Summary

A 17.3-inch Intel Copilot+ laptop for desk-bound productivity, with a bright FHD touchscreen, Thunderbolt 4 and a big 83 Wh battery. Know before you buy: the 16 GB of memory is soldered, so pick the storage and RAM you want up front.

Strengths

  • Big 17.3-inch FHD touchscreen with 400 nits and full sRGB coverage.
  • Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 7 and lots of ports, including three USB-A.
  • 83 Wh battery with USB-C PD fast charging.
  • 47 TOPS NPU makes it a Copilot+ PC for on-device AI features.
  • The SSD sits in a single M.2 slot and can be upgraded later.
  • Aluminum lid and a backlit keyboard with a numpad.

Weaknesses

  • 16 GB of memory is soldered to the board and cannot be upgraded.
  • The 512 GB SSD is small for a laptop this size, and there is no second storage slot.
  • The display is FHD at 60 Hz, below the QHD and 144 Hz panels some 17-inch rivals use.
  • Arc 140V is integrated graphics; the 17-dd0057nr variant adds an RTX 4050.
  • No Ethernet port and no SD card reader.
  • No independent instrumented test of this exact model exists, so real-world battery and thermals are unverified.

Battery life and power

HP rates the Intel OmniBook X line at up to 22 hours, but nobody has independently verified that figure for this 17-inch Intel model. The 14-inch Snapdragon version hit about 18 hours in PCWorld’s video playback test, and Consumer Reports measured 15.75 hours of web browsing and 19 hours of video on a different 16-inch Intel model, so treat 22 hours as an optimistic ceiling. Owner reports from other OmniBook X variants are far lower: one AMD owner sees about 5 hours of light use, and an HP Support Community user reports 5–6 hours against an advertised 14 or more. The 83 Wh battery charges over USB-C at 65 W or 100 W and is not user-replaceable.

What no review covers

There is no credible instrumented review of the 17-dd0047nr from outlets like RTINGS, Wirecutter, Tom’s Guide, CNET, PCMag or Laptop Mag. The OmniBook X reviews that exist cover the 14-inch Snapdragon X Elite model, a different processor and chassis; the praise there for battery and keyboard and the complaint about a slow SSD do not transfer directly. Consumer Reports tested a 16-inch Intel model with a newer processor and found good battery life, but its member surveys also flag HP laptops at this price for above-typical battery swelling and internal hardware faults. No exact-model failure data exists.

Memory, storage and configuration

The 16 GB of LPDDR5x-8533 memory is soldered as 2x8 GB, so buy the configuration you want now. The 512 GB PCIe Gen4 SSD is the only drive; the single M.2 slot is user-accessible, so a storage upgrade is possible, but there is no second slot. The 17-dd0057nr sibling steps up to an RTX 4050 and a 1 TB SSD if you need more graphics and space.

Is it worth it?

Value is hard to judge because HP does not publish an easily fetched list price and no independent test backs the headline numbers. Third-party listings put the 17-dd0047nr around $899.99 at laptopfinder and the 256V/16 GB/512 GB configuration near $1,029.00 at LaptopMedia. At those figures you are paying for the large touch screen, Wi-Fi 7, Thunderbolt 4 and the 83 Wh battery, not for upgradeable memory. If you need discrete graphics or more storage, the RTX 4050 17-dd0057nr is the better fit. HP also runs store promotions on the line, often as percentage-off codes.

Which model this is

This page covers the OmniBook X 17-dd0047nr (product number B88A2UA#ABA), the Intel Core Ultra 7 256V model with Arc 140V graphics. It sits in the 17-dd0xxx family; the 17-dd0057nr is a separate configuration with an RTX 4050 and 1 TB SSD. Do not confuse it with the 17t-dd000 CTO builds, the OmniBook 7 17-dc0xxx line, the 14-inch and 16-inch OmniBook X models, or the 2026 17t-de000 with Intel Panther Lake.
