Summary

A light wired headset for PlayStation and PC with 50 mm drivers, 90° rotating earcups and a swivel-to-mute microphone, sold at a budget price. Check before you buy: it is analog only over a 3.5 mm cable, the mic does not detach, and the all-plastic build feels fragile.

Strengths

  • Sound quality beats its price class, per Wirecutter and Tom’s Guide.
  • Comfortable for long sessions, including for glasses wearers.
  • Light at 275 g, with 90° rotating earcups and numbered headband notches.
  • Plug-and-play on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox and Switch over the 3.5 mm jack.
  • Swivel-to-mute microphone and an onboard volume dial.
  • Wired analog means no battery, dongle or software to manage.

Weaknesses

  • The all-plastic frame and loose swivel joints feel fragile; PC Gamer fears they could snap.
  • The microphone divides reviewers: Wirecutter calls it excellent, but Tom’s Guide calls it quiet, PC Gamer distant and RTINGS mediocre for calls.
  • Passive noise isolation is poor, and the headset can slip off during movement.
  • The mic boom is not detachable, and it will not work with some newer smartphones.
  • The leatherette pads are thin and may wear or tear over time.
  • The console variant has no processing or customization.

Sound and microphone

RTINGS measured an excited, V-shaped response with boomy bass, bright sibilants and slightly veiled dialogue rather than neutral tuning, though it still called the headset decent for wired gaming with negligible lag. The microphone is the biggest disagreement: Wirecutter rates it excellent and SoundGuys calls it more than good enough for online calls, while Tom’s Guide finds it quiet and cumbersome, PC Gamer a little distant, and RTINGS mediocre for phone calls. Treat mic quality as a unit-and-context variable, not a settled fact.

Build, fit and isolation

The whole frame is plastic, and PC Gamer warns the rotating earcups attach at the thinnest part of the headband and feel loose enough to break; it judged the headset too much of a risk to recommend. Tom’s Guide also calls the build flimsy, and RTINGS places it below the Cloud Alpha and Cloud II tier. The fit stays comfortable for hours and works with glasses, though the numbered headband notches can slip under light force and the headset can fall off during movement. Isolation is poor, so you will hear the room.

Warranty and upkeep

The HyperX US page carries a 30-day hassle-free return and a warranty section, but the wired variant’s warranty length was not verifiable; only the wireless model is documented at 2 years. A wired analog headset needs no battery, firmware or subscription, so care of the swivel joint and the cable is the main long-term concern. Unlike the PC variant, the console model includes no DTS Headphone:X code.

Is it worth it?

At the $49.99 HyperX price it is a solid budget pick for sound and comfort, the more so on sale; PC Gamer saw the PC variant near $46, and Tom’s Guide recorded $49.99 at Best Buy for this white PlayStation variant in February 2024. Up near $60 it is harder to justify against better-built or wireless alternatives. The plastic build and the split verdict on the microphone are the trade-offs to accept.

Which model this is

This page covers the Cloud Stinger 2 Wired Gaming Headset for PlayStation, HyperX part 75X29AA in white, announced in August 2023. It is the PlayStation-badged variant of the Cloud Stinger 2 wired family; the black PC version is part 519T1AA, with the same 50 mm drivers, 10 Hz – 28 kHz response, 32 Ω impedance and 3.5 mm connection, but a longer 2 m cable and a 15 cm splitter.

It is not the Cloud Stinger 2 Wireless, the CloudX Stinger 2 for Xbox (75X28AA), or the original Cloud Stinger.
