Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

A hardwired Wi-Fi doorbell for homes that already have low-voltage doorbell wiring, with square 1536 × 1536 video and local microSD recording that keeps clips off the cloud. Check that you have doorbell power before buying: there is no battery option.

Strengths

  • Local microSD recording up to 256 GB avoids a monthly cloud bill.
  • TechHive found installation straightforward and person detection effective once zones were tuned.
  • Tom’s Guide rated video quality very good for the model’s generation.
  • It can also record to a compatible NVR, not just to a card.
  • Hardwired power means there is no battery to recharge or replace.

Weaknesses

  • It needs existing low-voltage doorbell wiring and will not run on a battery.
  • Tom’s Guide found AI human detection inconsistent.
  • At its 2021 review the account had no two-factor authentication; confirm current firmware.
  • Rain or infrared glare can set off some night recordings.
  • The fisheye view looks distorted until the software corrects it.
  • No component-level repair path was found.

Local storage and running costs

The DB1C can record to a microSD card, the cloud or a compatible NVR, so a cloud subscription is optional rather than required. A microSD card is the main one-time storage cost for local recording. That flexibility is the model’s strongest selling point: TechHive called the local recording unusually useful at this price class.

Video, detection and setup

The maximum output is a square 1536 × 1536, not the “1080p” some marketing copy uses and not 4K. The 170° vertical view is tall, and the fisheye perspective needs software correction to look straight. Person detection worked well after the zones were tuned, according to TechHive; Tom’s Guide found the human detection less consistent.

Repairs and upkeep

There is no user-replaceable battery because the unit is hardwired, and no component-level repair path was found. EZVIZ still publishes a DB1C manual and support page, so documentation is available. Keep the firmware current, because the launch-era review flagged a missing two-factor authentication that may since have changed.

Which model this is

This page covers the EZVIZ DB1C, model CS-DB1C-A1-1E2W2FR. It is a hardwired doorbell, not the battery-powered DB2 family and not the DB1 Pro. EZVIZ marketing sometimes calls it 1080p, but the spec sheet and TechHive’s downloaded clip both show a 1536 × 1536 square output.
