Summary
A triple-lens outdoor security camera that pairs a fixed 4K bullet lens with a panning, tilting 2K zoom lens, running on a replaceable battery with an integrated solar panel. Check the fine print before you buy: the smartest AI features and 24/7 recording need eufy’s HomeBase S380 hub and, for continuous recording, wired power.
Strengths
- One housing covers the wide shot and the zoomed follow-up, with subject tracking that hands off from bullet to PTZ.
- Human, vehicle and pet detection runs on the device, with no hub and no subscription.
- The 10,000 mAh battery is replaceable, and the 5.5 W panel charges at 2,500 lux, low enough for cloudy days.
- 32 GB of built-in storage, plus microSD expansion to 256 GB.
- IP65 sealing and an operating range down to -4°F (-20°C) suit outdoor mounting.
- Alexa and Google Assistant are both supported.
Weaknesses
- Stranger Alert and cross-camera tracking need a HomeBase S380; HomeBase 2, Mini, Professional and eufy NVR models are not compatible.
- 24/7 recording requires wired power — the included 4.2 m cable kit plus your own 5V/2A or better adapter — not battery or solar alone.
- Frame rate tops out at 15 fps.
- Wi-Fi is 2.4 GHz only, with no 5 GHz support listed.
- Apple HomeKit is not supported.
- The camera launched in September 2025 and no independent instrumented review exists yet, so real-world performance is unverified.

How the three lenses work
The fixed bullet lens watches a 130° wide area in 4K. When something moves, the PTZ head takes over: it pans a full 360°, tilts 70°, and closes in with 8× hybrid zoom (eufy’s EU NVR page breaks that down as 3× optical). On-device AI classifies humans, vehicles and pets, and tracking modes include Smart Human Tracking, Bullet-to-PTZ Tracking and Auto-framing. Dynamic privacy zones mask chosen areas while the PTZ head moves.
A handful of owner comments on eufy’s UK product page praise the setup — sharp 4K, smooth PTZ control, tracking that reads number plates — but eufy curates these comments, and no independent outlet has tested the camera, so treat them as anecdote, not measurement.
Power, solar and running costs
The integrated 5.5 W panel detaches for mounting and, thanks to the 2,500 lux charging threshold, tops up the battery even on cloudy days. The 10,000 mAh battery is replaceable, which extends the camera’s serviceable life. A full charge takes about 6-8 hours at 5V 2A over USB-C, and the manual recommends charging to 100% before mounting.
Continuous 24/7 recording is not a battery or solar feature: it needs the included 4.2 m cable kit (1.2 m of charging cable plus a 3 m extension) and a user-supplied 5V/2A or better adapter, on firmware V1.0.5.4 or later. Local storage carries no subscription fee. A replacement battery costs 69.99 EUR on eufy’s EU store. The manual’s FAQ lists battery draining too quickly as a common issue, usually tied to frequent motion triggers; adjusting sensitivity and updating firmware are the suggested fixes.
Setup friction owners report
The manual FAQ documents the setup gripes: Wi-Fi connectivity problems, batteries draining too quickly, video quality that suffers when the network is slow, and events not recording because motion detection is off or storage is full. The Q&A beside it shows real struggles — one user could not get the PTZ head to move at all (“pan will not pan, camera will not move”), another could not reinstall the camera after removing it from an NVR, and a third asked whether the solar panel can sit on the roof while the camera hides under the eaves. The manual’s own advice: mount at 2-3 m, angle the camera rather than aiming it straight at the area, and give the panel real sunlight.
Is it worth it?
At the $300 announcement price reported by Engadget (2025-09-04), the feature set — triple lens, solar, IP65, on-device AI, local storage, replaceable battery — is competitive on paper, but eufy’s own EU store now lists 349 EUR (about $380 at the time of this check) and the UK store 299 GBP, while Anker’s Canada store shows CA$439.99. Long-term reliability, battery life without solar, night-vision range and tracking accuracy are all unverified because no independent instrumented test exists. If the wire-free solar design and local storage appeal to you, it is a plausible pick — go in knowing you are buying on manufacturer claims and a handful of curated owner comments.
Which model this is
This page covers the eufyCam S4, model T8172 (US variant T81721W1), the first camera in eufyCam’s new S-series naming. The US listing is ASIN B0FH31CZSH. Sibling products such as the PoE Bullet-PTZ Cam S4 and the NVR Security System S4 Max share the triple-lens idea but connect differently and are not covered here. Do not expect HomeKit, 5 GHz Wi-Fi or standalone 24/7 recording.
