Summary
The Galaxy Z Fold7 (256GB) is Samsung’s thinnest book-style foldable, a 215g phone that folds to 8.9mm and opens to an 8.0-inch inner display with a 200MP main camera. Check two things before buying: the 4,400mAh battery and 25W charging are unchanged from the Fold6, and Samsung removed S Pen support entirely.
Strengths
- Folds to 8.9mm and 215g, so it feels like a normal phone in a pocket.
- The 8.0-inch inner display handles up to three apps at once.
- The 200MP main camera uses the same sensor as the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
- Seven years of OS and security updates match the longest Android promise.
- The wider 6.5-inch cover display is practical one-handed, so you unfold less.
- Owners consistently praise the thin, light design and the reduced crease.
Weaknesses
- The 4,400mAh battery and 25W charging are unchanged from the Fold6, and heavy users report charging by mid-afternoon.
- There is no S Pen support, and it is permanent: Samsung removed the digitizer layer.
- Some owners report bubbles at the crease or an inner screen failing within months, with warranty disputes.
- IP48 covers water but gives only limited dust protection.
- The thick camera bump makes the phone wobble on a flat table.
- Inner-screen repairs can cost $1,000 or more.

Design and the missing S Pen
The Fold7 folds to 8.9mm and 4.2mm unfolded at 215g, which makes it thinner and lighter than the phones it competes with. The frame is Armor Aluminum, the back is Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and the cover screen is Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, with a titanium lattice behind the inner display. Samsung claims the Armor FlexHinge is 10% stronger than the previous generation and the inner glass is 50% thicker, but the crease is still visible when the screen is off. The bigger change is subtraction: Samsung removed the digitizer layer to hit the thinner profile, so no S Pen works with this phone, ever.
Battery, charging and heat
Battery life is the compromise that survived the redesign. The 4,400mAh cell is the same capacity as the Fold6, and PCMag measured 13h10m of 1080p streaming, up from the Fold6’s 11h30m but behind the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s 14h15m. Charging is 25W wired and 15W wireless; PCMag took about 1h30m to reach full, and CNET measured 0-42% in 30 minutes. CNET got about a day and a half of mixed use, and owners in r/GalaxyFold say heavy days need a top-up by mid-afternoon. PCMag also noted the phone heats up during gaming and camera use, particularly beneath the camera module.
Cameras and displays
The 200MP main sensor is the same one in the Galaxy S25 Ultra, joined by a 12MP ultrawide and a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom. The inner selfie camera moved from the Fold6’s 4MP under-display unit to a 10MP punch-hole: better photos, but a visible dot in the screen. PCMag measured 88 fps in GFXBench Aztec Ruins and Geekbench 6 scores of 3,024 single-core and 9,468 multi-core; CNET recorded 2,944 and 9,379. CNET also found the cover display gets used about 70% of the time, and saw formatting problems with Instagram and TikTok on the inner screen. GSMArena’s user reviews list the telephoto camera and the speakers as weak points.
Durability, repairs and warranty
The inner display is still a flexible plastic-based panel, and Samsung ships it with a pre-installed screen protector that should not be removed. Owners in r/GalaxyFold report “angel wings” bubbles at the crease after several months, and one reports the inner screen dying within 2 months with Samsung denying warranty. Dust between the screen and protector is a cited risk. Inner-screen repairs can run $1,000 or more, which is why owners recommend Samsung Care+; the standard warranty is 1 year. The IP48 rating resists water but only limits dust, so grit remains the enemy. Long-term durability data is thin because the phone only launched in July 2025.
Is it worth it?
Samsung.com lists the 256GB model at $1,999.99, and T-Mobile lists it at $1,999.99 as well; that is $100 more than the Fold6 launched at ($1,899.99). Samsung also sells a Certified Re-Newed 512GB model at $1,749, and trade-in credit can knock up to $570 off. There is no charger in the box, so budget for one. The value case rests on actually using the inner display; if you mostly use the cover screen, a standard flagship costs less and lasts longer between charges. Samsung Care+ adds a monthly cost on top.
Which model this is
This page covers the 256GB Galaxy Z Fold7, sold unlocked in the US as SM-F966U and globally as SM-F966B. The 256GB and 512GB models both have 12GB of RAM; only the 1TB model gets 16GB, which marketplace listings often blur. The Amazon listing for this variant is ASIN B0F7JZXMQ7. Don’t confuse it with the Z Fold6, Z Fold8, Z Flip7 or Z Fold8 Ultra.
