Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

A mature cordless stick and handheld vacuum built around a dual-roller DuoClean PowerFins head, a folding MultiFLEX wand, sealed HEPA filtration and a removable 25.2 V battery. It cleans hard floors and pet hair well, but the 60-minute headline is a hand-vac best case and normal powered-head runtime is roughly half that.

Strengths

  • Modern Castle measured 99.5% aggregate hard-floor pickup with its controlled debris test.
  • The same testing found 96.7% overall debris pickup across floor types.
  • The dual-roller head moves between hard floors and carpet without a nozzle swap.
  • Pet-hair pickup rates highly, and the self-cleaning brushroll reduces manual hair cutting.
  • The removable battery is officially replaceable, unlike a sealed cordless pack.
  • MultiFLEX reaches under furniture and folds the vacuum for freestanding storage without a wall dock.

Weaknesses

  • The 60-minute figure applies to the detached hand vacuum, not normal powered-head use.
  • Independent testing measured only 19 to 38 minutes depending on mode.
  • Carpet fine-debris pickup is the weak spot: 86% sugar on low pile and 92% on high pile.
  • At just over 9 lb, it is heavy for a stick and owners describe it as top-heavy.
  • The 0.34 qt dust cup is small and fills quickly in pet homes.
  • Owners report loud or grinding floorhead noise, and one reported a burning smell after roller maintenance.

Runtime and what the 60-minute claim means

The headline number is easy to misread. Shark measures the 60-minute figure with the hand vacuum only, in Standard mode, with the powered floorhead off. Shark’s own manual gives the powered modes as about 34 minutes on bare floor, 23 minutes on carpet and 10 minutes in Boost, and RTINGS measured 19 to 38 minutes across its tests. Charging takes about three hours. In practice, expect a normal powered whole-floor run to land closer to 20 to 40 minutes depending on Boost use, so the 60-minute claim should not drive the purchase.

Cleaning performance on floors and carpet

The fundamentals are still competitive. Modern Castle measured 99.5% aggregate hard-floor pickup and 96.7% overall, and the DuoClean head handles mixed flooring without swapping nozzles, which is the main reason to choose this over a single-roller stick. Pet hair is a genuine strength, helped by the self-cleaning PowerFins brushroll. The weakness is fine debris on carpet: Modern Castle recorded 86% sugar pickup on low pile and 92% on high pile, with kitty litter at 94% and 92%, all well behind the near-perfect hard-floor results.

Hair, filtration and maintenance

Filtration is a real selling point: washable foam and felt pre-motor filters, a post-motor HEPA filter and an Anti-Allergen Complete Seal. The maintenance is hands-on, with Shark recommending the pre-motor filters be rinsed monthly and the HEPA filter about once a year, each needing at least 24 hours of air-drying. Every wear item is sold separately for the exact model: the XSBT750 battery is $88.99, the XHF161H HEPA filter $20.99, the 617FJ140 pre-motor kit $18.99 and the 706FFJ462H dust cup $40.99 (Shark, September 2026). At about one pre-motor kit a year and a HEPA every two years, routine filters annualize to roughly $27.49, and a battery replaced every three years would add about $29.66 a year as a budgeting scenario. There are no bags, cleaning liquids or subscription costs, and the PowerFins roller itself is not intended as an owner-replaceable part.

Is it worth it?

Value depends almost entirely on price, because exact-model stock is thinning. Kohl’s listed it at $399.99 and a Walmart exact-model result showed $349.99 (September 2026), while Best Buy’s final clearance snapshot was $160.99. At $180 or less a new unit with a real warranty is excellent value; $181 to $220 is still a strong buy if the dual-roller head, MultiFLEX and replaceable battery matter to you; $221 to $260 is only fair, because Walmart sells the newer Shark PowerPro Pet IZ373H for $249.99 with FloorDetect and a 50-minute headline. Above $260 it is weak, with the Shark Detect Pro IW1120 around $199 and the PowerPro Reveal Plus IZ376H at $329.99. At $399.99 there is little reason to choose this older model.

Which model this is

This page covers the Shark Vertex Cordless Stick Vacuum IZ462H, blue, UPC 622356565622. The Amazon listing is ASIN B08CC3GWVJ. Do not merge it with other Vertex models on the strength of the shared name, and note that the legacy sharkclean.com address for this model now resolves to the SharkNinja storefront, so first-party support and stock status should be checked before buying. Retailer bundles vary: Shark’s own in-box list names the crevice tool and pet multi-tool, while Kohl’s also lists an anti-allergen brush, so confirm the specific seller’s box contents.
