Summary
A 3 L plug-in smart cat fountain whose real feature is hydration tracking: the app records how much and when your pet drinks, and a stainless tray lifts off the powered base for cleaning. Check two things before buying: this listing is the corded PLWF106, not the cordless PLWF116, and PETLIBRO’s care guidance disagrees with the product’s own manual.
Strengths
- Hydration tracking turns the fountain into a record: intake, history, trends and reminders are the reason to pay more.
- Cleaning is simple: the reservoir lifts off the powered base, and the stainless tray is dishwasher-safe.
- Family-level hands-on reviews describe very quiet operation; PETLIBRO markets about 23 dB.
- Dual-band Wi-Fi at 2.4 and 5 GHz is broader than many smart fountains offer.
- Genuine replacement filters are easy to find and explicitly compatible with this model.
- The 24-month warranty is generous for the category.
Weaknesses
- Only the drinking tray is stainless; the reservoir and body are ABS plastic.
- Tracking follows one pet at a time, and individual multi-cat attribution needs the RFID model.
- Filter guidance conflicts: the product page says every two weeks, the exact-model manual says weekly.
- Cleaning guidance conflicts too: marketing calls the tray dishwasher-safe, the manual says no fountain part belongs in a dishwasher.
- Owners report tank-detection and flow problems after cleaning, plus Wi-Fi disconnect and rebind friction.
- “Pump-free” is marketing; the exact manual still references a water-pump cover and drive parts.

Problems owners report
- Chewy reviewers describe fountains that stop sensing the reservoir after cleaning and units that stop circulating until they are reopened and restarted; one said flow stopped about a third of the time. These are individual reports, not a failure rate.
- One reviewer flagged that when circulation stops, the accessible top tray can run dry while water remains in the closed reservoir, which matters for unattended use.
- Wi-Fi disconnects even near the router, plus rebind friction, appear in Dockstream 2 threads; most identifiable reports concern the cordless PLWF116, so treat this as platform caution.
- One owner said the fountain occasionally logged a drinking event while the cat was elsewhere, so intake readings are not reliable event by event.
- Support experiences are mixed: one owner waited out an app-update fix but called communication poor, and another described a ticket unresolved for weeks.
- A multi-cat home loses much of the point, because this model cannot tell which pet drank.
Filtration, cleaning and running costs
Four layers sit between the reservoir and the bowl. PETLIBRO’s page calls for a new filter every two weeks for one pet and more often with several, while the exact-model manual says weekly. A genuine 8-pack is $26.99 (PETLIBRO, October 2026); at two weeks that is about $88 a year, and the manual’s weekly instruction works out near $175, so the range depends on which guidance you follow. Soak each new filter five minutes and rinse it first. Slow flow usually means a clogged filter, debris or dirty drive parts. The stainless tray can collect saliva and foam, and one owner reported faster fouling than the first-generation fountain.
The app and Wi-Fi
The app is the premium: it logs intake, charts trends and sends refill and maintenance reminders, and it depends on the cloud, so the fountain keeps circulating when the service is down but the data stops. PETLIBRO acknowledged a March 2026 firmware connectivity issue on the cordless model and shipped a fix; the Dockstream 2 threads that mention disconnects mostly concern that sibling. Optional Petlibro Care adds analytics at $59.99 a year for Standard and $129.99 for Plus (PETLIBRO, October 2026). Duplicate drink notifications are a reported nuisance.
Repairs and parts
Daily care is simple: the tray goes in the dishwasher, the reservoir lifts off for washing, and the base must never be immersed. The drive unit is not user-serviceable. A family-level Reddit thread quotes PETLIBRO support saying rotor and cover sets were out of stock in the US and available only from China under quantity and shipping constraints, though whether that covers this plug-in model is unproven. An optional splash shield is $12.99 (PETLIBRO, October 2026). Filters, by contrast, are easy to find.
Is it worth it?
If you will actually use the hydration data, the premium has a purpose; if you only want circulating filtered water, a simple fountain costs far less. Chewy listed the plug-in at $79.99 (Chewy, September 2026), PETLIBRO direct at $89.99 with an 8% code, and an eBay seller at $83.99. PETLIBRO’s non-smart stainless fountain is $39.99, and its RFID model that identifies individual cats is $99.99, which is the better spend for a multi-cat home. At $70 or less it is a strong buy; above $90 the small step up to the RFID model starts to make more sense.
Which model this is
This page covers the plug-in Dockstream 2, model PLWF106, sold as ASIN B0FDKQGRCK. The cordless PLWF116 shares the Dockstream 2 name but adds a 5,200 mAh battery and up to 30 days of runtime, none of which applies here. PETLIBRO’s family page shows both side by side, and much of the online troubleshooting concerns the cordless sibling, so read owner threads with that in mind.
