Battery life and charging
The 5,100 mAh battery is the largest ever in a Pixel. Tom’s Guide measured 13 hours 8 minutes in their battery test, nearly 2 hours longer than the Pixel 8a. Consumer Reports rated battery lifespan above-average at 40 hours. CNET found battery life “just OK” despite the large capacity, attributing it to the brighter screen and more powerful processor.
Charging is the weak point. The 23W wired speed is well below many competitors. GSMArena measured 25% in 15 minutes and 47% in 30 minutes, with a full charge taking about 1 hour 41 minutes. There is no charger in the box; Google sells a 45W USB-C charger separately.
Camera and display
The 48 MP main sensor with OIS and 13 MP ultrawide produce excellent photos with natural colors and strong low-light performance, driven by Google’s computational photography. DXOMARK scored the camera 128 overall, ranking it 8th in the High-End category. The display scored 155, 1st in High-End.
The 6.3-inch Actua OLED is bright and smooth at 120 Hz. GSMArena measured 1,248 nits manual and 1,930 nits auto mode. The flat design means the phone lies flat on a table without wobbling.
Performance and software
The Tensor G4 delivers flagship-level AI features and smooth everyday performance, though raw CPU/GPU power trails the latest Samsung and Apple chips. The phone ships with Android 15 and will receive 7 major Android upgrades. The vapor chamber, previously only on the 9 Pro and above, improves thermals.
Is it worth it?
At $499 (MSRP), the Pixel 9a is a strong value. It competes well against other midrange phones with its camera quality, battery life, software support, and IP68 rating. At $399–$449, it is an exceptional value. Above $499, buyers should consider stepping up to the Pixel 9 or flagship devices from other brands.
Google Store lists the Pixel 9a at $499. CNET’s review (November 2025) listed it at $399 at Best Buy and $469 at Walmart. Consumer Reports listed it at $400.
