Summary
A 13.3-inch Windows ultraportable built around AMD Ryzen AI 300-series silicon, with a rigid recycled magnesium-aluminium chassis per HP. Check the exact SKU before you buy: the US listing, bg1059nr, is hard to price, and independent test units were different configurations.
Strengths
- Sub-1 kg build in a rigid recycled magnesium-aluminium chassis.
- Ryzen AI 7 350 performance ahead of most recent 13-inch rivals in Notebookcheck’s CPU rating.
- Quiet fan under normal load, with a crisp if shallow keyboard.
- Bright matte panel: 420.2 nits average, 442 nits max, full sRGB.
- Strong port set for the size, including HDMI 2.1 and two USB-A.
- Long WLAN runtime for the small battery: 10 h 23 min measured.
Weaknesses
- 43 Wh battery is small, and independent runtime figures vary widely with load.
- Factory color calibration is poor: grayscale error 6.5, color error 4.34.
- The panel is a basic 60 Hz IPS with no touch, OLED or HDR option.
- RAM is soldered, so memory cannot be upgraded after purchase.
- No Thunderbolt and no Wi-Fi 7 at any configuration.
- Both USB-C ports sit on the same side, and the clickpad is small.

Battery life
The 43 Wh pack is the compromise here. Notebookcheck measured 10 h 23 min of WLAN use, TechRadar’s battery test ran 8 h 51 min, and XDA reported 11 to 12 h in real-world use. HP’s own figures are higher again: up to 12 h 15 min mixed use and 15 h 45 min of video playback. Treat the ceiling as workload-dependent rather than a single number. HP’s claim of about 50% charge in 30 minutes was not verified by an independent charging curve.
Display and color
Notebookcheck measured the matte IPS panel at 420.2 nits average and 442 nits maximum, with 1473:1 contrast, 96.8% sRGB and 66.5% DCI-P3 coverage. It is bright enough for indoor work and the full sRGB coverage is fine for browsing and documents. The problems are calibration and capability: grayscale error shipped at 6.5 and color error at 4.34 with a white point near 7500K, both improvable to about 0.5 with a calibration pass. There is no touch, OLED or HDR option, the panel is 60 Hz, and XDA called mid-tones washed out and the picture dull.
Performance
The Ryzen AI 7 350 test unit scored 76.4 on Notebookcheck’s CPU rating and 14244 points in Cinebench R23 multi-core, ahead of several recent 13-inch laptops but behind the heavier Framework 13.5. XDA recorded PCMark 10 at 7691 on AC and Geekbench 6 at 2864 single-core and 12046 multi-core. The integrated Radeon 860M is adequate for office work and light gaming only; Notebookcheck calls the graphics weak. Sustained clocks are limited under load.
Repairs and upgrades
The bottom panel is held by four Philips screws with no hidden screws under the feet. The single M.2 2280 SSD and the Wi-Fi module are user-replaceable, but RAM is soldered, so buy as much memory as you expect to need. The battery is reachable once the base is open, though no bg1059nr replacement guide was found. Notebookcheck states the usual one-year US limited warranty applies.
What owners report
Owner feedback comes from HP’s Australia page for the closely related regional model bg1041AU, not from the exact bg1059nr. Owners there praise the weight and portability, responsiveness for office work, and battery life for a workday. They also report fan noise under even light load, slow boot times, and repeated surprise that the screen is not a touchscreen. One owner reported broken plastic key-hinge clips and an HP repair quote of AUD $530, while buying the parts for about $6 and fixing it himself. Others describe a reflective, low-depth display, one ghosting report and one inconsistent facial-recognition report. These are series-level signals, not a defect rate for the exact model.
Is it worth it?
You pay for sub-1 kg weight in a rigid chassis with a strong-for-its-class CPU. TechRadar and XDA cite a $949.99 starting price and a $1,399.99 top configuration; XDA breaks that out as $949 base, $1,129 for the Ryzen AI 7 with 512 GB, and $1,359 for the 32 GB / 1 TB / 2560x1600 version. Notebookcheck cites $1,250 for the Ryzen AI 7 350 / 16 GB configuration. Near the low $900s it is a reasonable ultralight if weight is the priority; around $1,100 to $1,250 the value is fair; by $1,359 to $1,400 the small battery and basic display are hard to justify. TechRadar’s live affiliate link for the exact bg1059nr listing showed $1,779.99 at HP US at review time, so confirm the exact SKU price, resolution, memory and warranty before ordering.
Which model this is
This page covers the HP OmniBook 7 Aero 13, a 13.3-inch ultralight in the 13-bg1xxx platform. The US listing is bg1059nr, HP product number CF7H2UA#ABA. Sibling US SKUs include bg1057nr and bg1002nr; regional SKUs include bg1041AU, bg1005AU, bg1005nb and bg1104AU. No reviewer tested bg1059nr itself, so the measured figures above come from other configurations of the same series. Don’t confuse it with the 17.3-inch OmniBook 7, OmniBook 5, OmniBook 3, or OmniBook Ultra and OmniBook X, which are different chassis.
