Summary
A $59.99 wired pan-tilt security camera with 1080p video, IP66 weather resistance and no subscription required, for indoor or outdoor coverage from a single outlet. Check your router before you buy: the C31 connects on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only, and it has no battery, so a power outage takes it offline.
Strengths
- IP66 weather resistance at this price is rare, and it means real outdoor use, upside-down mounting included.
- Pan and tilt is silent and fast; Expert Reviews called motion tracking excellent for the price.
- Human, vehicle, pet, sound and crying detection all work without a subscription.
- PureColor night vision keeps colour in low light instead of a glaring spotlight.
- Local storage on microSD or HomeBase means no monthly fee for recording or alerts.
- The eufy Security app earned 9/10 from Expert Reviews for its clear layout and thumbnail notifications.
Weaknesses
- 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only — a genuine limit on congested networks or cameras mounted far from the router.
- 1080p at 15 fps trails the 2K/30 fps spec now common at this price.
- No battery backup: every power outage takes the camera offline, and there is no solar option.
- No HomeKit, SmartThings or Matter support, and Home Assistant integration is partial.
- Seller pages disagree on basics — Home Depot Canada lists 130° of tilt where eufy says 70°.
- Facial recognition and cross-camera tracking require a HomeBase Mini or S380, not the camera alone.

Video quality and night vision
Expert Reviews (July 2026) found the 1080p image sharp and colourful, with the PureColor mode “more than sufficient” in all but the darkest conditions, and gave the camera 7/10. Owners in r/EufyCam threads echo the praise: an Australian owner wrote that the video quality is “insanely good” for a 1080p camera, with detection out to 10-15 metres and reliable 24/7 recording, then ordered a second unit. Another owner running the camera at 720p medium quality still called the video excellent.
The 15 fps frame rate is the number to weigh — competing pan-tilt cameras commonly run 20-30 fps. For a porch or driveway that mostly needs to identify people rather than track fast movement, it is workable; it will not be as smooth on quick subjects.
The twin external antennas protrude like cat ears — T3’s description, and Expert Reviews called the look Doraemon-esque — so check the silhouette before you pick a mounting spot.
Detection, audio and the app
Detection covers the useful categories without a paid plan: people, vehicles, pets, sound and crying each get their own classification, and Expert Reviews tested crying detection and found it accurate. Two-way audio performed well in their hands-on, and the siren measured 80 dBA.
The eufy Security app earned 9/10 from Expert Reviews for a clear layout, rich notifications with thumbnails and a responsive pan-tilt trackpad. Setup was straightforward, and motion-alert responsiveness matched the Tapo C120 in their tests.
Storage, HomeBase and running costs
Expect to spend on storage either way. A microSD card is the ceiling at 256 GB and none is in the box; a HomeBase Mini gives 64 GB internal, expandable to 1 TB, if you want recorded video without managing cards. A HomeBase 3 also records locally, while the older HomeBase 2 is not supported — worth checking if you already own eufy kit.
Two optional subscriptions exist. Cloud storage in the UK runs £3.99 a month for one camera and £12.99 a month for several (Expert Reviews, July 2026). eufy also offers a Plus membership at $15 a month that adds cloud features and extended warranty options. Neither is required: recording, detection and alerts all work without a plan.
Is it worth it?
eufy’s US store lists the solo camera at $59.99 and the 2-pack at $109.99 (October 2026). In the UK it launched at £49.99 (T3, May 2026) and Expert Reviews saw it at £40-50 in July 2026. Home Depot Canada lists it at CAD $59.99; in Australia it is AUD $99.95 at eufy’s own store and AUD $119 as a Bunnings special order.
At $60 the pitch is simple: weatherproof pan-tilt coverage with detection and local storage for no monthly fee. The trade-offs are resolution, frame rate and Wi-Fi band, so weigh them against the budget pan-tilt cameras from TP-Link, Wyze and Blink before deciding. Nobody has published US lab test results for this exact model — the only hands-on review found is from Expert Reviews UK — so treat long-term reliability as unknown.
Which model this is
This page covers the eufy Wired Cam C31, US model numbers T817L121 (white) and T817L111 (black). It is also sold as a 2-pack (E817L122) and in a green colour. The Amazon listing for this camera is ASIN B0FR8CPD7F.
