Summary

A 20V brushless oscillating multi-tool kit for DIYers and homeowners who want cordless cutting, sanding and scraping work without paying premium-tool prices. Check the blade interface before you buy: it uses Skil’s 12-pin OIS system, so Starlock blades from Bosch or Fein tools won’t fit.

Strengths

  • At 1.75 lbs bare it was the lightest tool in both 2026 tests, and 2.56 lbs with the 2.0Ah battery.
  • Brushless motor cuts trim, PVC, EMT and drywall with confidence; six speeds cover the range.
  • Tool-free accessory changes, though the threaded pin is slower than spring-loaded clamps.
  • Slide switch and variable-speed dial work without changing your grip.
  • LED work light with after-glow, soft start and constant-speed control under load.
  • The kit pairs a battery, charger, sanding pad, nine papers and two blades with a 5-year warranty.

Weaknesses

  • The crank-style blade change drew “fragile” and “horrible” from one 2026 test and “a little clunky” from another.
  • Vibration control is respectable but trails Milwaukee, Bosch and Fein.
  • It is slow in metal cutting.
  • Starlock blades do not fit — a barrier if you already own that ecosystem.
  • No dust collection is included or sold for this model.
  • The side speed dial bumps easily and the battery takes real effort to swap.

Cutting, sanding and scrape work

The brushless motor tops out at 17,000 OPM — a little below the roughly 20,000 OPM some competitors reach, but enough for cutting, sanding, scraping and grout removal. Pro Tool Reviews found it confident and responsive in trim, PVC, EMT and drywall plunge cuts. Concord Carpenter noted it is slow in metal.

Skil’s VRS is claimed to cut vibration by 80% versus its own tools without it. Pro Tool Reviews gave vibration a “respectable” rating and said it never became uncomfortable during aggressive cutting, though not as refined as Milwaukee, Bosch or Fein. Concord Carpenter tied it for 4th in a 15-tool field. Soft start and constant-speed control keep cuts steady under load.

Blade change and the OIS interface

Blades and sanding pads swap tool-free on Skil’s 12-pin OIS interface, which uses a threaded pin rather than a spring-loaded clamp. Pro Tool Reviews called the change “a bit slower and less convenient than something like Starlock” and “a little clunky”. Concord Carpenter was harsher, calling the crank-style mechanism “fragile” and “horrible”. The clamp lever can turn stiff with gloved hands when the head is dusty or hot.

The interface is not Starlock, so blades from Bosch or Fein Starlock tools will not fit. OIS is widely adopted, but anyone switching from a Starlock ecosystem needs new accessories.

Battery and kit contents

The kit’s 2.0Ah pack handled a day’s mix of short tasks — three door jambs, four drywall openings and shim cuts — with room to spare; longer continuous cuts or extended sanding will eat a second pack. There is no dust collection attachment, included or sold separately by Skil.

Is it worth it?

For a homeowner doing occasional remodeling, repairs and punch-list work, this kit is easy to recommend. Pro Tool Reviews called it excellent value at $109. Skil’s own site lists the kit at $109.99, Ace Hardware at $109.99 and Acme Tools at $99.00 (October 2026), and Global Industrial has it at $109.00 marked down from $119.95. Concord Carpenter’s 2026 comparison lists a $79 baseline price. A professional who reaches for an oscillating tool every day may still prefer the vibration control of Milwaukee, Bosch or Fein, and in Concord Carpenter’s 15-tool test the Skil won no category — the best-value pick was the Metabo HPT at $89. If you already own PWR CORE 20 batteries, the kit is a natural add-on; if you own Starlock accessories, it is a non-starter.

Owner discussion is thin. A 2021 r/Tools thread comparing Skil’s 12V brushless kit with Milwaukee’s M12 praised the Skil platform, and brand-level Trustpilot reviews for Skil include complaints about battery chargers and customer service — neither says much about this specific tool.

Which model this is

This page covers the Skil OS5920B-10 kit (tool alone OS5920B-00), the current 20V brushless oscillating multi-tool on the PWR CORE 20 platform. It replaced the OS5937-10, which was heavier at 2.3 lbs bare, carried two LEDs and claimed 90% less vibration; the older model sits at $149.99 on Skil’s site, sold out. There is no bare-tool option. WOOD Magazine’s January 2025 oscillating multi-tool review did not include this model. A Floor and Decor listing shows a different kit configuration — 35 sandpapers, a bi-metal blade, a rigid scraper and an accessory case — at $49.46 per piece, likely a different SKU.

The Amazon listing for this kit is ASIN B085FRMJK3.
