Summary

A thin 14-inch Windows 11 Copilot+ laptop for students, commuters and office users who want a light machine with Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1 and Wi-Fi 7. The 16 GB of memory is soldered and not upgradeable, so step up to the 24 GB option before ordering if you run virtual machines or heavy browser and AI workloads.

Strengths

  • Two Thunderbolt 4 ports sit on opposite sides, alongside USB-A and HDMI 2.1, so older accessories and fast docks can run at once.
  • At 2.87 lb (about 1.30 kg) it is easy to carry all day.
  • The Ultra 5 325 platform is efficient in the right workload: CHIP’s lab ran a European 325 / 59 Wh OLED unit for 17h18m of browsing and 27h20m of FHD video.
  • The rated 400-nit 1920 × 1200 100% sRGB IPS screen suits documents and spreadsheets.
  • Reviewers of the same chassis praised the key spacing, keyboard shape, hinge feel and portability.
  • HP publishes a Maintenance and Service Guide and user guide for the 14-ka0000 family.

Weaknesses

  • The 16 GB of onboard memory cannot be upgraded after purchase.
  • This base IPS / 59 Wh configuration is not the OLED / 70 Wh unit most English-language reviews tested.
  • There is no SD card slot and no Ethernet port.
  • Reviewers disagree on the speakers; some same-family tests found weak bass, while another praised the audio.
  • Windows Hello face recognition was inconsistent in one reviewer’s 2026 356H unit.
  • A custom-built order is assembled to order and can be hard to change once processing starts.

Which base configuration this is

HP sells several machines under the OmniBook X 14t-ka000 name, and the seller’s displayed line, not the family name, decides what arrives. This page covers the default Intel Core Ultra 5 325 with 16 GB of onboard memory, a 512 GB PCIe Gen5 SSD, the 1920 × 1200 IPS screen and the 59 Wh battery. The same configurator also lists a 24 GB Windows 11 Pro version, and higher-end units pair an Ultra X9 processor with Intel Arc B390 graphics and a 3K OLED touch display. If you order, read the memory, display and battery lines on the order summary before paying.

Display and battery caveats

The IPS panel here is not the 3K OLED touch screen that most English-language reviews used. Those reviews, including CHIP’s European test unit and the 356H / 3K OLED machines from 91mobiles and Gadgets 360, describe a different screen in the same chassis, so their color, brightness and audio findings do not transfer. CHIP measured its OLED unit as dim for its class and without HDR; this US screen is only rated at 400 nits. Battery capacity differs too: the 70 Wh option on higher configurations is not what ships with this 59 Wh base, so plan ownership costs around the smaller pack.

Parts, repairs and running costs

No cartridge, filter or scheduled consumable is needed to run the laptop. The included supply is a 65 W USB-C adapter; HP announced a 65 W GaN wall charger at a starting price of $59.99, planned for US availability in March 2026. The battery, SSD, Wi-Fi card, keyboard, panel and fan are fault or wear replacements rather than annual items, and no exact-base parts prices or service intervals are public. Battery-replenishment power is roughly 17.35 kWh a year, or about $3.47 a year at $0.20/kWh, under an illustrative 250-cycle scenario; that is a worked example, not a measured figure. No paid subscription is required for ordinary Windows use, and the McAfee and Xbox Game Pass offers on the HP page are trials.

Warranty, returns and support

HP provides 1 year of limited hardware warranty. US HP Store purchases can generally be returned within 30 days of delivery; HP’s policy for eligible consumer and business returns gives a prepaid label without a restocking fee, with exceptions for misuse or unauthorized resale. HP’s 14-ka0000 support site offers serial-based warranty lookup, drivers, setup instructions and the Maintenance and Service Guide. No public sample of HP repair turnaround, parts delays or acceptance rates for this exact C63GRAV_1 configuration was found.

Is it worth it?

HP Store direct pages in October 2026 showed $899.99 for the 16 GB / 512 GB / IPS / 59 Wh base against a stated $1,399.99 MSRP, and a 24 GB Windows 11 Pro version at $1,199.99. Treat those as indexed offers rather than a live cart: the $899.99 page returned 404 when opened, so confirm the figure at checkout. At $900 or less for a new 16 GB / 512 GB / IPS unit with a full US warranty, the value is good; $901–$1,050 is reasonable if the thin body and Thunderbolt 4 matter; above about $1,200 is hard to justify for this entry configuration without a specific compatibility need. Elsewhere, HP listed its OmniBook 5 14z-hm000 at $839.99 and the OLED 14z-hn000 at $1,159.99 in October 2026, and Apple’s US store showed the MacBook Air M5 13-inch from $1,299 in October 2026, above its March 2026 launch price of $1,099.
