Summary
Premium true-wireless workout earbuds with over-ear hooks, active noise cancellation, an Apple H2 chip and optical heart-rate sensing, released in February 2025. Check three things before buying: whether the hooks and five tip sizes actually fit, whether you can live with reports of one earbud failing to charge, and whether you need reliable call quality, which independent tests disagree on.
Strengths
- RTINGS reports an unusually stable workout fit that resists loosening during activity.
- Tom’s Guide ran 150 miles in them and praised retention.
- RTINGS measured excellent ANC and isolation for gyms and travel.
- Beats rates 8-10 hours per charge and 36-45 hours with the case, and TechGearLab measured 12h 44m.
- Physical click buttons and separate volume rockers are easier with sweaty hands than touch controls.
- Both iOS and Android get app support; Android can use the Beats app for settings and heart rate.
Weaknesses
- Owners report one earbud failing to charge in its cradle, sometimes after replacements.
- Some owners report random disconnects, unintentional pauses or poor Find My tracking.
- Independent call tests disagree, with RTINGS and TechGearLab rating the microphones poorly.
- Heart-rate readings were inconsistent against a chest strap in Tom’s Guide testing.
- The earhooks and case are bulky and can press on ears or clash with glasses and hats.
- There is no manual EQ to correct the sound shift between ANC on and off.

Which model this is
This page covers the Powerbeats Pro 2 released in February 2025, not the original 2019 Powerbeats Pro and not the Powerbeats Fit. It shipped at a $249.99 list price in Jet Black, Quick Sand, Hyper Purple, Electric Orange and Black & Volt; the US Jet Black SKU is MX723LL/A. It uses an Apple H2 processor and works with both iOS and Android through the Beats app.
Fit and controls
The nickel-titanium earhooks and five silicone tip sizes (XS, S, M, L, XL) are the core of the design. RTINGS found the fit unusually stable during exercise, and Tom’s Guide ran 150 miles in one pair and praised retention. Fit is personal, though: TechGearLab’s test group sometimes wanted the earbuds out after about an hour, and owners say the hooks interfere with some glasses and hats. Controls are a click button plus separate volume rockers on each bud, which are easier to use with sweaty hands than touch surfaces.
Battery, charging and running costs
Beats rates up to 10 hours per bud and 45 hours with the case without ANC, or 8 hours per bud and 36 hours total with ANC or transparency; a 5-minute Fast Fuel charge gives up to 1.5 hours. TechGearLab measured 12h 44m in its own playback test, so runtime depends on mode, loudness and firmware. The case charges over USB-C or a Qi pad, and neither a cable nor an adapter is in the box. There is no required subscription. Included silicone tips are reusable and need replacing only if damaged. Optional Comply TW-400-C foam tips are $24.99 for three pairs at Comply US, with the maker recommending a fresh pair about every 2-3 months; one pack is said to last most users around nine months, which works out to about $33.32-$49.98 a year in proportional cost. Exact yearly electricity dollars were not verified.
Calls, heart rate and sound
Independent reviewers disagree on calls: RTINGS lists microphone performance as disappointing and TechGearLab measured very poor speech intelligibility, while SoundGuys found much better results on an iPhone, so test with your own phone and return if it fails. The optical heart-rate sensor feeds compatible workouts and apps, including Apple Fitness, but Tom’s Guide’s runner saw dropouts and cadence lock against a chest strap, and TechGearLab found readings sensitive to seal and motion; do not treat the numbers as clinically accurate. When the buds connect directly to third-party gym equipment to transmit heart rate, an iPhone disconnects as an audio source, per Apple’s documentation. SoundGuys measured a substantial sound-balance difference with ANC on versus off, and its modeled sound rating moved from 4.6 to 3.8, with no manual EQ to compensate.
Is it worth it?
October 2026 US listings put the Powerbeats Pro 2 at $179.99 at Target (down from $249.99) and $179.99 in a Best Buy feed for one color, while another Best Buy listing and Nordstrom showed around $249.99. Beats’ own page lists $249.99 as the original list price and a 14-day return window. At $149 or less new, with hooks that fit and sound returns, it is a strong buy; $150-$180 is reasonable if earhooks, ANC and long battery life all matter; $200-$250 is hard to justify given the charging-seat complaints and weaker call performance. If you are over $150, the JBL Endurance Peak 4 is $89.99 at Best Buy with ANC, earhooks and IP68 earbuds but no built-in heart-rate feature. The more compact Powerbeats Fit was $159.99 at Target (from $199.99), and the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 is $179.99 at Best Buy.
