Summary
A compact 10 A corded angle grinder whose only real difference from the crowded 4-1/2-inch field is the X-LOCK tool-free wheel mount. Buy it if you already own X-LOCK wheels or swap discs all day — and check the consumable costs first, since X-LOCK locks you into pricier proprietary wheels.
Strengths
- Tool-free wheel changes: snap the wheel on, pull the lever, done; Bosch claims X-LOCK changes are up to 5x faster than a spanner wrench.
- Pro Tool Reviews’ 2019 hands-on test found no wheel slippage or abnormal flex under heavy load.
- At 4.6 lb it is light for a 10 A corded grinder, and the paddle switch works from multiple grip positions.
- X-LOCK wheels fit standard 7/8 in. grinders, so your accessories still work on your other tools.
- Service Minder brushes replace guesswork with a planned stop when brush service is due.
Weaknesses
- X-LOCK consumables cost more than standard wheels, and owners report them being harder to find in stores.
- No kickback control, electric brake or restart protection — the features PTR says are increasingly expected on modern grinders.
- Bosch’s own manual warns against lock-on where kickback is likely, because releasing a locked trigger “may be difficult”.
- No variable speed and no overload protection.
- The manual rules out Type 11 cup and Type 1 straight grinding entirely.
- One r/BoschProClub user could not mount a disc after spinning the grinder with no disc fitted — a single anecdote, not a confirmed defect pattern.

X-LOCK: the mount is the product
Everything else about the GWX10-45PE is a conventional brushed 10 A grinder. The X-LOCK interface is the reason to pick it: wheels snap onto the mount with an audible click and release with a lever, no spanner wrench, no flange nuts, no threaded spindle. Bosch claims X-LOCK changes are up to five times faster than a conventional mount, and Pro Tool Reviews’ 2019 hands-on test — using this model as the vehicle — found no wheel slippage under heavy grinding load and no abnormal flex. The only install failure they saw was on the user: fail to click the accessory fully home and it falls off before start-up.
X-LOCK wheels are backwards compatible and fit standard 7/8 in. arbor grinders; the reverse is not true, and no adapter exists, according to the ToolGuyd thread. Bosch’s family page says “Bosch and other accessory manufacturers offer a wide variety of X-LOCK wheels,” but names no third-party brand.
The most repeated complaint in the 2022 ToolGuyd comments and 2024 Reddit threads is cost. One ToolGuyd commenter priced Bosch X-LOCK 80-grit flap discs at $11 each, against $65 for a 10-pack of Cubitron or $85 for a 20-pack of Norton, and said they would “have to pay more to get likely less quality.” Several compared the system to an inkjet printer: cheap hardware, expensive consumables for life. Reddit commenters add that X-LOCK discs are harder to find in physical stores and “prices are still a good deal higher than a non X,” and the ToolGuyd thread reports that welding-supply shops “don’t carry X-lock.” For a user who burns through flap discs, the per-disc cost matters more than the sticker price. Owners who swap wheels constantly disagree: for production work the speed of change still wins, and PTR found the system has “no negative effect on the feel of grinding.”
Lock-on, kickback and the safety gap
A tool spinning at 11,000 rpm with no electronic safety net deserves an honest look at what it lacks. Bosch’s technical data lists no variable speed and no overload protection; no KickBack Control, Electronic Clutch Control, restart protection or X-Brake appears for this model — Bosch’s family page reserves those for “Some Bosch grinders” and shows X-Brake on two cordless models only. PTR’s 2026 guide argues that kickback control and electric brakes are increasingly expected on modern grinders, and recommends the brushless Metabo HPT G13VE2 at $209 and the Ridgid R1006 at $60 over any Bosch corded grinder.
The lock-on paddle carries a first-party warning sellers never repeat: Bosch’s manual says not to use the lock-ON feature where kickback is likely, such as working into a corner, because a bound wheel kicks back against the direction of rotation and releasing the locked trigger “may be difficult.” A continuously depressed lock-ON button blocks the trigger release entirely, so the manual says you must know where the button is and be ready to switch it off in an emergency. If tight-space cutting is your main job, the GWX10-45DE is the same 10 A grinder without lock-on.
Maintenance, warranty and parts
Bosch documents the upkeep instead of leaving it vague: inspect the carbon brushes every two to six months, regrease the gears with the specified lubricant at every brush change, and treat a Service Minder stop as the planned maintenance it is. The manual bans gasoline, carbon tetrachloride, chlorinated solvents and ammonia-based cleaners on the housing, and includes an extension-cord table — a 10 A tool calls for 18 AWG at 25 ft, 16 AWG at 50 ft and 14 AWG at 100 ft.
The warranty is one year from date of purchase against defects in material or workmanship. It excludes consumables such as grinding wheels, and claims mean returning the complete tool, transportation prepaid, to a Bosch Factory Service Center or Authorized Service Station. Spare parts are looked up by exact part number 3601GB1110 on Bosch’s service site; the catalogue loads dynamically and the orderable list could not be read, so treat parts as identified by model rather than confirmed in stock.
Is it worth it?
October 2026 store checks showed $115 at Acme Tools, $115 at Lowe’s, $109 at Home Depot and $149 at Preston Hardware, with the slide-switch GWX10-45E at $125 at Northern Tool. Bosch’s own promotional sheets listed a $99 reference price with $64 promotional pricing in March 2023 and again in August 2024, and a ToolGuyd deal post caught the tool at $69 at Lowe’s on a one-day deal in April 2022, with other dealers at $99. The reconditioned GWX10-45PE-RT has been listed around $71.99.
At a deal price in the $69-99 range the X-LOCK convenience alone carries the purchase. At the $109-125 street prices seen in 2026, the case rests on already owning X-LOCK wheels or valuing tool-free changes enough to absorb the higher per-disc cost; the 2026 market also offers brushless grinders with kickback control and electric brakes that PTR recommends over any Bosch corded model. If you run standard 7/8 in. wheels or swap discs only between jobs, the GWX10-45DE, the GWX10-45E or a brushless competitor will serve you better.
Which model this is
The GWX10-45PE is the lock-on paddle-switch member of a three-model corded X-LOCK lineup: the GWX10-45E has a lock-on/off slide switch and weighs 4.5 lb, the GWX10-45DE has a no-lock-on paddle and weighs 4.6 lb, and all three share the same 120 V, 10 A, 11,000 rpm core. Older Bosch 10 A grinders such as the GWS10-45PE use a threaded 5/8"-11 spindle and are different tools. Bosch also sells a factory-reconditioned GWX10-45PE-RT. The listing identity is ASIN B07W9LLGHV.
