Summary
The eufy Security Indoor Cam E220 is a 2K pan/tilt indoor camera with on-device AI detection and local microSD storage that needs no subscription. Check your Wi-Fi band before you buy: it connects to 2.4 GHz only, and owners report recurring connectivity problems.
Strengths
- Sharp 2K video with vivid colors and strong infrared night vision that picks out facial details in near darkness.
- On-device AI detection for humans, pets and crying, with automatic motion tracking that follows movement.
- Local microSD storage up to 128 GB with no subscription required, plus RTSP support for NAS recording.
- Works with Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
- Privacy Mode physically rotates the lens away from the room.
- Easy setup with an intuitive app; PCMag called out its smooth, whisper-quiet pan/tilt.
Weaknesses
- Indoor-only and not weatherproof; hardwired power restricts placement near outlets.
- 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only; no 5 GHz support.
- HomeKit streaming is capped at 1080p, and sound detection, pet commands, activity zones and intelligent motion alerts are disabled in HomeKit.
- No microSD card included despite local storage being a key feature.

Video quality and night vision
Consumer Reports rated daytime video “about as sharp and clear as we’ve seen” and night video “quite viewable, with a fair amount of brightness and clarity.” PCMag’s test found 2K video crisp and highly detailed, colors evenly saturated and bright, and night video well-lit and sharp out to around 30 feet. TechGearLab scored night vision highly — “crisp facial details even in near darkness” — but noted daytime video was not as strong as other 2K cameras, lacking finer details and washing out yellows and light blues. The camera has no color night vision; it uses infrared only.
Connectivity and firmware
Multiple E220 owners on Reddit and the eufy Community report cameras going offline and requiring power cycles or factory resets to reconnect. One Reddit user described “horrible” Wi-Fi range with cameras going offline for no reason. An eufy Community thread states cameras “still eventually go offline and will not come back online unless you remove them from the app, factory reset them and re-add them.” Firmware updates have left some units with “establishing secure video channel” or “unable to play” errors, and one eufy Community thread reports cameras “bricked by a bad version of the app.” These are anecdotal signals, not defect-rate estimates, but they are consistent enough to warrant attention. eufy’s own troubleshooting recommends checking the power adapter and cable, confirming the 2.4 GHz band, restarting camera and router, and updating firmware.
Privacy and data control
Consumer Reports rated data security “very good” but data privacy “mediocre,” stating “Eufy offers only a mediocre level of control and transparency over your data.” The camera requires the eufy Security app for setup and full feature access. HomeKit activation requires adding the device in the eufy Security app first, then completing activation in HomeKit. No facial recognition is available without a separate HomeBase (sold separately).
Is it worth it?
At $55 or below, the E220 is a strong indoor camera value: 2K resolution, pan/tilt, AI detection, local storage and broad smart-home compatibility. eufy’s US store lists the single camera at $54.99, a 2-camera kit at $99.99, a 3-camera kit at $149.99 and a 4-camera kit at $159.99. Above $70, alternatives with color night vision, outdoor capability or 5 GHz Wi-Fi support become more compelling. The optional cloud subscription is not required for local recording: Basic is $2.99/month or $29.99/year for one camera with 30 days of history, Premier is $9.99/month or $99.99/year for up to 10 cameras. The recurring costs to plan for are a microSD card (not included) and, if you want cloud history, the subscription.
