Summary

A 2.7-lb, 16-inch Windows ultralight built around Intel’s Lunar Lake Core Ultra 9 288V, 32GB of soldered memory, two 1TB SSDs and a 77 Wh battery. Every independent test covers a lower-tier sibling chip, so treat the measured numbers here as close approximations, and confirm that the exact SKU is genuinely new and warrantied, since B&H lists it as no longer available.

Strengths

  • Measured battery life runs roughly 17 to 21 hours in independent tests of the sibling chips.
  • Notebookcheck measured a 442-nit panel with 2600:1 contrast and sub-1 dE color accuracy after a white-point tweak.
  • At about 2.7 lbs with a magnesium chassis and a MIL-STD-810H rating, weight for a 16-inch screen is the main draw.
  • Wi-Fi 7 throughput beat the class average in testing, at about 2340 MBit/s on 6 GHz.
  • Two Gen4 NVMe slots, and the battery and SSD come out with standard household tools.
  • Ports cover the basics without dongles: two USB-A, two USB4/Thunderbolt 4 and HDMI 2.1.

Weaknesses

  • Keyboard travel is short; Trusted Reviews wanted more depth, and Notebookcheck notes a slightly bendy case.
  • Pixel response is slow at 30 ms black-to-white and 47 ms grey-to-grey, which shows as motion blur.
  • Multi-core performance sits below Arrow Lake and AMD Ryzen AI 300 rivals, and the Arc 140V iGPU trails the older RTX 3050.
  • Speakers are thin and harsh at higher volume, per Trusted Reviews.
  • The exact AUG9U1 has no independent test, and B&H lists it as no longer available, so new stock is uncertain.
  • Owners report real-world battery well under the review numbers; one 32GB/2TB owner saw about 6 hours.

Battery life and charging

LG rates the 77 Wh battery at up to 25.5 hours of video playback, a manufacturer claim built on offline FHD playback at 150 nits. Independent tests of the sibling chips land lower but still strong: Notebookcheck’s 256V unit was rated for about 20 hours of endurance, Trusted Reviews measured 21 hours 10 minutes in PCMark 10 at 150 nits, and Consumer Reports measured 20.25 hours of web browsing and 16.75 hours of 4K video on the AUG4U1. With the included 65W USB-C adapter, Trusted Reviews charged to 50% in 42 minutes and to full in 108 minutes.

Owner reports are less glowing, and the gap is the thing to watch. A 2025 16-inch IPS 32GB/2TB owner reported about 6 hours of office and web use at 90% screen brightness, and a 258V Gram 16 owner says they are lucky to hit 10 hours once and usually see 6-8 hours with many browser tabs. Those are uncontrolled workloads, not an average, but they show how much brightness, refresh rate and background apps move the result.

Display, keyboard and build

Notebookcheck measured 442 nits peak and 405.9 nits average, 2600:1 contrast and Calman dE 0.84 after calibration, though the panel ships at a D75 white point that needs a one-setting change in LG’s MyGram app. Trusted Reviews measured 419.5 nits SDR peak and 1380:1 contrast, with 100% sRGB and 98% DCI-P3. The matte finish suits office work; the weak point is motion, with pixel response of 30 ms black-to-white and 47 ms grey-to-grey.

The keyboard is stable for such a thin body, but travel is short, and the full-size layout’s numeric keypad pushes the main keys off center for some typists. Notebookcheck calls the case slightly bendy, while a 258V owner reports no discernible flex. An exact 288V reviewer, who received the laptop through an LG giveaway, described lid bounce while typing and an undersized touchpad.

Performance, thermals and software

Sibling tests give a fair picture. Cinebench R23 came in at 10530 multi and 1901 single on Notebookcheck’s 256V unit, and 9583 multi and 1927 single on Trusted Reviews’ 258V unit; Geekbench 6 was 2756 single and 10939 multi; 3DMark Time Spy hit 4262. Storage is quick, at 7133.66 MB/s read and 6487.43 MB/s write. Notebookcheck saw slight thermal throttling only under extreme sustained load, and the Arc 140V graphics sit below the previous generation’s RTX 3050. Multi-core work is behind Arrow Lake and AMD Ryzen AI 300 machines, which still carry hyperthreading that Lunar Lake dropped. Notebookcheck’s cross-reference puts the 288V essentially level with the 256V in the tested gram, so those figures transfer closely.

Software is Windows 11 Home with LG’s update, gram Link and gram AI tools. Microsoft 365 is a 30-day trial, not a subscription, and LG’s gram chat Cloud is free for the first year after registration before an optional paid plan whose price is not published. One giveaway reviewer said a clean Windows reinstall cut idle load but temporarily removed LG’s AI cooling controls, so do not wipe the machine on that basis alone.

Repairs, parts and running costs

The US warranty is 1 year parts and labor, with 12 months of phone tech support, and LG’s support page carries owner manuals updated in late 2025 and early 2026. Repairability is above average for an ultralight: plastic-free packaging, disassembly with standard household tools (four Phillips screws under the feet), a user-replaceable battery and SSD, and a second NVMe slot. Memory is not upgradeable, and both drive slots are already filled, so expanding storage means replacing a drive rather than adding one.

Routine running cost is small. An illustrative figure, not a measured average, is about $4.53 a year assuming 250 complete 77 Wh recharges, 85% wall-to-battery efficiency and $0.20/kWh. The 65W USB-C adapter ships in the box; a third-party iTEKIRO 65W replacement for this exact SKU was listed at $38.99 in October 2026 and was sold out at check, and a UGREEN Nexode 65W charger was listed at $27.99 on sale. For storage, a general-purpose Samsung 990 EVO Plus 1TB was listed at $239.99 at Best Buy in October 2026, though its fit and boot support in this chassis are unverified. No recurring parts, ink or mandatory subscription apply.

Is it worth it?

Value depends on the configuration. The 16GB/1TB AUG4U1 class is the sweet spot: Consumer Reports lists it at $1,399.99, and at that money a sub-2.8-lb 16-inch with 17-20 hour measured battery is a strong buy. At the AUG9U1’s level the case rests on the 1.2 kg chassis, the 77 Wh battery and the 32GB/2TB combination, since the same money buys more powerful machines.

Pricing context by store and date: LG’s February 2025 launch put the whole 16Z90TS series at $1,849-$2,399 depending on SKU; Trusted Reviews lists a US RRP of $2,299.99 for the 258V/32GB/1TB configuration, Notebookcheck referenced a 258V/32GB/2TB listing at $2,184.99 and reported the Ultra 9 version at LG’s US store for $2,099.99 in April 2025, and LaptopMedia’s series data runs from $1,399.99 up to $2,499.99. B&H now shows the exact SKU as no longer available, so confirm seller, delivery date, warranty coverage and return window before paying. Newer Windows alternatives were also listed in October 2026: an ASUS Zenbook S16 with Ryzen AI 9 465 and 32GB/1TB at $1,799.99, an older Ryzen AI 9 365 24GB/1TB at $1,699.99, and a 15-inch MacBook Air M5 starting at $1,299.

Which model this is

This page covers the 16Z90TS-G.AUG9U1, the Core Ultra 9 288V configuration with 32GB and 2TB (2x1TB) in Metal Gray. Sibling SKUs share the chassis but not the chip: the AUG7U1 uses a Core Ultra 7 258V and the AUG4U1 a Core Ultra 7 256V with 16GB/1TB. Do not confuse it with the 2024 gram Pro 16 (16Z90SP), the 2025 gram Pro 16 2-in-1 (16T90TP), the 2026 gram Pro 16 (16Z90TR) or the non-Pro gram 16 (16Z90TL); WIRED’s review titled LG Gram Pro 16 (2025) covers the 16T90TP 2-in-1, not this clamshell.
