Summary
A tiny plug-in indoor camera for people already using Alexa: 1080p video, infrared night vision, motion alerts and two-way audio in a body about the size of a pill bottle. Before buying, know that nothing is recorded without a paid Blink plan or a separately sold Sync Module 2.
Strengths
- Tiny, discreet body that sits on a shelf or mounts to a wall or ceiling with the included screws.
- Daytime 1080p video was called high-quality by PCMag and solid by CNET.
- Infrared night vision works in a fully dark room, and Consumer Reports rated nighttime video very good.
- Works with Alexa for live view, clip playback and arm/disarm, plus IFTTT.
- Adjustable motion sensitivity, Activity Zones and clip length from 5 to 30 seconds.
- Low price for an indoor camera; Safewise calls it the best camera for hiding.
Weaknesses
- No free cloud storage: after the 30-day trial you get motion alerts and 5-minute live views only.
- No local storage without a separately bought Sync Module 2 and USB flash drive.
- No person or vehicle detection on this model, even with a paid plan.
- Overexposure in TechGearLab’s 2025 retest left details unreadable, and Consumer Reports called daytime images soft.
- The 110° field of view is narrow and there is no pan or tilt.
- 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only; owners report dropouts, especially with dual-band routers.

Subscription and running costs
The camera is the cheap part. Recording is not. Blink’s Basic plan is $3.99 a month or $39.99 a year for one device, and Plus is $11.99 a month or $119.99 a year for unlimited devices, effective 2025-10-08 (Blink). Those are the first increases since 2020. Without a plan and without a Sync Module 2, the Mini records nothing: you get motion notifications, a 5-minute live view and a manual thumbnail refresh. A 30-day trial is included.
The other way to store clips is a one-time Sync Module 2 plus your own USB flash drive, which keeps recordings local with no monthly fee. In the US, extended warranty coverage on eligible devices comes through a service contract bundled with the Plus plan rather than a manufacturer extension.
Video quality and field of view
Scores disagree and the disagreement is not small. PCMag (2023) praised the 1080p picture and CNET (2022) called performance solid. TechGearLab (2025) scored the camera 44/100 and said overexposure day and night left details unreadable, while Consumer Reports (2026) found daytime images soft but nighttime video very good, and Safewise (2025) called night vision clear but washed out in a partly lit room.
The lens is also narrow. At 110 degrees it was one of the smallest views in TechGearLab’s test pool, and there is no pan or tilt. A separate $30 Pan-Tilt Mount was released in 2022, but that is an accessory, and this is an indoor-only camera that Blink says does motion detection poorly through glass.
Alerts, app and connectivity
Setup runs through the Blink app by QR code, clip length is adjustable from 5 to 30 seconds, and Consumer Reports measured an average alert response of 4.8 seconds. In r/blinkcameras threads, owners report cameras that keep recording but stop sending push notifications, and cameras that stopped detecting motion or recording after a Sync Module firmware update until they were power-cycled; one owner fixed missing alerts by turning off the AI video descriptions feature. Those are anecdotal threads, not a failure rate.
Connectivity is the recurring theme. Blink itself names poor signal strength as the most common cause of connection failure and recommends 3+ bars and at least 2 Mbps upload; owners describe setup trouble with dual-band routers and cameras going offline intermittently. The Mini is 2.4 GHz only, so a 5 GHz network will not help. A 2022 hands-on reviewer also noted a faint clicking sound when motion is detected.
Is it worth it?
Below about $30 it is a reasonable pick for an Alexa household that wants a discreet indoor camera and accepts a subscription for recordings. From $31 to $40 it is only fair, and above $40 the value disappears: the Blink Mini 2 adds a spotlight, color night vision and person detection at a $39.99 list price, and Blink’s own store now leads with the Mini 2K+ (from $49.99) and the Mini Pan-Tilt ($39.99). PCMag tested the Mini at $29.99 against a $34.99 list price in 2023, Consumer Reports found it from $24.99 across three retailers in July 2026, TechGearLab listed it at $30 in 2025, and a Best Buy two-camera white set was listed at $44.99.
Which model this is
This page covers the Blink Mini first generation, model number BCM00300U, sold in Black and White. It is not the newer Blink Mini 2 or Mini 2K+ (model BCM00700U), which add a built-in spotlight, color night vision, weather resistance and person detection. Blink is owned by Amazon and provides the warranty through Immedia Semiconductor. The white one-camera US variant is ASIN B07X6C9RMF. Blink’s current products page no longer lists the first-generation Mini, so stock now sits with retailers; match on BCM00300U if you want this exact camera.
