Summary
A wireless gaming headset with hybrid ANC, THX Spatial Audio and a detachable 12mm microphone, built for esports and competitive play. Check the weight before you buy: at 367 g it is noticeably heavier than most rivals, and the Esports EQ presets do not work with spatial audio mode.
Strengths
- Strong audio after EQ tuning, with punchy bass and clear highs and no distortion at high volume.
- Hybrid ANC blocks a window air conditioner during gameplay; TV audio still audible at loud moments.
- The detachable 12mm microphone is one of the clearest-sounding headset mics PCMag has tested.
- THX Spatial Audio delivers tight, accurate positional panning with four overhead zones.
- Simultaneous 2.4GHz and Bluetooth lets you take calls while gaming.
- Fast charging: 4% to 11% in 8 minutes.
Weaknesses
- The 70-hour battery claim is optimistic; WIRED measured ~50 hours with ANC on and ~60 with ANC off.
- At 367 g the headset is noticeably heavier than competitors and bulky enough that WIRED says it is not suitable for wearing outside the house.
- The Esports Pro EQ presets do not work with spatial audio mode.
- The default EQ profile sounds hollow without a strong foundation of bass or enough treble definition.
- Razer Synapse creates new system audio outputs, which WIRED found intrusive.
- The SmartSwitch button takes some getting used to locate.

Sound and spatial audio
The TriForce Bio-Cellulose 50mm Gen-2 drivers deliver detailed, clear audio with punchy bass once the EQ is tuned out of the default profile, which PCMag found “a bit hollow, without a strong foundation of bass or enough treble definition.” There is no distortion at high volume. THX Spatial Audio 7.1.4 provides four overhead zones with distinct separation; WIRED called it “extremely tight.” PCMag found positional panning accurate in Apex Legends. WIRED noted spatial audio can be “a little jarring” in games not designed for precise positional audio.
Microphone
The 12mm detachable FullBand microphone is the standout feature. WIRED said their friends had never heard a clearer boom mic, with sharp and clear voice reproduction. PCMag said it is “one of the clearest-sounding” headset mics they have tested. The Esports preset provides clear in-game callouts; Broadcast EQ is better for streaming than in-game communication. A pop filter is included.
Battery life and charging
Razer claims 70 hours of battery life. WIRED measured approximately 50 hours with ANC on and 60 hours with ANC off — 10 to 20 hours below the claim. Fast charging partially compensates: WIRED measured 4% to 11% charge in 8 minutes. The headset charges over USB-C. WIRED noted the headset “got a little confused” if plugged into a computer just to charge; an external charger worked fine.
Comfort and build
At 367 g, the Pro is “a full 100-plus grams heavier than the Arctis Nova 3 at 260 grams” and “noticeably heavier” than other recent headsets WIRED has tested. It lacks the ski-goggle headband that SteelSeries uses for weight distribution. The headband uses faux leather across the top with padding underneath; earcups have dual-seal memory foam cushions with a mesh exterior and a pleather interior layer for ANC. PCMag found it comfortable even with glasses during long sessions. WIRED says it is “bulky” and “you probably don’t want to wear them outside the house.”
Software and connectivity
Razer Synapse (Windows) and the Razer Audio App (iOS/Android) provide per-game EQ and mic EQ. The SmartSwitch button cycles EQ presets and wireless modes but “takes some getting used to” to locate. The headset supports simultaneous 2.4GHz and Bluetooth — a first for the BlackShark series — plus wired 3.5mm. The 2.4GHz dongle cable is “longer than needed” per PCMag. Razer Synapse creates new system audio outputs, which WIRED found intrusive.
Is it worth it?
At $249.99 MSRP, the V3 Pro undercuts the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless at $379.99 by $130 with comparable performance, according to PCMag. WIRED called it “my pick for gamers looking to spend a bit more on a very premium headset.” Wirecutter dismissed it as “too expensive to recommend at the time of this writing” in their gaming headset guide, though they did not test it — the dismissal appears price-based rather than performance-based. If you want a premium wireless gaming headset with ANC, strong audio and a class-leading microphone, the V3 Pro delivers. If weight or bulk is a concern, or if you need the Esports EQ presets to work with spatial audio, look elsewhere.
