Dangbei DBOX02: problems, parts and running costs

Checked: 2026-10-05

Summary

Owner complaints about this laser projector are mostly firmware and picture-setting issues rather than hardware failures: a light-bleed ring around the image is reported, and 3D, digital zoom and the colour tools were simply dead on early units until firmware V11.1.0.89 landed in October 2024. Running costs are near zero, because there is no lamp, no filter and no consumable, so the only recurring outlay is electricity at a roughly 150 W draw. It is a good buy at or below $950 from Dangbei direct, fair between about $1,150 and $1,300, and worth less than that once better-specified projectors with Dolby Vision appear at the same money.

Common problems and fixes

Parts and consumables

Yearly running cost

There is nothing to replace: no lamp, no filter, and no consumable beyond optional mounts, stands and 3D glasses, so an owner who buys no accessories spends $0 on parts. The only recurring cost is electricity at a roughly 150 W rated draw. Dangbei states the laser uses 50% less power than a 300 W lamp projector viewing eight hours a day, which it puts at 438 kWh saved a year, but no independent measurement of power draw at normal viewing settings has been published, so treat that figure as a manufacturer claim. No subscription is required to use the projector itself.

When it is a good buy

Direct-store pricing, checked October 2026: Dangbei US lists the DBOX02 at $1,199 against a $1,899 compare-at, and its own Spring Sale page had it at $949 with the newer DBOX02 Pro at $899. ProjectorCentral’s street price was $949 with a $1,899 MSRP in 2024.
