Summary
A large countertop convection oven that air-fries as well as it toasts, bakes and roasts, with a 13-preset panel and PID temperature control that held a set temperature better than any rival in Wirecutter’s tests. Breville’s US site no longer lists this model, so check that support documentation still exists before you commit.
Strengths
- Held a set temperature better than any other model Wirecutter tested, thanks to PID control.
- Air-fries to pod-style air fryer standards while keeping full toaster-oven range.
- Large cavity works as a second oven: 9x13 pan, Dutch oven, or two quarter-sheet pans.
- Nonstick interior was the easiest to clean and held up over a year-plus of use.
- Two-year warranty with round-trip shipping paid and a real repair-or-replace path.
- Handy extras: two fan speeds that can be switched off, Phase Cook, pause-on-door timer.
Weaknesses
- The super-convection fan is loud — the noisiest in its class, though quieter than a hair dryer.
- Toast browns less evenly than on cheaper rivals, including the Cuisinart TOB-260N1NAS.
- The chassis is very heavy and not something to move often.
- The included nonstick pizza pan’s coating wears over time.
- Dehydrate capacity is small; a dedicated dehydrator is better for regular dehydrating.
- No user-replaceable internal parts, so out-of-warranty repairs go through Breville service.

Which model this is
This page covers the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro, model BOV900BSS, the stainless-steel 120 V US version. Don’t confuse it with the connected Joule Oven Air Fryer Pro, the smaller Smart Oven Air Fryer BOV800BSS, or the compact BOV680. Breville’s current US oven page promotes the Joule and the BOV680 instead of this model, so treat BOV900BSS as a mature line that may be phased out. The US Amazon listing carries ASIN B01N5UPTZS.
Air-frying, toasting and temperature control
Wirecutter’s 2026 testing used toast heat maps, frozen fries, tenders and fish sticks, cookies, Brussels sprouts, whole chickens, box-mix cake and air-probe temperature checks. The oven produced crispy fries with creamy interiors, crunchy fish sticks, even cookies and golden roast chicken, though the chicken needed extra time for browning next to some rivals. It held set temperature better than any other model tested and did not dry out Brussels sprouts the way most competitors did. Toast is the weak spot: heat-map tests put its browning below the cheaper Cuisinart runner-up. Two fan speeds help here, since you can drop the fan to low or off for gentle baking.
Noise, size and cleaning
Plan around the fan. The super-convection setting is the loudest in its class, described as quieter than a hair dryer but the most consistent complaint in testing; if quiet matters, look at the Cuisinart TOB-260N1NAS. The oven is also very heavy, so it wants a permanent counter spot. Cleaning is a strong point: the nonstick cavity was the easiest to wipe down of all models tested and stayed in good shape over a year of use. Wirecutter’s care advice is to run a few empty ventilated cycles before first use to burn off manufacturing residue, wash the racks and accessories in soapy water, and clean the interior and crumb tray often to cut fire risk.
Warranty, parts and running costs
Breville backs the oven with a two-year warranty, an exception to the usual one-year norm. Claims go through Breville rather than the store: you contact them, they send a pre-paid shipping label, and typical turnaround is up to 10 business days plus shipping, with repair, replacement or reimbursement at their discretion. The warranty is void for commercial use, unauthorized repairs, normal wear, and units bought from unauthorized resellers. Repairability is below average at the owner level, because Breville sells no internal replacement parts; out-of-warranty work goes to authorized servicers. Running costs are just electricity plus optional extras: Wirecutter notes a pizza stone at about $30 from Williams Sonoma and extra dehydrator baskets.
Is it worth it?
Wirecutter’s September 2026 update showed the oven at a $400 list price and a $320 sale price at Target, Best Buy and Macy’s at the same time. Near that lower figure the case is strong: temperature hold, genuine air-frying, the big cavity and the two-year warranty. At full list, the Cuisinart TOB-260N1NAS, about $300, matches it on most cooking tasks with slightly slower crisping, quieter operation and a three-year warranty, so the Breville has to earn its place on air-fry speed or capacity. Above list there is no evidence to justify paying more. One structural caution: with Breville’s own US site no longer listing this SKU, first-party support documents may get harder to find over time.
