Summary
Garmin’s smaller lifestyle smartwatch: a 41 mm AMOLED watch with multi-day battery, the Elevate Gen 5 heart-rate sensor with ECG, and a speaker and mic for calls. Check the finish first: the “French Gray” name covers the case and band, while part number 010-02785-02 has a soft gold bezel.
Strengths
- Multi-day battery: Consumer Reports measured 140 hours of typical use, and The Verge saw nine to 10 days with always-on off.
- Fitness and workout accuracy test well, including heart rate within about 5 bpm of a Polar H10 chest strap.
- Light and comfortable for sleep tracking at 27 g body, 40 g with the band.
- Bright 390 × 390 AMOLED display.
- A health stack of Sleep Coach, nap detection, Body Battery and Morning Report.
- Speaker and microphone let you take calls and use your phone’s assistant from the wrist.
Weaknesses
- Sleep-stage accuracy is a clear relative weakness; a 2026 University of Salzburg study ranked the Venu 3 sixth of seven at 63.4%.
- Some owners reported severe battery drain after the 9.24 firmware update, dropping to about 3 days.
- Single-band GPS, not the multi-band GPS of pricier Garmins.
- No LTE, so calls and texts need a paired phone.
- Gorilla Glass 3 rather than sapphire at this price.
- No RTINGS instrumented review of the 3S was found, so long-term lab data is thin.

Battery life
Garmin’s headline for the 3S is up to 10 days in smartwatch mode, which falls to 5 days with the always-on display and rises to 20 days in battery saver; GPS-only runs up to 21 hours, all-systems up to 15 hours, and all-systems with music up to 8 hours. Real-world figures run shorter: Consumer Reports measured 140 hours (about 5.8 days) of typical use and 104 minutes to a full charge, while The Verge saw nine to 10 days with always-on off and four to six with it on. After the 9.24 firmware update, Garmin Forums owners reported estimated life slipping from roughly 5–7 days to about 3 days, with some 3S units draining 3% to 6% an hour and needing twice-daily charging. A later forum thread says the drain was mostly solved, and long-term owners describe normal quick-charging battery, so treat it as a real but not universal firmware-era problem. The battery is built in and not user-replaceable. Garmin’s manual lists the usual battery-saving steps: battery saver, a shorter display timeout, lower brightness, a static watch face, and turning off Bluetooth, activity tracking, notifications, HR broadcasting, wrist HR and automatic pulse-ox.
Sleep and recovery tracking
Sleep-stage accuracy is where the Venu 3S earns its criticism. Garmin Forums and Reddit threads describe the watch logging wake time as sleep, missing sleep duration by hours, and detecting naps that did not happen, with Body Battery described as unreliable as a result. A 2026 University of Salzburg polysomnography study, cited on Garmin’s own forum, put the Venu 3’s Elevate 5 sensor at 63.4% sleep-stage accuracy, sixth of seven devices and ahead only of Circul+. The study covered 15 devices, five nights and 20 people, and a forum reply notes it is small and that most wrist wearables score around 70%. Workout heart rate and GPS, by contrast, test well — a different thing from sleep staging.
GPS and workout accuracy
The 3S uses single-band GPS (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo) rather than the multi-band receivers on more expensive Garmins, and The Verge measured occasional offsets of about 0.1 mile early in testing. Against that, DC Rainmaker’s in-depth testing found the GPS performs nearly as well as Garmin’s multiband siblings and that heart-rate accuracy is very strong, and Live Science reported strong GPS and heart-rate results in running and gym tests. Consumer Reports rated fitness tracking excellent, with very good and accurate heart rate, pulse-ox and GPS, and it passed dunk and scratch tests.
What it costs
Garmin lists part number 010-02785-02 at $449.99. The Verge’s review page showed it at $400, about 11% off the $450 list, and Mashable reported the French Gray Venu 3S at $294 in August 2026, saving $155.99. No subscription is needed for the core Garmin Connect features, and Garmin Pay needs no extra hardware.
Is it worth it?
At the full $449.99 it is premium-priced: The Verge judged it expensive against the Apple Watch Series 9, Pixel Watch 2 and Galaxy Watch 6, and noted it overlaps with Garmin’s own Forerunner 265. On a discount like the reported $294 it improves a lot, because the hardware and health features do not change. Buy it for multi-day battery, a strong health stack and comfortable all-day wear; look to the Forerunner line first if GPS accuracy or running metrics matter most, and to a sapphire-covered watch if you are hard on glass.
Which model this is
This page covers the Garmin Venu 3S, part number 010-02785-02, ASIN B0CDC6Y617: the soft gold stainless steel bezel with French Gray case and silicone band. The Venu 3S is the 41 mm model; the 45 mm Venu 3 runs the same software with a bigger case, display and battery. Do not confuse it with the earlier Venu 2 and Venu 2 Plus, the Venu Sq 2, or the 2025 Venu 4 and Venu 4S — the Venu 4S is also 41 mm, so check the generation.
