Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

A 25.2 V cordless stick vacuum, convertible to handheld, with an infrared dirt sensor, a dual-roll floor head, a bending wand and a five-year warranty. The 60-minute runtime headline is for the detached hand vacuum in Eco mode — as a stick vacuum it runs closer to 30 minutes.

Strengths

  • Reviewed measured 54% single-pass pickup of shifted sand on medium-pile carpet, the best of any Shark cordless it had tested.
  • RTINGS scored it 8/10 with 59.2 CFM maximum hose airflow and good filtration.
  • The dual PowerFins HairPro head handles hair without wrapping in testing.
  • The MultiFLEX wand reaches under furniture and folds for freestanding storage.
  • A five-year limited warranty, long for the category.
  • The battery is removable and charges off the vacuum.

Weaknesses

  • Runtime is the big gap: about 30 minutes in standard stick use and a little over 10 minutes in Boost with the head attached.
  • Heavy at 8.9 lb in stick form, one of the heavier cordless sticks on the market.
  • The floor nozzle cannot be switched off and has no carpet-height adjustment.
  • Clean Sense IQ’s real-world benefit is unquantified; one reviewer noticed only extra noise.
  • The odor-neutralizer cartridge is a scented consumable in the airflow path, and reviewers disagree on whether it can be removed.
  • No spare filters or brush-cleaning tool in the box, and the manual says the vacuum has no serviceable parts.

Runtime is the number that matters

The 60-minute figure is the detached hand vacuum in Eco mode, and Shark’s own retailer copy repeats that qualifier. The owner’s guide lists only 10 minutes for hand-vacuum Boost. In stick use, Business Insider measured about 30 minutes in standard mode and under 15 minutes handheld in Eco where 60 minutes is advertised, Reviewed measured 11 minutes on Boost, and RTINGS measured a little over 10 minutes in Boost with the wand and head attached. TechRadar’s experience was the most favourable, typically finishing a session in a 1,600 sq ft home with about 40% charge left, and it noted the battery drains faster in Clean Sense IQ mode. Owners most often cite battery life as the con. Keep the 60-minute number out of the decision.

Cleaning results and the floor head

Reviewed’s lab put single-pass pickup of shifted sand on medium-pile carpet at 54%, the best of any Shark cordless tested there but average for the price class, where the Tineco Pure One S15 managed 87%. RTINGS scored the Stratos 8/10, measured 59.2 CFM maximum hose airflow and rated filtration good, with hard-floor pickup 8.0 and pet-hair pickup 7.5 — the latter below the cheaper Dyson V8. Business Insider found fine sand and sugar needed Boost or a second pass, while large debris went up well. The dual PowerFins HairPro brushroll handled hair without wrapping in its testing, and the LEDs on the floor head act as a cleanliness indicator. There is no brushroll on/off switch and no carpet-height adjustment, so the head is always on.

Weight, handling and upkeep

At 8.9 lb the Stratos is heavy for a cordless stick, and TechRadar now calls it one of the heavier models on the market. The MultiFLEX hinge lets it reach under furniture and fold flat, and TechRadar used the wand with a tool attached to clean 10-foot ceilings and door frames, but the wand is harder to steer while bent. The odor-neutralizer cartridge is a 17.4 g scented consumable in the airflow path; Reviewed found it effective but pungent, and the two outlets disagree on whether it can be taken out. Maintenance is washing the HEPA and pre-motor filters and letting them dry fully; only Shark-branded filters and accessories may be used or the warranty is voided. The manual states the vacuum contains no serviceable parts, and no spare filters shipped in the box. Parts exist but are limited: a charging cord, a replacement floor nozzle, a dust cup and a dusting brush.

Price and whether it’s worth it

Shark’s list price was $499.99. Its own indexed page showed $319.99, Business Insider’s 2026 snapshot showed $279.99, TechRadar recorded $399.99 direct from Shark, and Consumer Reports lists it from $399.99.

Below roughly $300 this is a defensible buy: it has the best instrumented results in Shark’s cordless line, a five-year warranty, and anti-hair-wrap and folding features the newer, cheaper models do not all match. At $300-400 it is fair only if the fold-flat storage, the odor cartridge or the MultiFLEX wand specifically matter. Above $400, and at list, value is poor: both TechRadar and RTINGS point at a newer Shark offering the same suction for less, and the PowerDetect Speed is lighter at 7.1 lb. Buy it on price, not on the runtime headline. Check the store panel above for current prices.

Which model this is

This page covers the Shark Stratos Cordless IZ862H, Ash Purple, part of the IZ800 series. Don’t merge it with the PowerDetect Speed IA1241 (350 W, 6-hour charge, 0.5 qt bin, 3.5 lb hand-vac weight, 8.3 in path), the PowerDetect IP1251 and IP1255, or the UK and AU IZ400 variants. The IZ800 series shares one battery and charger family across the IZ840H, IZ862H and sibling SKUs. The US listing is ASIN B0B5JMNGNQ.
