Summary
A 34-inch flat VA ultrawide for desk work, with 3440 × 1440 resolution, 100 Hz, a 3000:1 contrast ratio and HDR10. Check the stand and the ports before buying: it tilts only, and there is no USB-C, USB hub or built-in speakers.
Strengths
- The 34-inch 21:9 frame gives a wide desktop for documents and timelines.
- 3440 × 1440 over a 34-inch panel is sharp enough for text.
- The VA panel’s 3000:1 contrast produces deep blacks.
- 100 Hz is smoother than 60 Hz for everyday motion.
- PIP/PBP lets two sources share the one screen.
- FreeSync and TUV-certified eye care are included.
Weaknesses
- It is flat, not curved, unlike many ultrawides buyers expect.
- There is no USB-C, no USB hub and no built-in speakers.
- The stand tilts only, with no height, swivel or pivot adjustment.
- At 300 nits with basic HDR10, HDR content looks modest.
- The HDMI ports are 2.0, not 2.1.
- The 100 Hz and 5 ms spec is not aimed at competitive gaming.

Full research notes and sources
The panel and picture
The S50GC uses a VA panel, so its 3000:1 static contrast gives deeper blacks than the IPS panels common at this size. Color reaches 1.07 billion shades through 8-bit plus frame-rate control, covering 72% NTSC, with viewing angles of 178° both ways. At 300 cd/m² typical and 250 cd/m² minimum, HDR10 is present but subtle, with no local dimming. PCWorld calls it superb as a productivity display, and the numbers agree: 3440 × 1440 on a 34-inch flat screen is about 109 ppi, which is sharp for text and spreadsheets.
Ports, stand and setup
Two HDMI 2.0 ports and one DisplayPort 1.2 carry video; the official Samsung spec and B&H list HDMI 2.0, not the 2.2 some listings claim. There is a 3.5 mm audio-out, but no USB-C, no USB hub and no built-in speakers, so a USB-C laptop needs an adapter. An HDMI cable, a DisplayPort cable and a 4.9 ft power cable are in the box. The stand tilts from -2° to 22° and offers no height or swivel adjustment; the panel is flat, not curved, and VESA 100 × 100 mm mounting is available.
Is it worth it?
Samsung lists it at $329.99. B&H and Newegg have shown it at $249.99, about $80 less. At $249.99 it is strong value for a productivity ultrawide with VA contrast and a Samsung build; at $329.99 it is merely fair next to similar 34-inch ultrawides from LG, Dell and Gigabyte, which match the resolution and refresh rate. If you want USB-C, speakers or gaming-grade response, spend the difference elsewhere.
