Summary
A compact metal mini PC built around the older Ryzen 7 7735HS, with USB4, OCuLink, dual 2.5GbE and dual M.2 slots. Check the default fan curve before you buy — multiple reviewers found load noise too high out of the box, and it takes a BIOS tweak to quiet down.
Strengths
- Connectivity is its strongest suit: USB4, OCuLink, dual 2.5GbE, dual M.2 slots.
- 32 GB of RAM is included as standard, which many rivals make you pay extra for.
- The CNC-machined aluminum chassis is compact and feels premium.
- OCuLink gives it a second life with an external GPU, rare at this size.
- Everyday desktop work — office, browsing, media, code compilation — feels snappy.
- Emulation performance is good, and the unit idles at just 6.2 W.
Weaknesses
- The default fan curve is too aggressive; load noise is high out of the box until you tune the BIOS.
- The Ryzen 7 7735HS is a 2022 Zen 3+ chip with no NPU and no LPDDR5X support.
- The 32 GB of RAM is soldered, so 32 GB is a hard ceiling.
- The installed SSD is PCIe 3.0 even though both M.2 slots support PCIe 4.0 x4.
- Graphics performance is slower than average even for an integrated solution.
- Internal access is fiddly, with several screws and a fragile fan cable.

Noise and the default fan curve
Multiple reviewers found load noise too high out of the box. The system ships in Balanced mode (45W) by default, not Performance mode. Team Pandory measured out-of-the-box load noise as too high for a mini PC this size; setting 35W TDP and lowering the fan curve in BIOS made it much more acceptable. TechPowerUp measured ~30 dB(A) in light use and up to 49 dB(A) under heavy load, described as steady airflow sound, not sharp or whiny. Repasting did not change much in balanced auto mode. A GitHub thermal tuning guide notes many owners report large temperature drops by changing BIOS settings (especially disabling Processor Boost Aggressive), but warns that unofficial BIOS changes have broken NICs and bricked systems.
Performance and platform age
The 7735HS is a Rembrandt-HS refresh — essentially a rebadged Ryzen 7 6800HS from 2022, as a Reddit comparison thread noted. Notebookcheck measured Cinebench R23 Multi at 13,106 points and Single at 1,552; Geekbench 6.7 Multi 7,046, Single 1,957. The chip is comparable to the newer Core Ultra 5 125H or roughly 20-25% faster than the Core Ultra 7 256V in raw CPU performance, but performance-per-watt is nowhere near as high as latest Intel alternatives. Graphics performance is slower than average even for an integrated solution. No NPU means no local AI features like Copilot+.
Running costs and upkeep
The system idles at ~6.2 W (TechPowerUp measured an average of 6.2 W over 24 hours, peak 7.0 W, low 3.2 W), costing roughly $8-10/year in electricity at average US rates. The 120W power adapter is included. Storage can be expanded via the second M.2 slot; RAM cannot. The standard one-year limited warranty applies. GMKtec provides a fan settings adjustment guide for BIOS control.
Is it worth it?
At $589.99 (TechPowerUp, June 2026 sale) the K16 is reasonable if you specifically need OCuLink, dual 2.5GbE, or dual M.2 slots. At GMKtec’s $619.99 sale price (regular $899.99) or Notebookcheck’s $650 (April 2026), the value weakens — newer Ryzen 8000-series and Intel Core Ultra mini PCs with NPUs and better iGPUs sit at similar or lower prices. TechRadar reported a $679.99 launch price (March 2026) for 32 GB + 512 GB, with the 1 TB variant at $729.99. Ryan Mercer’s February 2026 review called it “that rare combo: compact, powerful, and practical” for creators and home office setups. If those specific ports are not required, newer platforms offer better efficiency and iGPU performance.
Which model this is
This page covers the GMKtec NucBox K16 with Ryzen 7 7735HS, 32 GB LPDDR5-6400, 512 GB PCIe 3.0 NVMe SSD. The US Amazon variant is ASIN B0GG9VDZN9. The chassis is identical to the GMKtec EVO-X1. A 1 TB variant exists but the soldered 32 GB memory and CPU remain the same. The “K” name has no bearing on the processor type inside.
