Summary
Google’s second-generation premium wireless earbuds, built around the Tensor A1 chip for Pixel and Android phones. Check your ears before you buy: the fit decides how the sound and noise cancellation perform.
Strengths
- Noise cancellation is strong when the seal is good, and Google claims twice the cancellation of the original Pixel Buds Pro.
- Battery life reaches 8 hours per charge with ANC on and 30 hours with the case; five minutes of charging buys 1.5 hours.
- They are 27% smaller and 24% lighter than the original, with a twist-to-adjust fin for security.
- Google Assistant and Gemini integration is deep and responsive on Pixel phones.
- Auracast broadcasting arrived by firmware update after launch.
Weaknesses
- Fit and seal vary from ear to ear; some owners cannot get a tight seal with the included tips, and sound and ANC both suffer.
- There is no aptX or LDAC support, so Android listeners do not get high-bitrate audio.
- iOS users get basic Bluetooth only — no app, no EQ, no adaptive features.
- Gemini Live, multipoint, spatial audio and Clear Calling work only on Pixel phones.
- The sealed design means no user-replaceable battery, and long-term repairability is unknown.
- Owners report audio that randomly switches away from the buds on fully updated firmware, and playback that pauses and will not resume.

Fit and seal
Google says the design used 45 million ear data points, but fit is still the variable that decides everything. The twist-to-adjust stabilizer fin helps most owners find a secure fit, yet CNET’s reviewer moved to third-party ear tips and Tom’s Guide noted the integrated wing does not reach the inner-top part of the ear. In a Google Support thread, one owner reported a poor fit, non-existent noise cancellation and poor battery life together — a bad seal drags down the whole experience. If the included XS, S, M and L tips do not seal in your ears, budget for third-party tips before judging the sound.
Sound and noise cancellation
Reviewers with a good seal praise the cancellation: CNET found it comparable to AirPods Pro 2, and WIRED says it rivals Apple, Sony and Bose. SoundGuys measured about 80% attenuation. The warm signature carries slightly emphasized bass and balanced treble, and the five-band EQ in the Pixel Buds app lets you reshape it. Transparency mode splits reviewers — CNET called it natural with virtually no hiss, while PCMag noted a noticeable masking hiss. Microphones are the weak point: RTINGS rated them sub-par, PCMag heard Bluetooth artifacts and distant voice, and an owner reports muffled call audio on outdoor meetings.
Battery, charging and running costs
Google rates the buds at 8 hours per charge with ANC on and 12 hours with it off; SoundGuys measured 7 h 55 min with ANC on, close to the claim. The case stretches total listening to 30 hours with ANC on or 48 hours with it off, and five minutes of charging buys 1.5 hours of playback. The case itself charges over USB-C or Qi wireless charging. The buds are sealed with no user-replaceable battery. The one running cost is Gemini Live, which needs a paid Gemini Advanced subscription (Pixel 9 Pro buyers get one year free). For context, iFixit’s repair forum for the original Pixel Buds Pro shows squealing and battery-drain complaints, though nothing specific to the Pro 2 has surfaced.
Is it worth it?
Launch price was $229 in September 2024; WIRED listed $180 to $190 and PCMag’s review listed $168.99 the same month. By October 2025, CNET noted the buds generally sell for around $190. For a Pixel phone owner who wants tight Assistant and Gemini integration, this is reasonable value; PCMag points to JBL’s Live Beam 3 at $199.99 as a rival with more detailed audio and similar noise cancellation. The Pixel Buds 2a from 2025 cost $129 and keep the design with fewer features. Without a Pixel phone, the feature locks are harder to justify.
Which model this is
This page covers the Pixel Buds Pro 2 released in September 2024, sold in Porcelain, Hazel, Peony (Rose Quartz) and Wintergreen. The Amazon listing for the US variant is ASIN B0D79ND3N7. Do not mix them up with the original Pixel Buds Pro (2022), the Pixel Buds 2a (2025) or the Pixel Buds A-Series — the feature limits above apply to this model only.
