Summary
The Soundcore Q30 is a budget over-ear Bluetooth headphone with hybrid noise cancelling, multipoint and a hard case, and it is the value pick under $100. Check two things before buying: the sound out of the box is heavily bass-boosted and needs the app’s custom EQ, and there is no water resistance, so it is not a gym headphone.
Strengths
- Measured battery life beats the 40-hour ANC spec, at roughly 44 to 46.5 hours.
- Effective noise cancelling for the price, with Transport the most useful mode.
- Bluetooth multipoint, NFC and Google Fast Pair at a sub-$100 price.
- The custom 8-band EQ can turn the bass-heavy default tuning into something close to balanced.
- Hard-shell case, USB-C fast charging and wired 3.5 mm listening are all included.
- Memory-foam protein-leather earcups suit long sessions at about 260 g.
Weaknesses
- The default “Soundcore Signature” tuning is heavily bass-boosted and boomy.
- The stock EQ presets barely change the sound; only the custom EQ meaningfully helps.
- No IP rating, so sweat and rain are out.
- No hi-res Bluetooth codecs, only SBC and AAC, and no wear detection.
- The build is mostly plastic, looks budget and sits bulky on the head.
- The battery is sealed in, and ANC mode switching beyond the NC button is app-only.

Battery and charging
Battery life is the Q30’s strongest point. Soundcore rates 40 hours with ANC on, while its own page also headlines up to 50, and independent testers measured more: SoundGuys got 46 hours 35 minutes and HeadphonesAddict 44 hours 11 minutes with ANC on. A 5-minute charge is good for about 4 hours, and a full charge takes about 2 hours. The battery is sealed in, so a worn cell ends the headphone’s life; Soundcore says removal is a job for professional engineers. Its care advice is to use the headphones at least once a month to avoid over-discharge, and not to run them to empty every time.
Sound out of the box
The default tuning is bass-heavy. SoundGuys measured what it described as an absurd emphasis below 200 Hz, and Expert Reviews found the bass strong enough to make the earcups vibrate on sub-bass tracks. The app’s stock presets, such as Bass Reducer and Flat, barely change the response; the custom 8-band EQ is the part that works, and reviewers say it transforms the tuning. If you want neutral sound without touching an equaliser, this is not the headphone.
Noise cancelling and controls
ANC has three modes: Transport, Outdoor and Indoor. Transport handles engine noise best, while Indoor and Outdoor are weaker. Transparency is triggered by holding a palm over the right earcup for a second or two. Controls are physical buttons, and ANC mode selection beyond cycling the NC button lives in the app. There are no touch controls and no auto-pause. ANC does not work over the 3.5 mm cable, and the supplied cable has no microphone.
Build and upkeep
The frame is plastic cups and yokes under an aluminum headband, with memory-foam protein-leather earcups, at about 260 g. There is no water or dust rating, so keep it out of workouts and rain. One owner notes the plastic can get brittle over time. Wipe the headband and earcups with a cloth, and reset by holding power and volume-up for 5 seconds. There is no repairability program or confirmed spare-parts supply, so treat repairs as limited.
Which model this is
This page covers the Soundcore Q30, marketed as the Anker Soundcore Life Q30, model number A3028, released in September 2020 and sold in Black, Midnight Blue and Sakura Pink. Soundcore is Anker’s audio brand. Don’t confuse it with the Life Q35, which adds LDAC, wear detection and an airplane adapter, or the cheaper Life Q20, which uses micro-USB and drops the case and multipoint. The later Space One and Space Q45 sit above it.
Is it worth it?
At its $79.99 list price the Q30 is strong value, and reviewers place it at the top of the sub-$100 ANC class. Independent reviewers also tested it at £80 and later saw street prices near £44.99, and one owner reported paying $55.99 for the pink version on sale. Below about $60 it is an easy buy. Above $100 it stops making sense, because the Space One and Space Q45 add features in that range. Buy it if you will spend five minutes with the EQ and you don’t need water resistance, LDAC, wear detection or a premium feel.
