Summary
A 6 L top-fill hybrid ultrasonic-and-steam humidifier for large rooms, with app control and an auto mode that genuinely holds a humidity target. Check the running cost and the distilled-water habit before buying: the steam side is the most expensive way to run it.
Strengths
- Auto mode holds a target: Wirecutter kept a room within 5% of a 60% target for three days.
- Raises humidity fast: TechGearLab measured a 25% RH rise in one hour and Wirecutter about 24% in two.
- Three independent labs tested it; RTINGS measured 30% to 60% RH in 36 minutes.
- 6 L top-fill tank with a wide opening that Wirecutter found easier to clean than most.
- VeSync app control, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, a 12-hour timer and an aroma box.
- 2-year limited warranty with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Weaknesses
- Measured runtime is far below the 50-hour claim: 17 hours (RTINGS) and 20.6 hours at full output (TechGearLab).
- Warm-mist noise measured 44.2 dB average, and sleep mode turns off the display but not the noise.
- RTINGS scored cleaning 4.5/10, citing tight hand and brush clearances around the many base parts.
- Running the boiler costs about $163.53 a year for roughly a quarter of use, and distilled water is recommended.
- The base and water-level sensor cannot be self-serviced, and the warm mist is a documented burn hazard.
- The 753 ft² figure is the top of a 430–753 ft² range, and no lab published the room volume behind it.

Humidity control
Wirecutter made it a top pick and reports about a 24% relative-humidity rise in a small room over two hours on high, and that in auto mode set to 60% it held the room within 5% of target for three consecutive days. TechGearLab, which bought and tested it, scored humidification 9.5/10 and measured a 25% rise in one hour with both modes at full power. RTINGS measured 30% to 60% in 36 minutes and a tested rate of 9.0 LPD in warm-mist mode. The differentiator is that the humidistat regulates rather than only runs.
Runtime and noise
The box claims do not survive testing. Fifty hours on low is a lowest-setting figure; RTINGS measured 17 hours and TechGearLab measured 20.6 hours at full output, needing about 36 hours with cool mist alone to approach the claim. Under 28 dB is a low cool-mist floor, not a warm-mist or sleep-mode figure: RTINGS measured 32.0 dBA at the highest cool-mist setting and TechGearLab measured 44.2 dB average, noting that steam mode becomes a continuous low hiss and that sleep mode changes only the display. In auto mode the unit mists for 15 seconds after it turns on even if the target is already met, and the manual notes about a 15-minute warm-up before warm mist appears.
Cleaning and running costs
This is where the reviews genuinely disagree, and the labs deserve more weight than the narrative reviews. Wirecutter praises the wide top opening and smooth tank edges, and one long-term user calls the tank dishwasher safe. RTINGS scored cleaning 4.5/10, its lowest sub-score, and found spots where a hand or brush will not fit. TechGearLab scored 6.0/10 and located the problem in the base’s many small parts and the heating plate’s small channels, which the manual says to soak in vinegar. Wirecutter still requires weekly disassembly, rinsing and air-drying, and expects chalky limescale on the plastic.
Running cost is the quiet expense. TechGearLab estimates $163.53 a year for roughly a quarter of the year, because hybrid mode burns power like an electric kettle; ultrasonic-only is about ten times cheaper to run, but the saving is largely cancelled by needing distilled or demineralized water. Levoit recommends distilled water and a monthly water-filter-sponge replacement, and Levoit UK puts pad lifetimes at 2–4 weeks for the absorption pad and about one month for the mineral pad. Per-item prices for the pads and sponges were not published on the pages read.
Water, safety and owner reports
The manual warns that the mist and heating element get hot, that hands and face should stay away from the nozzles, and that the base and water-level sensor must not be opened for self-service. Wirecutter notes the Mayo Clinic recommends against warm-mist humidifiers in homes with children and cautions against essential oils, which belong on the aroma pad only. Owners confirm the distilled-water burden and treat filtered water as the compromise.
One owner reports a Blueair air purifier reading the air as highly polluted and running flat out whenever the humidifier is on, which the thread attributes to particle sensors reacting to humidity and to aerosolized minerals. An RTINGS reader who never got past 30% RH in a 600 sq ft apartment was buying about 10 gallons of distilled water a week.
Is it worth it?
Levoit’s US store and the VeSync store both listed the LV600S at $109.99 on 2026-10-04, and at that price it is defensible: it is Wirecutter’s top pick, has three independent lab data sets, and is one of the few ultrasonic humidifiers whose humidistat regulates within a narrow band over days. The same price carries the highest measured running cost in TechGearLab’s table at $163.53 a year for a quarter of use, and RTINGS’ weakest cleaning score at 4.5/10. Buyers who will run warm mist daily should weigh the boiler cost; buyers in a leaky or very large space should weigh the 17-hour measured runtime.
Below this price the smaller OasisMist 450S and Classic 300S are rated better on cleaning and operating cost, and one three-way comparison was not convinced the premium over the app-equipped LV600HH was worth it. Above it, the case weakens, and a constant-use buyer should look at an evaporative unit instead.
Which model this is
This page covers the Levoit LV600S Smart Hybrid Ultrasonic Humidifier, series LV600S, model line LUH-A602S, US model LUH-A602S-WUS, sold in a single white colorway. The seed is ASIN B095KGXPW5. The names “Smart Warm and Cool Mist” and “Smart Hybrid Ultrasonic” refer to the same hardware. Don’t merge it with the older non-smart LV600HH, which uses different mist-output, dimension and noise figures, or with the OasisMist, Classic 300S, NeoClassic, Superior 6000S and Sprout lines, which are separate models.
