Summary

A mid-priced over-ear noise-cancelling headphone with 40mm drivers, Adaptive ANC 3.0, and up to 50 hours of playtime. Check the default sound tuning before you buy: reviewers call it boxy and dull, and the app EQ is almost mandatory.

Strengths

  • Battery life is exceptional: SoundGuys measured 53h 21min with ANC on, exceeding the 50-hour claim.
  • ANC attenuates 84% of outside noise, with the most benefit at low frequencies like jet engines and street rumble.
  • Comfortable for all-day wear with memory foam ear pads and a 264 g weight.
  • Feature set punches above the price: HearID, 8-band EQ, 3D Sound, Safe Volume, Nap Mode, AI translation.
  • Folds compactly and includes a 3.5mm cable for wired listening.
  • Owners on the soundcore product page praise sound quality, battery life, comfort, ANC effectiveness, wearing detection auto-pause, and value for money.

Weaknesses

  • Default sound tuning is criticized as boxy, dull, and bland by multiple reviewers; EQ adjustment is almost mandatory.
  • Build quality feels cheap to PCMag, with primarily plastic construction.
  • Transparency mode has noticeable background hiss.
  • Microphone quality is inconsistent across reviews, with wind as a consistent weak spot.
  • Strong clamping force causes heat buildup after about an hour of wear.
  • No IP rating, no hardshell case, and LDAC connection can be spotty with battery life dropping to about 30 hours in LDAC mode.

Sound quality

Sound is the most divisive feature. PCMag and Trusted Reviews praise the clear, mature, spacious sound with deep bass and good instrument separation. What Hi-Fi? calls the headphones “rather bland performers” with “flattened dynamics” and “dispiritingly mechanical” sound. SoundGuys describes the default tuning as “boxy out of the box” that “lacks presence and clarity, giving everything a dull, closed-in quality.” TechRadar notes treble is “fantastic and sparkly” but mids have a “distinct drop-off” and bass is “indistinct and unbalanced.”

The disagreement may reflect subjective preference, unit variation, or different source material and EQ settings. The app’s 8-band EQ (100Hz–12.8kHz) and HearID can reshape the sound, but out of the box the tuning is polarizing. If you are sensitive to midrange presence or bass definition, try them before committing.

Noise cancellation

ANC is the most consistently praised feature. SoundGuys measured 84% attenuation, most effective at low frequencies. TechRadar called it “absolutely fantastic” for the price. PCMag found it close to the Nothing CMF Pro. RTINGS noted it attenuates jet engine rumble and busy street noise well. What Hi-Fi? called it “competently realized” for the price.

The 4-stage system is specifically optimized for low-frequency noise like jet engines and environmental rumble. There is no wind noise reduction mode, unlike the Space 2 Pro. No review compared it directly against Sony or Bose flagships in a controlled test.

Battery life and charging

Battery life is a clear strength. SoundGuys measured 53h 21min with ANC on in their standardized test, exceeding the 50-hour claim. Trusted Reviews measured about 30 hours in LDAC mode at 50% volume, well below the claim. The discrepancy is explained by codec choice: LDAC draws more power, and soundcore states battery life is approximately 10 hours shorter in LDAC mode.

A full charge takes about 2 hours. A 5-minute fast charge gives 4 hours of playback. The 50-hour claim is based on soundcore lab conditions with wearing detection off and continuous audio playback at 50% volume; actual playtime varies by volume, audio source, and usage habits.

Comfort and build

Comfort is generally praised, with memory foam padding and a 264 g weight. However, SoundGuys notes strong clamping force causes heat buildup after about an hour. The design folds compactly but only includes a cloth pouch, no hardshell case. PCMag says the build “feels a bit cheap,” with primarily plastic construction and a metal frame underneath. Protein leather ear cushions with slow-rebound memory foam are standard.

Calls, transparency, and wired mode

Call quality is a consistent weak spot. PCMag describes voice as “a bit thin and unclear” and “a little tinny.” What Hi-Fi? says voices can sound “a touch robotic and mechanical.” RTINGS notes the integrated microphone doesn’t render voice in a particularly natural way. Wind is a universal weak spot across all reviews.

Transparency mode has noticeable background hiss and doesn’t reproduce high frequencies well. In AUX wired mode, the MFB and volume buttons are non-functional, phone calls are not supported, and the headphones auto-power-off when the cable is disconnected. Bluetooth turns off when wired via 3.5mm.

Is it worth it?

At $100 or below, the Space 2 offers strong value: 40mm drivers, Adaptive ANC 3.0, 50+ hour battery, LDAC, multipoint, and a feature set that punches above its price. The main tradeoffs are default sound tuning that requires EQ adjustment and build quality that feels cheap.

At $129.99 MSRP, the value proposition weakens. Nothing’s CMF Pro offers better build quality and ANC for $30 less and remains PCMag’s Editors’ Choice. The Sony WH-CH720N is noted as a better-sounding alternative for less. The Space One Pro is a step above in sound, ANC, and comfort at a similar price. The Space 2’s strongest value proposition is at sub-$100 sale prices, where its battery life, ANC, and feature set are hard to beat.
