Summary

A large-format enclosed CoreXY 3D printer with a 320×320×300 mm build volume, actively heated chamber up to 65°C, and 3-stage air filtration, aimed at engineering filaments like ABS, PC, and PA at a consumer price. The one thing to check before buying: the optional QIDI Box multi-color system is unreliable, and long-term reliability data is thin since the printer launched only in August 2026.

Strengths

  • Heated chamber at a price where competitors often lack one: 550 W, up to 65°C, with excellent ABS/ASA results and no warping in 3DWork’s testing.
  • Print quality that owners compare favorably to the Bambu Lab P1P: one Reddit user reported being “blown away” and said it outpaces the P1P in every situation.
  • 3-stage air filtration with H12 HEPA and activated carbon, effective at capturing ABS/ASA fumes.
  • Minimal setup: the printer ships almost fully assembled; users attach the spool holder and Bowden tubes.
  • Auto-leveling via nozzle-contact loadcell gives reliable first layers without manual intervention.
  • Runs Klipper firmware and works with QIDI Studio, OrcaSlicer, PrusaSlicer, and Cura.

Weaknesses

  • Rear filament loading is awkward; filament catches on the coupler during threading.
  • The optional QIDI Box AMS system is unreliable — Tom’s Hardware says it “still doesn’t work,” and 3DWork reports occasional sync issues.
  • Filament entry angle can cause feeding problems; community mods exist to fix it.
  • Without the QIDI Box, the printer does not detect filament jams.
  • PLA and PETG can clog the nozzle when the chamber runs too hot without active cooling or extraction.
  • Long-term reliability is unknown: the Plus5 launched in August 2026, so only about two months of owner data exists.

Heated chamber and engineering filaments

The Plus5’s 3rd-generation chamber heater runs at 550 W and holds up to 65°C, a feature still uncommon at this price. 3DWork tested the base printer on PLA, PETG, ABS, and ASA and reported excellent ABS/ASA results with no warping. The 370°C bimetal nozzle and direct-drive extruder with hardened steel gears handle carbon-fiber and glass-fiber composites. QIDI advises setting chamber temperature about 10°C below the filament’s softening point; running it hotter without active cooling or extraction can cause PLA and PETG to clog the nozzle, as some owners have reported.

Air filtration and emissions

The integrated 3-in-1 filter combines a G3 pre-filter, H12 HEPA, and coconut shell activated carbon. QIDI rates it at 99.5% dust and particle capture. Tom’s Hardware specifically praised the HEPA filtration, and owners confirm it effectively captures ABS/ASA fumes during printing. Filter replacements are a recurring ownership cost, especially with heavy use.

Multi-color: QIDI Box and Polar Cooler

The QIDI Box is an optional accessory sold separately, or bundled in the Combo package. It supports up to 16 colors with four boxes. Max4-model QIDI Box units work directly on the Plus5; Plus4 or Q2 models require a QIDI Box Hub and Signal Cable. Tom’s Hardware’s review states the QIDI Box “still doesn’t work,” and 3DWork reported occasional QIDI Box and cloud sync issues. Without the QIDI Box, tangle detection is unavailable and the printer cannot detect filament jams. The Polar Cooler, an active toolhead cooling system, is also optional and sold separately.

Setup, software, and daily use

The printer ships almost fully assembled. Users attach the spool holder and two Bowden tubes before printing. QIDI Studio, based on BambuStudio (which is based on PrusaSlicer), is the bundled slicer; OrcaSlicer, PrusaSlicer, and Cura also work thanks to the Klipper firmware. The 4-inch touchscreen handles most tasks, though accessing the camera’s full 1080p requires manually editing crowsnest.conf through the web interface. Owners report occasional Klipper issues and QIDI Maker app bugs, including incidents where the app unbinds the printer from your account. The glass top cover feels thin and delicate, and the lower-mounted handles make lifting less convenient.

Which model this is

This page covers the QIDI Plus5 3D Printer by QIDI Tech (Zhejiang Qidi Technology Co., Ltd.), model Plus5, launched globally on August 5, 2026. The US Amazon listing is ASIN B0H5BMC2JQ. QIDI’s official US store lists the standard variant at SKU PLUS5001. The Plus5 is the successor to the QIDI Plus4 (305×305×280 mm build volume), offering 18% more build volume in the same footprint. Do not confuse it with the Plus4, Max4, Q2, or other QIDI models.

Is it worth it?

The Plus5 costs $749 from QIDI’s US store for the standard variant, $849 for the Polar Cooler bundle, $899 for the Combo with QIDI Box, and $999 for the Combo plus Polar Cooler. Fabreeko lists it at $748.99. The Bambu Lab H2S, which Tom’s Hardware says the Plus5 “gives a run for its money,” costs $1399. At $749 the Plus5 offers a compelling package for anyone printing engineering filaments, with the heated chamber as the main differentiator. Above $900, the value weakens unless you specifically need the large build volume. The weak points are the unproven QIDI Box ecosystem, ergonomic annoyances, and the absence of long-term reliability data two months after launch.
