100 can stream over RTSP, which Aqara does not push on the product page. It exposes three channels: ch1 is the main stream near 1080p, ch2 is 720p, and ch3 is 360p. On some units the ch1 stream stops emitting valid keyframes and parameter sets, which makes it unusable in NVR software such as Frigate, Blue Iris and Dahua, even though HomeKit Secure Video and the Aqara app keep working. The fault is per-unit and per-channel, and neither a factory reset nor a reboot clears it. The practical workaround is to record the 720p ch2 stream instead.

Night vision and detection

Owners report the camera switching between night vision and normal mode through the night, even in complete darkness; firmware 4.3.7_0010 was said to partially fix it. False “person detected” alerts are a second recurring complaint that makes the guard feature hard to trust, and firmware updates improved the rate without ending it. Against that, the G100 is reported to see better in complete darkness than the G5 Pro. No independent lab has measured any of this: there is no instrumented review from RTINGS, Wirecutter, Tom’s Guide, CNET or PCMag for this exact model, so treat the reports as patterns rather than defect rates.

Matter and smart home

Matter support was not there at launch. Aqara ran a Matter camera testing program for the G100 in 2026 that required a Hub M3 and a SmartThings Hub, and as of March 2026 it was still in beta. If Matter matters to you, wait for the shipping version rather than trusting the badge.

Which model this is

This page covers the Aqara Camera G100 two-pack, Aqara’s model CH-C08E, with the single Camera G100 Select listed as CH-C08D; the difference between the two variants is not spelled out on the US product page. The US listing for the two-pack is ASIN B0GCVCC83K. Aqara markets the G100 as an indoor camera with a -10°C lower limit, though at least one owner runs it outdoors, so match the model before you buy.
