Summary
An 11.45-inch matte LCD Android tablet for reading PDFs, ebooks, comics and notes that also handles casual video and browsing, sold either tablet-only or as a Set with the T-Pen stylus and flip case. Check two things before buying: which bundle you are actually paying for, and the current US security-patch level, because some US units were still on a July 5, 2025 patch in June 2026.
Strengths
- The matte 3:2 panel cuts glare and fingerprints and suits documents better than a glossy 16:9 screen.
- The metal body and clicky buttons feel more expensive than the price suggests (Android Authority).
- Color, Color Paper and Ink Paper modes switch from a single hardware key.
- The Set includes the T-Pen and flip case for the kit price.
- Four speakers are fine for streaming, and handwriting recognition works well in supported note apps.
- Genuine accessories list correct-model compatibility: the T-Pen 2 at $39.99 and the Bluetooth keyboard at $59.99 from TCL.
Weaknesses
- US security patches lag: owners reported a July 5, 2025 patch in June 2026, while a European owner got a newer build.
- The Helio G100 is modest, so heavy games and demanding apps lag.
- No microSD, LTE or 5G, 3.5 mm headphone jack or fingerprint reader.
- Palm rejection is inconsistent across note apps, and some users see hand marks in Keep, OneNote and Goodnotes.
- Some owners report crashes in drawing and note apps and unreliable charging that may or may not be the tablet.
- Standby drain varies widely, from under 20% in nearly a week to 50% or more in one week.

Full research notes and sources
The screen: matte, not E Ink
The main draw is the NXTPAPER 4.0 panel: a nano-etched matte LCD that scatters reflections and hides fingerprints. It remains a backlit LCD, so the black-and-white Ink Paper mode does not give you an e-reader’s static-display power saving or its readability in bright direct sunlight. In Android Authority’s three-week test it showed low glare, fewer fingerprints and a pleasing 3:2 shape for documents, with some off-axis dimming and diffuse color; Android Central treated NXTPAPER 4.0 as a real improvement in comfort. These are subjective eye-comfort experiences, not a medical treatment.
Software updates and security
The clearest risk is the update record. In a June 20, 2026 thread a US owner said the latest build on their tablet was 8.0.1RCY with an Android security patch of July 5, 2025, and another US owner confirmed the same build; a separate June 2026 thread found one more US unit still showing the July 2025 patch. Over the same period a Western Europe owner received build 8.0.1RFO, which one user said improved T-Pen behavior. Availability clearly differs by region, so do not assume the European build reached the US. Verify the patch on the unit and ask TCL in writing for its update timetable before using it for banking or work.
Performance and battery
The Helio G100 is fine for notes, reading, browsing and short games, but heavy titles need lower settings; Android Authority ran a mobile shooter at around 40fps at reduced graphics, and PCMag’s review called the platform sluggish. In Android Authority’s three-week use the tablet lost about 20% of battery per hour of heavy gaming or video, for roughly five hours of heavy use, and under 20% in nearly a week idle, while PCMag’s test ran about 6h 4m. A July 2026 owner reported losing 50% or more in a week of standby, so do not read the 8,000mAh cell as a promise of all-day screen time. Charging reports also vary: one January 2026 owner had data-cable disconnections and slow charging, and a March 2026 buyer saw a 6–9h estimate on an 80W phone charger during USB data transfer. Test a known-good USB-PD charger and the factory cable before assuming the port is faulty.
Pen, notes and accessories
The Set pairs the tablet with a T-Pen and flip case; a tablet-only order should not be assumed to include a stylus just because review samples did. The separately sold T-Pen 2 lists NXTPAPER 11 Plus compatibility, 4,096 pressure levels, interchangeable soft and hard nibs and about 112 hours of use per charge, and it charges over USB-C rather than from the tablet. Handwriting is a mixed bag: December 2025 users reported stray hand marks in Keep, OneNote and Goodnotes while others found OneNote and Xodo fine, an early 2026 owner had unresponsive pen behavior, and a later European update owner saw recognition improve. Try your intended note app within the return window. Accessories are optional add-ons, not annual costs.
Is it worth it?
For a tablet-only 8GB/256GB unit, around $200–$225 is good value for the matte 120Hz screen, $230–$255 is conditional once you check Set pricing, and $260 or more is hard to justify against the pen-and-case Set. The Set itself is attractive around $250–$280 for reading and note-taking despite the patch risk, and weak at $320 or more next to better-supported tablets. TCL’s tablet-only page indexed $219.99 against a $279.99 list, while the Set page showed $279.99 against a $349.99 comparison; treat those as snapshots and confirm the cart total and bundle contents. At TCL, the T-Pen 2 is $39.99 and the dedicated keyboard is $59.99, so adding a pen to a bare tablet gets close to the Set price. If update support matters more, the TCL NXTPAPER 11 Gen 2 Set is $209.99, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A11+ 128GB Wi-Fi is $299.99, and Lenovo’s Idea Tab Plus ZAG71084US is $339.99.
Which model this is
This page covers the NXTPAPER 11 Plus in 8GB/256GB, sold tablet-only or as the Set with product code 9469X2 (tablet, T-Pen and flip case). It is a distinct model from the NXTPAPER 11 Gen 2, the older NXTPAPER 11, the NXTPAPER 14 and the Note A1, so do not cross-buy cases or pens on the “11” name alone. The keyboard is sold separately and is compatible with the NXTPAPER 11 Plus only.
