Summary
A budget 1.8-liter borosilicate-glass kettle with a 1500 W heater, a removable lid and a 360° powered base, for buyers who want fast boiling and easy cleaning rather than temperature controls. Inspect the glass and the spout area on the first boil, because owners report cracks and leaks even though no defect rate exists.
Strengths
- One switch, fast heating and automatic shutoff make it simple to live with.
- The 1.8 L body boils a family-sized volume in one cycle.
- The removable lid leaves a wide opening for filling and cleaning.
- The glass body and blue LEDs make the water level easy to read.
- Automatic shutoff and boil-dry protection are included at this price.
- No scheduled consumables; running cost is electricity plus occasional descaling.
Weaknesses
- No variable temperature control and no keep-warm mode.
- Hand wash only; the glass vessel is not dishwasher safe.
- The glass body is not cool-touch; only the handle is described as stay-cool.
- “Cordless” is base-only, because the kettle lifts off a corded base.
- Long-term durability is unproven, with a one-year warranty and mostly short, incentivized reviews.
- Repairability is low; no consumer parts catalogue for the heater, switch or base was found.

What owners and testers report
Exact-model Best Buy reviews repeatedly praise rapid heating, simple operation, the visible glass and blue LEDs, easy filling and cleaning through the removable lid, large capacity and lift-off serving. That pool includes many incentivized reviews and mostly short ownership periods, so treat it cautiously. KitchenGearDude’s 2026 review says multiple owner reports mention a loose or torn seal around the spout and recommends checking for pooling or leakage on the first boil; that is a secondary summary, not a measured rate.
The individual failure reports are worth knowing but do not establish a pattern. One Best Buy verified purchaser said the kettle lasted only a few weeks, and another received a unit with a small crack in the glass near the top. A Walmart verified owner reported the glass pot cracking after three uses. For this kettle there is no exact-model multi-year corpus, and complaints about other Chefman kettles were left out. Treat cracks and spout-seal leaks as real cautions rather than a known defect rate.
Boil time and running costs
Chefman advertises boiling in as little as about 3 minutes, but an independent owner test measured roughly 7 minutes for a full 1.8 L load. Those are not directly contradictory, because Chefman does not say the 3-minute claim applies to a full pot. The 1500 W heater is quick either way.
There are no required filter cartridges or proprietary consumables. Using the seven-minute full-pot test, one boil a day is about 0.175 kWh a day, or 63.9 kWh a year. At the EIA’s July 2026 US residential average of 18.31 cents/kWh, that comes to about $11.70 a year in electricity. Descaling uses white vinegar or a commercial descaler as needed, so there is no fixed schedule or annual part to buy.
Warranty and repairs
The warranty is a limited one year for the original purchaser, on purchases through authorized sellers, with proof of purchase in the US or Canada. It covers defects in material and workmanship under normal household use and excludes misuse, poor maintenance, commercial use, normal wear, unauthorized alteration and catastrophic events. Chefman says support may request photos or video to assess a claim, and it may repair or replace a defective unit, with transportation charges borne by the buyer.
Repairability is the weak spot. No official consumer parts catalogue for the glass vessel, heating base, switch, thermostat or lid was found, and at this price the replacement economics usually favour a new kettle. Long-term reliability is unknown, because most retailer reviews cover short ownership and many Best Buy reviews are marked incentivized.
Is it worth it?
At $24 or less it is a strong buy for a basic large glass kettle. In October 2026 Walmart listed the black RJ11-18-PL at $23.52, while Chefman and Best Buy were at $27.99. At $25 to $28 it remains reasonable, because you still get 1.8 L, a 1500 W heater, the removable lid, auto shutoff and boil-dry protection. Above about $29 the value weakens, since the closely related RJ11-18-PL-TI adds a removable tea infuser for $29.99, and the Chefman Lightning adds adjustable temperature, a one-hour keep-hot mode, 1750 W and a removable infuser for $39.99 at Walmart. If you only need boiling water and the price stays in the low to mid $20s, this one does the job.
