Summary
A non-electric glass Mason-jar cold brew maker for one or two regular cold-coffee drinkers who want to steep batches in the refrigerator and don’t mind sediment. Check your refrigerator shelf height and your tolerance for gritty coffee before you buy.
Strengths
- No power, no pump, no disposable filters — just grounds, water, time and a refrigerator.
- The 160-micron stainless filter washes and reuses; no proprietary paper supply needed.
- The same jar brews, stores and pours, so there is no second vessel to wash.
- Owners in r/coldbrew report routine success with the 2-quart size for household batches.
- All components are dishwasher-safe, and the maker publishes exact gasket dimensions for replacement checks.
- The wide-mouth Mason format means a broken jar can sometimes be replaced with a compatible third-party jar.
Weaknesses
- Sediment is the leading complaint: WIRED’s testers found the filter too porous and the coffee gritty, and owners in r/coldbrew report muddy bottoms.
- The brew takes 12–14 hours at room temperature or 24–48 hours refrigerated — it cannot make a fresh cup immediately.
- The tall, heavy glass jar needs refrigerator shelf height and careful handling; a filled 64-oz jar weighs roughly 6.66 lb before coffee.
- WIRED reports liquid escaped when the jar was shaken, even with the lid sealed.
- The tapered infuser limits coffee mass, so owners who want a strong concentrate sometimes steep grounds loose and strain at the end.
- The 30-day defects warranty is short, and the maker does not publish multi-year coverage.

Brewing and daily use
The workflow is simple: load about two volume cups of coarse grounds into the removable metal filter, add cold water until the grounds are wet, steep, then remove the filter and use the same jar for storage and pouring. The maker recommends 12–14 hours at room temperature or 24–48 hours in the refrigerator. Shouldit preferred longer than 18 hours in its 1-quart refrigerator test. Times depend on grind, beans, water temperature and desired dilution.
A 2-quart owner in r/coldbrew reported about 48 oz of concentrate per batch after filtering, enough for a couple for 3–4 days. That figure is method-specific, not a guaranteed yield. The basket displaces liquid and wet grounds retain brew, so 64 oz of finished coffee from one batch is not realistic.
Sediment and filtration
Sediment is the most reported problem. WIRED’s testers found the steel mesh too porous and the coffee gritty. Shouldit’s independently purchased 1-quart brewer left considerable sediment, and the testers preferred settling, decanting or passing the brew through paper afterward. In r/coldbrew, an owner who had both County Line sizes warned that the filter leaves sediment, and another documented cloudy coffee with coarsely ordered grounds. No reliable defect rate can be calculated from anecdotes or lab batches.
Owners who want clearer coffee report workarounds: using the filter to strain at the end rather than infusing inside it, or using the County Line glass and lid with paper filters. Both increase cleanup. A coarser grind helps reduce sediment but can produce weak concentrate if the brew time is too short.
Cleaning, leaks and breakage
The maker confirms all components are dishwasher-safe and recommends cleaning immediately after every brew to prevent mold. Rinse thoroughly and allow seals and filter to dry; inspect the silicone seal and flip cap for trapped residue. Coffee oil residue and trapped wet grounds can accumulate in filter pores and gasket crevices. Shouldit describes removing the gasket and flip lid for thorough cleaning and an occasional deeper filter soak when clogged.
WIRED reports liquid escaped from the closed jar when its testers shook it, even with the lid sealed. Shouldit’s 1-quart sample stayed watertight in its own shake test, so results vary by sample, lid, fit and gasket placement. Check the gasket and threads before pouring; place the jar upright and do not rely on a completely spillproof seal.
Soda-lime glass can chip or crack if struck, dropped or thermally shocked. The seller-hosted user manual explicitly warns about thermal shock from hot liquid to soda-lime glass. A 64-oz filled jar is heavy; do not carry it by the lid alone if its thread engagement is uncertain. No reports of broken jars were found in the sources.
Parts, running costs and warranty
The brewer has no proprietary disposable consumable. Electricity cost is $0 a year directly; the glass brewer has no motor, heater or wall plug. Mandatory disposable filters cost $0 a year; the washable metal basket replaces paper filters if the owner accepts some silt.
An illustrative ingredient scenario: one 2-quart batch weekly using 100 g of dry coffee per batch and an assumed $12 per 1-lb bag costs about $137.57 a year for grounds, before tax, water, spillage or waste. The maker’s official recipe is 2 cups by volume, so 100 g is a scenario, not a verified conversion. At 150 g per batch the same scenario rises to $206.35 a year.
Replacement parts are condition-based, not yearly service items. A separate County Line 2-quart stainless filter was listed at $15.40 plus $10.60 shipping in one eBay listing, and RetailMarket advertised a purported 2-quart filter at $43.49. A branded 3-pack of replacement silicone seals was listed at CAD $7.49 on Walmart Canada, which is not a US dollar price. Ball 64-oz wide-mouth glass Mason jars were listed at $14.79 for a six-pack at Target, or about $2.47 per jar if all six are used. The maker’s US spare SKU and price for original parts were not verified.
The maker’s warranty is 30 days from original purchase against defects in material or workmanship. Defective products determined eligible may be refunded or replaced. The company states it cannot ship replacements internationally but may refund qualifying international orders. Returns are separate from warranty: unused, resalable, originally packaged goods can be returned within 30 days, with refund processing generally 3–5 business days after receipt. The help center provides an online request form for broken glass on delivery, missing seals, a lid leak or an infuser seam problem.
Is it worth it?
At or below $30 delivered new, it is excellent value for a buyer needing glass and a reusable strainer. Between $30 and $40 delivered, it is fair if the lid and 64-oz jar fit the fridge. Above $40, compare Takeya’s 2-quart glass brewer at $42.99 direct, or OXO’s 24-oz Compact Brewer at $39.99 direct if a smaller, cleanly drained concentrate is preferable. If sediment drives the purchase, paying more for the same coarse mesh without better filtration is not automatically worthwhile.
October 2026 eBay listings for new 64-oz complete kits ranged from $25.99 plus $10.00 shipping to $47.99 plus $7.99 shipping. The official County Line website primarily sends buyers to external outlets and does not expose a fixed manufacturer-direct USD checkout price.
Which model this is
This page covers the 64-oz complete brewer: the 2-quart wide-mouth glass jar, stainless-steel mesh infuser and screw-on flip-spout lid as a set. It is not the 32-oz jar, a lid-only beverage pitcher, or a separately sold filter. One specific gray-handled new 64-oz listing identifies UPC 854842007440; some 64-oz variants use other colors and lid arrangements. The Amazon listing for the 64-oz model is ASIN B07VJJJ764. The most detailed Shouldit lab test was performed on the 1-quart sibling, so its exact measured sizes and scores must not be presented as 64-oz-specific laboratory findings.
