Summary
A 7-quart single-basket air fryer with 1700 W power, 12 presets and dishwasher-safe removable parts, built for family-size portions on a budget. Check the drawer before you buy: the seal fits tightly, and owners with limited hand strength have found it hard to pull out.
Strengths
- The 7-quart basket holds a family-size bag of frozen fries or about six large chicken thighs in one layer.
- Dehydrate is a real low-temperature mode, 90–170°F for up to 24 hours, rare at this price.
- Preheat and turn reminders can be toggled off, and owners find the controls easy to learn.
- Dishwasher-safe basket and tray keep cleanup simple.
- Exact-fit replacement crisper trays are cheap, so coating wear need not end the appliance.
- No filters, bags or subscriptions; running cost is electricity plus eventual nonstick wear.
Weaknesses
- No viewing window, food probe, dual zones, app or 450°F mode; the ceiling is 400°F.
- The drawer seal is tight, and the manual itself tells you to brace the body and pull straight back.
- The one-year US warranty is short, and a major out-of-warranty repair makes little sense against the price of a new unit.
- A heavily loaded basket browns faster near the rear edges; shaking or rearranging helps.
- Owner-review summaries mention audible fan noise and occasional early electrical or fan failures; no failure rate exists.
- Initial hot-plastic odor is possible for the first few uses, though a persistent burning or electrical smell is a different problem.

Capacity and cooking
The 7-quart basket is the reason to buy. A 2026 hands-on comparison fit a family-size bag of frozen fries and about six large chicken thighs in one layer, something compact 4-quart fryers cannot match. Cooking was mostly even, though a heavily loaded basket browned faster near the rear edges and needed a shake or rearrange. The large basket is also awkward to wash in a small sink.
The control range is broader than the price suggests. Normal programs run 170–400°F, Dehydrate reaches 90°F and runs as long as 24 hours, and Keep Warm holds 150–200°F for up to 8 hours. There is no instrumented temperature or energy test for the GAF716, so treat those figures as the manufacturer’s ratings.
Controls and cleanup
Preheat and turn-food reminders are optional and can be switched off, which owners and the hands-on reviewer both liked. The digital panel is large and readable. Removing the drawer pauses the program and returning it resumes, so you can shake the basket mid-cook without resetting.
The basket and crisper tray are dishwasher-safe, and the manual warns against metal or sharp utensils and abrasive cleaners. Keep roughly 4 inches of free space behind, beside and above the unit so airflow stays clear.
Running costs and repairs
The only mandatory operating cost is electricity. A simple ceiling scenario — running the 1700 W element at full rated draw for 30 minutes every day — works out to about 310.25 kWh a year, or roughly $56.81 at the July 2026 US residential average of 18.31 cents per kWh. Real use is usually cheaper because the element cycles after it reaches temperature and many sessions are shorter. There are no filters, bags or subscriptions.
Replace only what wears. Exact-fit crisper trays for the GAF716 and GAF798 ran about $15.99 at Walmart in September 2026. A Home Depot listing was far more expensive, around $59.49, which is poor value against the price of a new fryer. Walmart also sells a compatible wire rack for about $13.99. There is no official Gourmia replacement basket, fan, heater or control board for this model, so a major out-of-warranty failure means replacing the appliance.
Is it worth it?
At $65 or less the GAF716 is excellent value; $65–80 is good, $80–95 fair, and above about $95 weak. Exact-model sellers in October 2026 listed it at $65.35 (Wyzli) and $67.99 (SHOP.COM), and owners still describe $39–50 Costco-era pricing as a steal. Target lists a newer 6-quart Gourmia window model at $49.99 and an 8-quart model at $69.99, so the GAF716 only makes sense while its exact price stays near the mid-$60s.
The platform is dated — a 400°F ceiling, no window, no probes or app — but basic cooking ability is not the compromise. Buy it for inexpensive capacity and simple air frying, not for premium features.
Which model this is
This page covers the older no-window GAF716, first listed in 2020. Do not confuse it with the newer GAF734 and GAF798 Panorama window models, including the GAF7020B, or with the 8-quart Gourmia models; search and retailer pages often collapse these visually similar machines. The Amazon listing for this model is ASIN B08R6GZ2KP.
