Summary
A large, simple 1500 W cast-aluminum griddle with removable handles, full-immersion cleaning and a current PFAS-free ceramic surface, built for family-size batches. Check your cabinet and sink space first, and expect to rotate food: owners keep reporting element-shaped hot zones even though recent tests measure only a mild spread.
Strengths
- Capacity is the headline: a 2026 test measured about 264 sq in and fit eight 4-inch pancakes at once.
- The current surface is documented by Presto as ceramic and PFAS-free, not inferred from marketplace copy.
- Removable handles and a detachable control let the whole body be hand-washed.
- Parts support is rare at this price, down to the rubber feet and latch catches.
- Warm-up is quick and the analog dial has nothing to configure.
- The best independent 2026 test found an 8°F maximum spread across nine points at 350°F.
Weaknesses
- Owners describe center, right-side or element-path hot zones, up to visible “racing stripes” on pancakes.
- The plastic drip tray is a weak point, with cracked and broken trays recurring in owner and parts records.
- Handle removal can be fiddly, and isolated handle/latch breakage is reported.
- The wide fixed slab is awkward in smaller sinks and needs an 18-inch-class cabinet for storage.
- The cooking plate edges are exposed and hot; one older-listing owner reported accidental contact burns.
- Long-term durability of the current ceramic coating is unknown, and older coating-wear reports do not transfer to it.

Heat across the plate
The evidence splits. Counter Tested measured an 8°F maximum spread across nine points at a nominal 350°F and about 264 sq in usable, and a comparator review put variance at 8–12°F. Long-running owner reports tell a rougher story: faster-cooking zones tracing the element, a hotter center or right side, and pancakes cooked in visible stripes. Unit variation, preheat time and thermostat cycling probably explain part of the gap, and no high-authority lab has published a temperature map for the current ceramic revision. Plan to rotate food and treat a perfectly flat plate as a bonus.
Cleaning, storage and care
Let it cool, pull the Control Master control, and the body can be immersed — a real advantage over griddles with fixed cords. The handles and legs come off without tools, and Presto says the bare base stores in most standard 18-inch cabinets. The manual is stricter than a bare-metal griddle: skip metal utensils and aerosol cooking spray, do not cut on the surface, and do not use the dishwasher, because repeated cycles slowly degrade the ceramic finish and can discolor the underside. The textured surface can also imprint food slightly, and it gets no protective body guard around the hot edge.
Repairs and parts
This is where the 07061 separates itself from cheaper rivals. Presto still catalogs every wear part for service model 0706101, and third-party suppliers carry them too. Direct from Presto, the Control Master heat control is $22.99, the drip tray $12.00, the handle/leg assembly $15.00, the latch clip catch $2.14 and a rubber foot $1.00 (Presto, October 2026); eReplacementParts lists the heat control near $33.22 and the handle/leg near $19.54. A cracked tray or broken handle is a small parts order, not a dead appliance. There is no separate replacement cooking plate, so coating failure is an appliance-level problem. Nothing here is a scheduled consumable, so running cost is electricity alone: one hour a week at the full 1500 W rating is about 78 kWh and $14.28 a year at 18.31 cents/kWh (U.S. EIA, July 2026), and a heavier 30-minute, three-times-a-week pattern is about $21.42.
Is it worth it?
Buy it on sale. Kohl’s listed the exact 07061 at $49.99 and Presto and Best Buy at $69.99 (September–October 2026), with eBay exact-model offers near $59.99 and McCoy’s at $71.80. At $50 or less it is an excellent buy; $51–$65 remains a strong value for family cooking; at $69.99 it is reasonable but no longer automatic, because Presto’s own tilting 07046 costs the same $69.99 and adds a cool-touch surround. Above about $75 the analog dial and the hot-zone caveat weaken the case: Presto’s 07073 XL is $75.99 with a 254 sq in PFAS-free ceramic plate and folding legs, and a Zojirushi EA-DCC10 at $184.99 gives a protected design and 425°F heat for buyers who want more.
Which model this is
This page covers the current US Presto 07061, black, service model 0706101, UPC 075741070612. The Amazon listing is ASIN B005FYF3OY. The “22-inch” in the name is a size label, not a verified cooking-area length — Presto’s dealer sheet gives roughly 22 × 11.5 in, and the product page publishes no usable surface figure. Watch the revision: current Presto copy specifies textured ceramic, PFAS-free, while older listings and reviews describe generic premium nonstick, so decade-old coating complaints may not apply to what ships today. Model 0706201 is a separate product and is not covered here.
