Flow settings and how it works
Three settings cover most cats: a gentle flow with the flower off, a bubbling top with just the cap, and calm streams with the full flower fitted. The pump sits in the base and draws from the 3 L reservoir, and a window shows the water level. Some older pumps carry a flow-control slider that goes to “+”, while newer pumps don’t.
The fountain is built to come apart easily so a cat can’t break or tip it, which also means a determined cat can swat pieces loose. The flower accessory is sold separately as 44820 if it goes missing.
Noise, upkeep and hygiene
Pump noise is the most common complaint and usually traces to a low water level, a pump clogged with cat hair, or parts seated wrong after cleaning. Catit’s own advice is to keep the water at the wavy line, clean the pump monthly, and sit the fountain on a hard, level surface rather than wood. One owner in r/CatAdvice reported the fountain got louder after a second cleaning, suspecting the pump had been handled roughly, and Wirecutter measured the Catit as louder than the Wonder Creature in its testing.
The all-plastic body takes more attention than stainless steel or ceramic. Petco review summaries note occasional mold or murky water even with regular maintenance, and Catit’s guidance stresses keeping the filter submerged and the water fresh. Wirecutter saw a visible ring of gunk after the first week on the stainless-steel sibling. If you won’t clean it weekly, choose a steel or ceramic fountain instead.
Filters and running costs
The Triple Action Filter needs changing about every 30 days, or sooner if it looks saturated. Catit sells them in 2-packs, 5-packs and 12-packs, along with a three-tool cleaning set. The pump is a wear item: Catit UK lists a replacement USB pump for the LED Flower Fountain at £13.00 and a general replacement USB pump at £9.00. New filters must be rinsed and submerged before first use, or they float and can leak black sediment.
Is it worth it?
At about $15 it is a strong entry-level buy: 3 L capacity, three flow settings, triple-action filtration, widely stocked parts and a compact footprint. Between $20 and $30 it stays reasonable for buyers who want a proven, well-supported model. Above $30, stainless steel and ceramic fountains offer better hygiene at similar capacity, though their spare parts are often harder to find. Chewy lists it at $27.99, the Catit UK store lists the same model at £27.00, and Petco snapshots have shown $14.99 and $37.99. The recurring filter cost is the thing to weigh over the life of the fountain.
Which model this is
This page covers the original plastic Catit Flower Fountain 43742, the entry model in Catit’s Flower Fountain line. Catit also sells the LED Flower Fountain 43747 and the Stainless Steel Flower Fountain 43725, which share the reservoir, dimensions, filter and flow settings. Don’t confuse any of them with the pumpless Catit Easy Clean Flower Fountain 43621 or the Catit PIXI Smart Drinking Fountain, which are different designs. The US listing uses ASIN B0146QXOB0.
