Summary
A large electric griddle whose pull-handle tilt slopes the cooking plate toward a slide-out grease tray, built for households that cook big breakfasts and fatty foods in one batch. Check your counter, sink and cabinet space first: the plate does not detach, and the body is roughly 23 x 17 inches.
Strengths
- The roughly 19 x 15 in surface cooks a family breakfast in one batch.
- Tilt’nDrain moves bacon and sausage grease to the tray instead of letting it pool.
- Independent testing found only modest cooler zones at the center and edges.
- The single Control Master dial and quick setup are easy to live with.
- The heat control is a separate part that can be replaced.
- There are no filters or proprietary consumables.
Weaknesses
- The body is about 23 x 17 in and the plate does not detach, so washing it in a small sink is awkward.
- Owners report hot spots and cooler zones; severity varies by unit.
- The control tops out near 400°F, so it is not a searing appliance.
- Independent testing describes the ceramic coating as relatively thin; use nonmetal utensils.
- Older reviews describe an earlier nonstick, so their coating life does not apply to the current ceramic revision.
- Some older reports mention a loose drip tray or tilt handles that move unintentionally.

Heating and hot spots
TechGearLab tested the exact Tilt’nDrain and found the surface even for its size, with somewhat cooler center and edge zones rather than severe hot or cold patches, and it handled up to a dozen eggs at once. That result is stronger than any single owner complaint. Still, multiple exact-model owners describe more noticeable hot spots, including a hot area near the probe with a cooler center. Expect some gradient and learn where your particular unit runs hot instead of assuming flat-top uniformity.
Cleaning and storage
The griddle is fully immersible only after you remove the heat control, and “immersible” is not the same as dishwasher safe. The cooking plate does not come off the body, so a roughly 23 x 17 in appliance has to be washed and stored whole. Owners who cook often praise the capacity and then note the same thing: it is a lot of griddle to handle in a small kitchen, whether that is the sink or the cabinet.
Is it worth it?
Buy it on sale. The 07046 is a capacity-first griddle, so it makes sense for batch cooking and large families, and less sense if you mostly grill a couple of sandwiches. Compare the price against a smaller or removable-plate model before you commit, because what you give up here is counter and sink space, not features. The heat control is replaceable, so a failed control does not retire the whole appliance.
Which model this is
This page covers the National Presto Industries 07046, a long-running cool-touch griddle that has changed coating along the way. Older units used a generic “premium nonstick”; current Presto documentation specifies PFAS-free ceramic. The Amazon listing is ASIN B00066XROO. The same 07046 body has been sold for years, so reviews written before the ceramic revision describe a different surface.
