Summary

The OMEN 16 Slim (16-an0000 series) is a thinner 16-inch gaming laptop that pairs an Intel Core Ultra 9 285H and an RTX 5070 Laptop GPU with up to 32 GB of RAM, up to 2 TB of storage and a 240 Hz WQXGA display. Check the bundled power adapter before you buy: HP caps the system at about 110 W, and owners report the standard 150 W charger draining the battery under sustained gaming.

Strengths

  • Thinner and lighter than the standard OMEN 16 while keeping RTX 5070-class graphics.
  • Bright 16-inch WQXGA panel at up to 240 Hz with 500 nits and full sRGB coverage.
  • Two RAM slots and an upgradeable M.2 slot make storage and memory upgrades practical.
  • Owners describe it as quiet and cool in normal use with good battery life.
  • Full-size keyboard with a numeric keypad and 4-zone RGB lighting.
  • 1080p IR webcam with a privacy shutter.

Weaknesses

  • The RTX 5070 runs at a capped ceiling, about 80 W GPU and 110 W TPP, below thicker RTX 5070 laptops.
  • The standard 150 W adapter can drain the battery and drop frame rates under sustained gaming on at least one RTX 5070 SKU.
  • No Thunderbolt; the single USB-C is 10 Gbps.
  • No independent lab test of the exact Slim exists, so HP’s quiet and cool claims are unverified.
  • A new Slim has been reported with recurring GPU and CPU crashes and black screens.
  • Some units arrived with a single memory stick despite documentation implying two.

Power limits and the bundled adapter

HP caps the whole system at a claimed 110 W TPP in Unleashed Mode, split as 30 W for the CPU and 80 W for the GPU, while Notebookcheck, Tom’s Guide and Windows Central quote 105 W. An owner of a Slim measured roughly 80 W sustained GPU power. That is meaningfully below what a thicker RTX 5070 laptop can pull, so the Slim trades peak frame rates for a thinner, quieter body.

The sharper warning is the charger. At least one RTX 5070 Slim SKU (16-an0012TX) ships with a 150 W adapter, and an exact-model owner reports that under gaming the adapter cannot keep up: the battery drains and frame rates collapse, and HP support closed the case without supplying a higher-wattage unit after 45 days. This is one owner’s account rather than a measured defect rate, but it is the thing to confirm for your exact SKU.

Display, build and ports

HP says the Slim is 16% thinner than the standard OMEN 16, and it weighs from 5.35 lb (2.425 kg) in Shadow Black or Ceramic White. The top panel is a 16-inch WQXGA 2560 x 1600 IPS at up to 240 Hz with 500 nits and 100% sRGB; PCMag’s hands-on puts the same panel at 400 nits, and lower SKUs use 1920 x 1200 panels at 165 Hz or 144 Hz.

PCMag notes the single USB-C is 10 Gbps with no Thunderbolt 4, even though HP’s banner text mentions Thunderbolt generically. Independent instrumented testing of this exact Slim model is missing; PCMag’s piece is a launch hands-on, and the review on HP’s own site is first-party marketing content that even mis-states the CPU core count.

Upgrades, warranty and running costs

RAM and storage are owner-serviceable: two memory slots and one M.2 slot, per HP and PCMag. Warranty is a 1-year limited HP parts and labor plan per the Micro Center listing. There are no required subscriptions.

Micro Center lists the 16-an0001nr (Ultra 7 255H / RTX 5060 / 16 GB / 1 TB) at $1,979.99, down from a $2,199.99 original price, and carries the 16-an0003nr (Ultra 7 255H / RTX 5070 / 32 GB / 1 TB). Costco carries the 16-an0075cl (Ultra 9 285H / RTX 5070 / 32 GB / 1 TB) as a member offer. If you intend heavy sustained gaming and your SKU ships with the 150 W adapter, budget for a higher-wattage charger.

Which model this is

This page covers the OMEN 16 Slim, 16-an0000 series (Intel), released May 2025. Do not merge it with the standard OMEN 16 (16-am0000 and 16-ap0000), OMEN Max 16, OMEN Transcend 16 or the AMD Ryzen OMEN 16 models, which use a different chassis. Documented codes include 16-an0001nr, 16-an0003nr, 16-an0075cl, 16-an0027wm and 16-an0012TX, and they span several CPU, GPU, RAM and panel combinations.

The 2 TB storage option exists in HP’s series spec, but most documented US retail SKUs ship with 1 TB, so confirm the exact configuration you are buying. The listing for this configuration carries ASIN B0GX9XR167.

Is it worth it?

The Slim makes sense if portability and quiet operation matter more than peak frame rates: it is thinner, lighter and quieter in normal use than a full-size RTX 5070 laptop, with a bright high-refresh screen and easy upgrades. It is a poor fit if you want maximum RTX 5070 performance, because the power ceiling is capped and no third-party benchmark of the exact model exists to verify performance-per-dollar.

If you mostly play in Balanced or Eco modes, the trade is reasonable. If you game hard for hours, buy a thicker laptop or confirm a higher-wattage adapter for your exact SKU first.
