Summary
A bare-bones 1,500 W fan-forced heater for one person or a small room, with two mechanical dials, 360-degree output and tip-over plus overheat protection. It is loud and heats a room unevenly, so buy it at the Walmart or Target end of the price ladder and not above about $50.
Strengths
- Mechanically simple: two dials, a wire element, a fan and a tip-over switch, with nothing digital to fail.
- No filter to clean or replace, so there are no consumables to buy.
- A 360° tip-over switch plus dual overheat protection, including a one-shot thermal fuse.
- Three-year limited warranty, longer than the one-year norm for the category.
- Heats the person or spot next to it quickly, even when the whole room stays uneven.
- The analog thermostat is fine-grained, needs no batteries and works with a smart plug.
Weaknesses
- Noise is the dominant complaint: Tom’s Guide measured 59.9 dB and called it the loudest heater in its test, and WIRED measured 55 dB.
- Room heating is uneven; Tom’s Guide got only a 2 to 5°F rise in a 15 x 10-foot room, and Wirecutter found the surround heating less even than hoped.
- The exhaust outlet runs warm to hot to the touch in Consumer Reports’ testing.
- The analog thermostat is imprecise, with none of the control of a digital one.
- Wear items like loose control knobs and a weakening bimetallic thermostat have no published parts channel.
- Some owners report a plastic smell on first use.

Heating and how it tests
Consumer Reports found it moderately fast at raising a standard room but slow at heating a seated person, with the exhaust outlet running warm to hot to the touch. Tom’s Guide measured only a 2 to 5°F rise in a 15 x 10-foot room on high and called the heat uneven. WIRED retested a 2026 unit and disagreed, describing fast, even heat from all sides and an effective whole-room heater, while Wirecutter found the surround heating less even and consistent than it hoped.
Noise
Noise is the dominant complaint. Tom’s Guide measured 59.9 dB and called it the loudest space heater in its test; WIRED measured 55 dB on the 2026 unit. Some owners still describe it as quiet or minimally noisy, which conflicts with the instruments, so plan for a background hum if you work or sleep near it.
Ownership and wear
Routine care is limited to wiping the body and lens area, since there is no filter to clean or replace. The manual asks for a firm, level surface at least 3 feet (0.9 m) from walls or combustibles, out of the way of children and pets. The thermal cut-off fuse is a one-time protection: if it ever trips, the heater does not restart. Owners report a few wear points with no published parts channel, including control knobs that loosen and stop latching and a bimetallic thermostat that weakens and stops holding temperature. These are individual reports, not a failure rate. Some owners also notice a plastic smell on first use. Honeywell covers the heater with a three-year limited warranty.
Running costs
The only recurring cost is electricity; there are no filters or consumables. Wirecutter puts a typical 1,500 W heater at just under $1.55 per 8-hour workday at average US electric rates for fall 2025, and Tom’s Guide measured this model drawing an average of 0.268 kWh.
Is it worth it?
Snapshots from 2026-10-08 put the black HHF360B at Target at $22.99 and the black HHF360V at Walmart at $31.89. Best Buy, Ace Hardware and the Honeywell Store cluster near $50, and WebstaurantStore lists it at $66.49. Around $23-33 it is strong value for a small room, where the 1,500/750 W output, dual overheat protection and three-year warranty outweigh the noise and uneven heat. At $34-50 it is fair, and past $60 it loses to Wirecutter’s $80 Vornado VH200 top pick, which heats faster and more evenly and carries a five-year warranty.
Which model this is
This page covers the dark slate-gray HHF360V, the manual-dial member of the HHF360 360° Surround Heater family; the white sibling is HHF360W and Target’s black one is HHF360B. Honeywell Store sells the same dark unit as HHF360VV3 with UPC 092926293604, and OfficeCrave lists it as HHF360VV2. The real manufacturer is Kaz USA, a Helen of Troy company, using the Honeywell name under license. Do not confuse it with the digital HHF370 series, which adds a ceramic element, oscillation, a timer and a remote. The listing this page is built from carries ASIN B00VV156LA.
