Summary

A pet-first smart air purifier built around low maintenance: a scraper wipes hair off the washable pre-filter into a tray once a day, and the U-shaped inlet pulls floating fur toward the intake. RTINGS measured 141 CFM and recommends it for rooms up to about 220 ft² — check your room size before you buy.

Strengths

  • The auto-clean scraper keeps hair off the pre-filter, and an r/AirPurifiers owner confirms it works well in daily use.
  • The U-shaped inlet captures floating pet hair near the intake instead of leaving it to settle around the room.
  • Three-stage filtration pairs a particle filter with 140 g of activated carbon aimed at pet odors.
  • Dual PM2.5 and TVOC sensors drive an Auto Plus Mode that adjusts fan speed on its own.
  • Sleep mode runs at 21 dB or lower, with 99.97% particle capture and zero ozone per Levoit’s lab-tested claim.
  • A 2-year warranty and HSA/FSA eligibility are genuine pluses.

Weaknesses

  • RTINGS lists the unit as not HEPA-certified, despite Levoit copy claiming 99.97% capture at 0.3 microns.
  • Measured 141 CFM is not enough for larger open-concept spaces, and the 1,100 ft² marketing figure is one air change per hour.
  • A May 2024 BBB complaint and a 2024 FTC action over Vital-series HEPA claims sit over this filter line.
  • Sleep mode and auto-clean frequency live only in the VeSync app; the unit’s own panel has neither.
  • At 15.65 lb it is too large for most nightstands and dressers, per RTINGS.
  • Brand-level Trustpilot feedback is poor, with recurring customer-service and warranty complaints.

Room coverage and cleaning performance

RTINGS.com is the only established instrumented test found for this exact model. It tested the Vital Pet Pro in July 2026 and scored it 7.4/10, with 8.3 for Pets, 6.9 for Bedroom and 7.2 for Particle Filtration. The measured PM1.0 CADR is 239 m³/hr (141 CFM), and RTINGS recommends it for rooms up to 220 ft² at max speed.

The honest coverage rating is 229 ft² at 4.8 air changes per hour. Levoit’s 1,100 ft² figure is a one-air-change-per-hour number, and Reddit threads on Levoit models for pet owners treat it as a marketing figure rather than a performance rating.

RTINGS also notes the unit is quieter at top fan speeds than the Winix 5530, while offering the pet inlet and auto-clean the Winix lacks. The older Vital 200S delivers stronger particle filtration and broader coverage than the Pet Pro, at the cost of a larger footprint.

Pet hair, odors and auto-clean

The scraper is the main event. Once a day by default — frequency adjustable in the VeSync app — it wipes hair and dust off the washable pre-filter into a removable tray you empty. One r/AirPurifiers owner: “I have it. Love it. The auto cleaner works well.”

The U-shaped inlet is designed to capture 99% of floating pet hair within 1.4 ft of the intake, tested with 1-2 mg of cat fur. That is not a whole-room hair claim; Levoit’s figure applies only near the intake.

For odors, Levoit’s chamber test claims up to 70% reduction in one hour using isovaleric acid, with “individual results may vary.” The TVOC sensor feeds Auto Plus Mode, which raises fan speed when odors or particles spike. No independent test has checked whether Auto Plus Mode improves real-world odor control.

Filters and running costs

Running costs are modest and mostly the filter. The pre-filter is washable; the main filter is a genuine Levoit part at $49.99 (Levoit, 2026), recommended every 6-8 months — the product FAQ says six months depending on usage and environment. Call it $75-100 a year. Power draw is 39 W, and no tested annual electricity figure exists for this model.

No exact-model repairability information exists. Brand-level Trustpilot complaints include reports of unavailable spare parts — a caution signal, not model-specific evidence.

Is it worth it?

Levoit.com lists a $199.99 regular price, and Home Depot and the VeSync store list $199.99 as well; Walmart showed a $159.99 sale price in October 2026 search results. At $199.99 it is a reasonable choice for a pet owner in a 200-230 ft² room who will use the auto-clean daily. At $159.99 it is a good buy for that same buyer.

Buyers without pets, or anyone in a larger space, should look at Levoit’s own Core 400S-P and Vital 200S-P: RTINGS rates them higher on raw cleaning performance, and both have deeper independent-test histories. The missing HEPA certification and the 2024 claims controversy are the honest caveats at any price.

Which model this is

This page covers the Levoit Vital Pet Pro Smart Air Purifier, Home Depot model# HEAPAPLVSUS0189Y, launched in May 2026. Do not confuse it with the Vital 200S-P, Vital 100S-P, Core 400S-P or Core P350-P; those are different models with different filtration and feature sets.

Note the US/Singapore spec discrepancy: the Levoit Singapore page lists 5.3 kg (32.8 × 20.5 × 45.8 cm) against the US 7.1 kg (39.6 × 27.1 × 54.9 cm). The US figures on this page come from Levoit’s US product page.

The US Amazon listing is ASIN B0GXKSC38S.
