Summary

A soda-can-sized 1080p LED projector with a built-in battery, licensed Netflix and Google TV, built for dark bedrooms, tents, RVs and backyards after sunset. Check your room before you buy: 200 ANSI lumens washes out in ordinary lamp or window light, and battery runtime falls to about an hour at full brightness.

Strengths

  • All-in-one portability: battery, speaker, streaming OS and autofocus in a 0.85 kg body; no separate streaming stick needed for Netflix.
  • Measured brightness matches the claim: 201 ANSI lumens in Bright mode on AC power.
  • Sharp, colorful 1080p image for the size in a dark room, with 91.4% sRGB coverage.
  • Automatic setup: autofocus, auto keystone, screen fit and obstacle avoidance.
  • The 8 W speaker is unusually useful at this size, and Bluetooth output covers wireless headphones and speakers.
  • No bulb purchases: the LED source is rated 30,000 hours.

Weaknesses

  • 200 ANSI lumens is a hard limit: window or lamp light quickly washes out movie scenes, and battery operation cuts brightness by about 40%.
  • Runtime at full brightness is short: Expert Reviews saw 60–80 minutes, and RTINGS measured just under 100.
  • The 8 W speaker has limited stereo separation.
  • No optical zoom, lens shift or adjustable gimbal; keystone cannot replace good physical placement.
  • Google TV runs on 2 GB of RAM, and owners report a slow interface and occasional app failures.
  • Gaming verdicts conflict: one reviewer found casual play playable, another measured high input lag.

Picture quality and brightness

Projector Reviews measured 201 ANSI lumens in Bright mode on AC power, nearly matching the advertised 200, with 131 in Standard, 142 in Movie and 125 in Game mode — the peak number should not be assumed in every mode. Expert Reviews measured 91.4% sRGB and 74.8% DCI-P3 coverage and called the image sharp and colorful for the size in a dark room. The catch is ambient light: ordinary window or lamp light quickly washes out scenes, RTINGS rates the projector extremely dim with weak dark-scene contrast, and sensitive viewers may notice DLP rainbow artifacts. Battery operation reduces brightness by about 40% compared with AC. At 60–70 inches Expert Reviews found the image much more usable than at 100 inches; the marketed 120-inch maximum assumes a very dark room.

Battery life and charging

Manufacturer figures run 2 hours at 140 lumens in Standard and 2.5 hours at 100 lumens in Eco, with up to 10 hours of audio. Expert Reviews observed roughly 2.5 hours in dim Eco but only 60–80 minutes at full brightness; RTINGS measured nearly 100 minutes in its battery test. Treat the advertised 2.5 hours as a best case, not a guarantee for a long movie. Charging is USB-C Power Delivery 20V/2.25A (45 W); for a unit that will not power on or charge, soundcore recommends a known-good 45 W PD adapter and another cable, then charging a fully depleted unit for 15–30 minutes. Firmware 11.0.34 added automatic brightness reduction when battery temperature runs high.

Software and streaming

Google TV with officially licensed Netflix and Chromecast; the manufacturer’s technical listing also labels the OS Android TV 11.0. In August 2026 an owner of a Capsule V3 with Google TV and Netflix reported Netflix suddenly stopping while other apps kept working; a 2025 Capsule 3 owner reported a black home screen after changing Google TV setup and regained Settings through the Prime Video remote button. These are individual reports, not defect rates. Official firmware notes describe fixes for HDMI flicker, keystone flicker, Bluetooth sound faults and an inaccessible Settings menu. Local USB playback is not fully plug-and-play: a camper had trouble finding videos without a file manager, and soundcore advises FAT32 or NTFS media; USB-C is charging-only, not a video input. DRM restrictions prevent mirroring some protected streaming video from iOS — use the native Google TV app.

Running costs, parts and accessories

No paid subscription is required for projector operation, and the LED source’s 30,000-hour rating means no scheduled lamp purchases. Electricity illustration: at two 2-hour movies per week (208 hours a year), assuming 45 W average wall draw and $0.25/kWh, annual electricity would be $2.34 — a scenario, not a measured power-consumption figure. The official Capsule 3 travel case (D0718112) is $49.99 from soundcore US and does not fit the Capsule 3 Laser. Best Buy lists the D2425112 with the Nebula gimbal stand (D0719111) at $427.99 versus $399.99 for the projector alone. The internal battery is not listed as user-replaceable; ask soundcore support about service rather than assuming a DIY swap.

Is it worth it?

$399.99 is widely listed — B&H and Best Buy both had the D2425 at that price in October 2026, and a Walmart travel-case bundle sold by AnkerDirect was $403.99 — while soundcore’s own page shows a $529.99 regular price. At $300–$350 new it is excellent value for a buyer who needs a built-in battery and accepts low brightness; at $350–$400 it is a fair deal for dark-room portability. A March 2026 promotion offered $360. Above $450–$500, compare the Nebula Mars 3 Air ($519.99 at soundcore, 400 ANSI lumens, dual 8 W speakers, 1.69 kg) or the XGIMI MoGo 3 Pro ($379 sale, 450 ISO lumens, 130-degree stand, no internal battery). If the same pocketable format matters but brightness is worth more, the Capsule 3 Laser (D2426) is a distinct laser-light-source model — do not transfer its failure reports or accessory claims to the D2425.
