Summary

A 30 W portable Bluetooth speaker for buyers who want aptX, a wired AUX input, multipoint and stereo pairing for around $100 or less. Check two things first: the default sound is bass-light without BassUp or the app EQ, and there is no dust protection, so sand and fine grit are a bad idea.

Strengths

  • Measured battery life of 16 h 13 min beats the 12-hour rating by a wide margin.
  • aptX, a wired AUX input, multipoint and stereo pairing are a lot of features for the price.
  • IPX7 lets you rinse it and use it in a shower or at the pool.
  • Loud for its size once BassUp or the app EQ adds bass.
  • Two units can pair for louder, more immersive stereo.
  • The nine-band EQ and firmware updates keep it tunable.

Weaknesses

  • Default sound is bass-light and has effectively no sub-bass until you use BassUp or the EQ.
  • No dust protection; IPX7 covers water only, so sand and fine grit are a risk.
  • Heavy at about 1.05 kg, and the single-direction design means placement matters.
  • No AAC and no fast charging; a full charge takes about four hours.
  • Units made after November 2022 will not stereo-pair with older Motion+ units.
  • Call quality through the built-in mic is only passable.

Sound and tuning

Measured frequency response has a narrow lift of about 5 dB from 55–100 Hz and effectively no sub-bass below 50 Hz, so the out-of-box sound is flatter than the “Intense Bass” name suggests. BassUp raises 55–100 Hz by 10–15 dB above the mids and slightly de-emphasizes treble at 3 kHz and above; the nine-band EQ in the Soundcore app can touch that up. Maximum volume is enough for a small indoor or outdoor party, and the drivers fire in one direction, so where you place the speaker matters. Calls through the onboard mic, which sits next to the BassUp button, are mediocre for the category. SoundGuys rates the speaker 6.7/10 overall and calls it a jack-of-all-trades rather than a specialist.

Battery and charging

Anker rates 12 hours, but SoundGuys measured 16 h 13 min of playback at 75 dB SPL — well past the claim. A full charge over USB-C takes about four hours and there is no fast charging. The internal battery is not described as user-replaceable. Leave the speaker unused for a long time and it can over-discharge; it then needs at least an hour on the charger before it powers on.

Pairing, app and upkeep

Two Motion+ units can pair for true stereo, but keep electronics out from between them and keep them within about 5 m, with the master on the right. The November 2022 change means newer units will not stereo-pair with older ones. The Soundcore app handles the nine-band EQ, presets and firmware updates. Pressing BassUp switches the speaker into its BassUp EQ mode, so a saved custom EQ has to be re-selected in the app afterward. To reset, hold Bluetooth and Volume+ together for 5–10 seconds until the speaker restarts. Soundcore advertises a hassle-free warranty and a 30-day money-back guarantee; the exact term for this model is not published.

Is it worth it?

Soundcore’s own store lists the Motion+ at $119.98 (Soundcore, 2026). Around $100 or less it is strong value: aptX, AUX-in, multipoint, IPX7 and stereo pairing are a lot for the money. At the roughly $120 list price it is only fair-to-good, because the newer Motion 300, X500 and X600 add Bluetooth 5.3, and the X500 and X600 add LDAC and upward-firing designs. Above about $130 the value drops, given the age, the missing dust rating, no AAC and no fast charging. SoundGuys reports a $139 launch price and frequent sales near $100.
