Summary
The RIVER 2 Pro is a 768 Wh LFP portable power station with an 800 W inverter and fast AC charging, built for camping, mobile work and short blackouts. Before you buy, know that independent testing measured only 620 Wh of usable AC energy and that the fans are loud and unpredictable.
Strengths
- Rapid recharge is real: OutdoorGearLab measured about 75–78 minutes to full, close to the 70-minute claim.
- Good output-to-weight ratio: 800 W continuous and four AC sockets in an 18 lb package.
- LFP chemistry with a manufacturer-rated 3,000 cycles to 80% capacity.
- Flexible charging from AC, a vehicle, solar or 100 W USB-C PD.
- Owners report powering a TV, router and media gear during an outage, or several hours of refrigerator backup.
Weaknesses
- Independent testing measured only 620 Wh of usable AC energy, about 81% of the 768 Wh nameplate.
- Fans are loud and unpredictable; the maker cites up to 62 dB at high wattage.
- It is not a true UPS: EPS switchover takes up to 30 ms and the maker warns against powering critical electronics from it.
- Solar input caps at 220 W, which is low against newer stations and slow in winter or shade.
- Only one USB-C port and no expansion battery.
- X-Boost is not real 1600 W: the continuous inverter stays 800 W, so heaters run reduced and some voltage-sensitive loads refuse to start.

Real usable energy and runtime
OutdoorGearLab measured about 620 Wh of usable AC energy from the 768 Wh pack, or roughly 81% of nameplate. That means a continuous 100 W AC load runs about six hours under those test conditions rather than the 7.7 hours the nameplate suggests, and inverter overhead bites harder at very light loads. The minimum idealized solar time at 200 W is 3.84 hours before conversion losses, so a 200 W panel cannot reliably refill the pack in a short winter or shaded window.
Fan noise and failures
Testers and owners both flag the fans. OutdoorGearLab heard loud, high-pitched, unpredictable fan noise during charging and higher-power use; the maker acknowledges up to 62 dB, and owners describe rapid fan-speed changes around low AC loads or fan activity in EPS pass-through. Some cut the charge power in the app to trade speed for quiet. Separate owner threads report AC output stopping, a flashing 60 Hz indicator, errors that would not clear, and AC charging clicking or ticking after firmware updates; one 2025 solar user reported charging that would not resume after hitting an app charge limit on a then-current firmware version. These are individual reports rather than a measured failure rate, and persistent faults get warranty repair or replacement, not a reliable DIY fix. Support is mixed: some replacements work for years, others describe slow follow-up.
Parts, cables and running costs
There are no scheduled consumables and no mandatory subscriptions or fuel. EcoFlow’s charging cables are the main add-ons: a 2.5 m / 8.2 ft solar-to-XT60i cable at $24.99 and a 1.5 m / 4.92 ft XT60i car cable at $21.99, both US list prices, plus a 3 m solar extension cable at $29.99. Optional solar panels run from $259 for a 110 W panel to $399 for a 220 W bifacial, and any panel’s open-circuit voltage must stay inside the 11–50 V input window. The only ongoing cost is grid electricity for AC charging; an illustrative budget of 1.0 kWh per full charge at $0.20/kWh puts 50 charges a year near $10 and 200 near $40, though real draw depends on efficiency, standby use and local rates.
Is it worth it?
US pricing checked in October 2026: EcoFlow listed a new unit at $389 against a $529 reference, Best Buy showed $329 with a $599 comparison price, and EcoFlow’s refurbished listing was $259 but sold out. For a new unit, $300 or less is a strong buy if the warranty and seller are legitimate, and $300–$350 is reasonable if compact size and fast charging matter. Above $390, the larger EcoFlow DELTA 3 Classic (1024 Wh, 1800 W) that EcoFlow lists from $449 deserves a look, as do other 1 kWh models on promotion. A manufacturer-refurbished unit around $250–$260 can be attractive, but check stock and the refurbished warranty terms rather than assuming the new-unit five-year coverage.
Which model this is
This page covers the EcoFlow RIVER 2 Pro, manufacturer model EFR620, a 768 Wh LFP station at 40 Ah / 19.2 V. Don’t confuse it with the first-generation RIVER Pro, the RIVER 2 Max, or the region-specific RIVER 2 Pro 700 that uses a 716 Wh pack.
