Summary
A budget sport-first true wireless earbud with an IP68 rating, 48-hour total battery and Bluetooth 5.3 multipoint, aimed at runners and gym-goers who want a secure fit without spending much. Check the case before buying: it is only IPX2-rated and large enough that it rarely fits a trouser pocket.
Strengths
- Secure fit across running, cycling, strength training and yoga in Tom’s Guide’s multi-week test.
- IP68 rating covers sweat, dirt and rain at a budget price.
- 48 hours of total battery with ANC off, including 36 hours from the case.
- A 10-minute charge adds 4 hours of playtime.
- Bluetooth 5.3 multipoint switched cleanly between a laptop and a phone with no dropouts on runs.
- The wing enhancer did not cause irritation over extended wear.
Weaknesses
- Noise cancelling takes the edge off trains and traffic but is far from the near-silence of premium earbuds.
- Ambient mode lets in too little sound to hear passing cars well and does not filter wind.
- Sound is good for the price but lacks upper-range clarity and can feel compressed at high volume.
- Volume was not always loud enough outdoors even with the outdoor run mode on.
- Touch controls were unreliable with gloves or sweaty fingers.
- The case is large and only IPX2-rated, so it is not pocket-friendly and resists less water than the earbuds.

Fit and comfort
Tom’s Guide tested the Endurance Race 2 over several weeks of running, cycling, strength training and yoga and found the fit secure in every session. The twistlock wing enhancer held the earbuds in place without irritating the ear during extended wear. JBL rates the earbuds IP68, meaning they survive dust and submersion deeper than 1 meter in fresh and sea water, though JBL does not recommend swimming in them despite the rating.
Battery, charging and water resistance
JBL rates the earbuds for 12 hours with ANC off and 10 hours with it on, with the case adding 36 hours for a 48-hour total when ANC is off; Tom’s Guide confirmed 10 hours with ANC on and 12 hours off in its own testing. A 10-minute USB-C charge gives 4 hours of playtime, and a full recharge takes about 2 hours. The case is the weak point for water: it is rated only IPX2, so keep it out of the rain rather than relying on the earbuds’ IP68.
Sound, calls and controls
Sound is good for the price but short on upper-range clarity, and the reviewer had to raise the bass in the JBL Headphones EQ. Volume was not always loud enough during outdoor workouts even with the outdoor run mode engaged. Noise cancelling reduces trains and traffic but never approaches the near-silence of premium models, and Ambient mode lets through too little sound to hear passing cars and does not filter wind. Call quality is clear if a little hollow, with traffic noise staying out of the way. Four beamforming microphones handle the calls.
Controls are grouped by function instead of letting you assign each gesture, so you cannot control ambient, volume and playback independently at the same time. Tom’s Guide found the touch panels unreliable with gloves or sweaty fingers. Sport modes have to be turned on in the JBL Headphones app, and no earbud gesture can toggle them; CNET notes six preset sport modes that adjust noise cancelling and EQ for different workouts.
Price and value
Prices move a lot. JBL’s US store lists the Endurance Race 2 at $67.00, the March 2025 US launch price was $79.95, and Tom’s Guide has tracked a $49.95 deal price; CNET reported Best Buy selling the purple variant for $50 in a one-day deal in January 2026. At $50 or less it is strong value for sport use, at $50–$70 it is good, at $70–$80 it is fair because sound and noise cancelling trail premium options, and above $80 it is weak next to the Bose QC Earbuds, Beats Powerbeats Pro 2 and Jabra Elite 8 Active. JBL Puerto Rico lists it at $89.95 and JBL Singapore at $118.00.
